Sega Genesis/MegaDrive Appreciation Thread: Alien Storm > Golden Axe

The Real Abed

Could just be rose colored glasses, but I swear the LCDs are worse now than they were before.

In either case though, I still love my Nomad.
I think it might be worn out from age and disuse from being in a box for 5 years. I remember being able to actually play games on it. Now I can't tell where enemies are until they're right on top of me. But that might just be Sonic.

They likely need to be recapped. My friends nomad I checked out recently looked awful. No way it looked like that when it came out.

I've been lurking in this thread for ages and always enjoy when folks share photos of their collections, so figured I'd contribute.

There are still quite a few titles I'd like to add, especially Ristar and Dynamite Headdy, but I'm happy with how it's shaping up.

And Sega CD/32X:

Haha, real subtle with the ones you've turned sideways, so we know you have the expensive shit. I'll make sure to do the same thing with my boxed copy of Ristar.

eh lotsa people put the jewels on display; sometimes for the fuck of it, sometimes cause it fills a shelf out better. i can't knock the hustle.

yeah, i was gonna ask too - they look like those box protectors folks in the SNES thread use, didn't even think of them here but they look like they fit the 32x/etc stuff pretty well

There does seem to be a pile of garbage in the lower right of the last pic though. Run out of room in the trashcan? :3

Also fuck you doom box for having a flipped 32X logo.

Hehe, those gif responses crack me up.

The games in cardboard boxes are in box protectors from retroprotection.com. They fit perfectly, so I highly recommend them.

For anyone curious, I got that copy of Sonic signed during a visit to Prope's offices in Tokyo, where I also played Let's Tap with Naka. It was one of the most surreal days of my career.

I think he dropped the whole subtlety angle when he decided to post the collection in this thread just for shits and giggles.

So many wonderful sights to see. God, you even have Hagane CIB up top there. This was totally a stealth brag post (that's totally ok)

Funny story about that Hagane. When I worked at Nintendo between 2002 and 2007, the company held these annual employee "garage sales," where they would sell a bunch of old games that must have come from the warehouse, in-house libraries, etc. This was before I really considered myself a collector, but everything was typically a buck or two at most, so I'd pick up a bunch of loose cartridges for good games I was missing--Contra III, Super Metroid, etc. Then one year, for some unknown reason, I randomly decided to buy this CIB game I'd never heard of called Hagane. I guess I must have thought the screenshots on the back of the box looked cool or whatever. I never really thought about it again until this past January, when I saw a thread pointing to that pricecharting website. I decided to look up all of my stuff for the hell of it, and was more than a little shocked to discover what Hagane was worth.

A co-worker of mine picked up the SNES Exertainment/Speed Racer cart at one of those sales, too. I helped him sell it on eBay a couple of months ago for $900. I wish I could go back in time and just buy everything at those garage sales....

No Shining Force CD? This collection sucks

Fine... No Vay, this collection sucks! And no Robo Aleste either!

(I take solace in the fact I have Vay, Lunar, Lunar 2, SF CD and a few other ones which aren't worth much anyway :p)

Seriously, very nice collection, very tidy and well made.

It's kind of difficult here to have my GF accept all my games in the house, so all of them (all the CD based ones, the DS ones and the GBA ones anyway) are in storage somewhere...

My poor games :(

Yeah, I really want to pick up Vay, Robo Aleste, and Final Fight CD. And maybe Lords of Thunder. And Time Gal....

It never ends!

Final Fight CD is legit. That's one you need. Shame it's one of those in the cardboard boxes, though.

Get Wings of Thunder for PCE instead.

The SCD port is garbage.

FF CD is legit, I know, I own it :p It's also prety cheap. Be quick for Robo Aleste, it's shooting up in price.

I dont know if i agree with that talk. Also, it doesn't shock me Robo is finally going up. Why buy MUSHA for 300-400 when you could buy Robo for a fraction of the price, and get a better game in the series?

I assume you mean Winds of Thunder?

Yes, I was listening to Wings of Change on the radio and that screwed up my writing :p

I own both, the SCD version is terrible compared to the far superior PCE original

As a bonus, the PCE version is cheaper.

Currently which is the most accurate Sega Megadrive/Genesis/SegaCD/32x emulator available? While for SNES there are the 3 major emulators (Bsnes, Snes9x and Zsnes) and for NES there is a multitude of very good emulators, there is a confusion regarding Genesis emulators.

Currently I am between those two, regarding Sega Mega Drive:

Genesis Plus GX (Retroarch)
Gens r7

I also consider Regen to be nice but it hasnt been updated for years
Same for Kega Fusion

Exodus is also cycle accurate but very demanding

Of those only Genesis Plus GX is updated regularly but I am not sure if Gens r7 does feature better emulation.

For SegaCD and 32x which is the most accurate emulator?

Good to know. I don't have a TurboDuo/PC Engine yet, but I do plan to get one eventually.

Genesis Plus GX is pretty much flawless for Gen/SMS/GG/SCD. For 32x, Kega Fusion has the best emulation. In RetroArch the only core that supports 32x so far is Picodrive, which has some issues, but isn't too bad.

Stating why it's better would be a fair bit more convincing than merely continually asserting it is and leaving it at that.

Everything is worse. Difficulty, graphics, sound, animations, gameplay, everything is just so much worse.

I have no idea why the game was butchered in such a way, the SCD is beyond able to handle a game like Winds of Thunder but... I don't know what to tell you.

If you don't have a PCE-CD, then I guess the SCD version is fine, otherwise, if you own both, just avoid it.

Especially at its ridiculous pricepoint.

I got mine early, so last i knew, it was like 40 bucks complete, and i got it at about 20. The Sega uptick is scary.
