^goddamn, some of those Outpost EGM scans are taking me back, phew

homestretch of book 3 of Shining Force CD, which hasn't been easy but man that final fight of book 2 got rough!

You just have to play it. I'm not sure if there are any external tells.

yup, ive picked up a few cheap copies - the junkyard is like, level 4 or 5 or something? haven't lucked out yet, but asking sellers to check is funny...they act like it's a chore to play a masterpiece like that!

Trying to finally play through E-Swat. The level where you have to fly everywhere is really testing my will to continue. That's only like half way through the game too, damn.

wait, the unlimited fuel level? what's got you down, is it the platforms over the lava-y stuff?

any ballpark on the next full ep, stewy?

Glad you're enjoying them, IrishNinja.

Right now I am not happy about not having access to issue #10 (May 1990 - NES Super C cover) and issue #13 (August 1990 - Genesis Strider cover). They both contain things I want to share on GAF.

Guys...I just realized something...I never played E-Swat. Time to fix that this year for arcade, Sega Genesis and Sega Master System.

oh man E-swat was one of my favorite arcade games.
all the team shinobi related stuff. crackdown, altered beast... system 16 baby!

arcade starts out slow until you get that armor.

the genesis game had so much more content and aged better.

I royally screwed something up and skipped some games. Thus, I've had to kind of restart Episode 17.

On the up side, the wait for episode 18 should be relatively short :)

ohh man that sucks (hope it wasn't mahjong stuff, haha) but at least that last bit's reassuring!

Hey guys, I could get a complete copy of El Viento (JP) for 100 euros/109 USD. Conditions seem genuinely near mint. I didn't plan to buy it now - there's plenty of stuff I'd like to play first - but this looks like one of those deals you shouldn't miss. I'm a bit conflicted. Suggestions?

If I get good enough at the game after trying it many times I will do a youtube playthrough on it...then again I should do a playthrough on it regardless since it's a classic.

So is there a way to tell if a Revenge cart is one of the initial copies with all the ripped-off characters in the game?

You can at least tell a v1.0 or v.1.01 apart from a sega classics v1.02+ with the info on the back of the cart. Sega added patent info added to the back of cartridges at some point, early prints of revenge will have just the three caution bullet points.

The whole level. I did get a better feel for the flying mechanic today and took my time a little more and used gravity/no fuel to drop lower when needed. Finally beat that level but then the next level slaughtered me. Tough game.

yeah, its easy when you learn it (like any game, i guess) but each new level would mess me up a bit. the last one that still gives me issues is the sewer-y level towards the end, the snake boss isn't super hard but fuck he does damage if you're not ready

I ended up beating that sewer level. I somehow managed to beat the boss in one try. Game has it's hooks back in me, inching closer to the finish line. The part that pisses me off is the 4th level purple ooze where you get raised up and three of the little shits jump repeatedly. I almost always die there unless I get there with full health. Gotta figure out a pattern on it.

Loves Robotech S1
so i'm looking at a copy of sorcerian md right now. i've only had a bit of experience with the game on pcengine but i thought it was pretty interesting. how do people feel about this particular version? are the new scenarios worthwhile?

oh yeah, that's a bitch - i used the charge shot gun to kill em easier most times but it does take work

pro tip for the last guy, when you get there!
if you wanna cheese him, hover up top/right and just toss missiles, he'll eventually bite it but only after unleashing some flame bullshit that hits you even up there

still one of my favorite ending themes, too

I just received an e-mail from Super Fighter Team

MAGIC GIRL and CASCADE for Sega Genesis & Mega Drive are now available for immediate shipping.

Both games began shipping to pre-order customers on Christmas Eve, and are still in stock and available for purchase. For more information please visit their respective websites...

http://www.magicgirlgame.com/
http://www.playcascade.com/

I didn't like the shmup (way too easy / boring) but could be nice for a smaller child. I don't know about the puzzle game.

I ended up beating the game today on my second attempt. Had to use a continue on the last level and ended up cheesing the last boss. That elevator section is brutal.

In the end, I dropped El Viento (mainly due to a dodgy seller who tried to raise the price way too much) and got a nice import bundle from another store... Nothing as rare or huge as EV, but I'm going to add to my collection a couple of nice titles I was looking for anyway: Dynamite Headdy and Sonic the Hedgehog for the Mega Drive (both complete and in beautiful conditions), and Dennin Aleste for the Mega CD (Musha is one of my favourite vertical shmups on the system, so I'm really looking forward to play DA too).

Any of you guys is using a Saitek Megapad for the Genesis/Mega Drive? I'm looking for a second 6 buttons controller, and I've been told Saitek ones are quite good but... Other than that I'm pretty much clueless. There's a store with the Megapad IX and X in stock, and the seller told me that model X has microswitches. Is it good? Any suggestion?

Also, sorry for the shameless repost, but I'm still looking for informations on these all-in-one power supplies for the Mega Drive 2 + Mega CD 2. Would there be any negative to replace my two power supplies (plus two stepdown converters) with one of those?

Thanks in advance. ^_-

With two independent power supplies, you can warm both your feet simultaneously.
Damn. XD

Re-played a bit of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure. It was a game I had as a kid and I remember thinking it was pretty good. I only beat it once though. I guess I wanted it because the cartridge was everywhere (this was around 95 or 96) and I kept thinking it had a cool concept.

I played the 32X version first and it looks a lot better than the Genesis but the frame-rate wasn't great, the screen seemed a little too zoomed in, and the hit-detection was less generous. If you come anywhere near an enemy in the 32X version you will take a hit. Whereas in the Genesis version, you have to practically run right into them to take a hit.

After getting to the 2nd level I couldn't take the frame rate anymore and started playing the Genesis version again. It doesn't look as good but the frame rate and controls are significantly better.

Downloaded a bunch of random Genesis roms. I saw one called Hercules. I thought it was the bootleg based on the PSX Disney licensed game that was briefly reviewed by Jontron. I loaded it up and it turns out it was an entirely different game called Dahna Megami Tenjo.

256px-Dahna_Megami_Tanj%C5%8D_(box_art).jpg

A Japanese-only action/platformer that I never heard of before and I don't think anyone here is aware of it (maybe). I tried it and got maybe half way into it so far. The biggest problem it has is that the hit-detection with your weapon is a little suspect. It feels like you just hammer away and hope they get hit. But the health is pretty generous and you can get used to it.

It has a lot of interesting set pieces. First level has you riding an Orgre and easily killing soliders:

This thing is a boss:

And there's a shmup level:

Apologies for the screenshots, I tried to take a couple in Fusion but I screwed up.

All of this happens in the first 15-20 minutes of the game...

I'm really digging it and am going to try to beat it by tomorrow. I'm not suggesting it's a lost masterpiece or anything but it's a fun little imperfect game that has a lot of ideas and ambition.

Damn. XD

I've used an all in one power supply for awhile now. Cleans up the clutter and works fine. I believe mine is called the retro DC power adapter from a dude in Israel.

Currently use it for genesis + 32x and nes hooked up at the same time.

I completed the Snes version of this, and from what I remember, the game was pretty boring, with huge levels that had no sense of direction to them, and just felt randomly put together, and lots of places that simply looked the same. Dont know how that stacks up to the genesis-version thouh.

Thanks guys. I found out a couple of video reviews on YT and they seem pretty safe, in terms of reliability. I was a bit worried by the fact these power supplies could harm/damage my NTSC consoles, since they don't even need a stepdown converter, but the manufacturer himself told me it's a different technology, using 'switching power supplies, as they are lightier, less expensive, regulated and take less place'. I'll get one myself too.

Yep, I read about the 32X Pitfall being strangely pretty terrible, compared to the original game on the Mega Drive. I think I'll get the SEGA CD version, once I'll be able to run imports on my Japanese Mega CD, since it's basically the Mega Drive game with a much higher quality soundtrack.

It's not a masterpiece by any means, but I have it in my collection too and - as someone who loves Rastan, Golden Axe and in general all those classic 'barbarian' games - even Dahna managed to hit that spot.
It's also one of those games I remember buying dirt cheap a few years ago, that now float in the 100 euros danger zone, in CIB conditions.

You have way more cred then i do. I've tried playing Pit-Fighter so many times, and every time its the 3rd fight and i'm out.

It's not really that hard of a game. I used to be able to 1 cc it back in high school.

Mostly you have to be sure to use the weapons/items, especially the power pills. Also a lot of it is cheesing the special attacks, Ty's spin kick in particular has a lot of range and is a auto knockdown, where you can get another couple of hits.

Just beat Dahna. It's not great but it's not truly bad either. I guess I have a soft spot for imperfect games that have a great concept.

If the combat was greatly refined (more clearly defined hitboxes, being able to move a little faster after attacking, enemies being locked into place by hitstun rather than being able to attack immediately after getting hit) and the health was a little more generous. Then it would have been a great little game.

I think I lucked out in that the Hercules version has infinite continues. I read that the original Japanese version has 5 continues and that's it.

Got this in the mail today. Made it to the second to last match, not bad for not playing the game for 20 years.

image_zpse4yjqkr4.jpeg

oh nice game, i remember wasting quarters on this in the arcades until some showed me the technique to beat it in a quarter (no cheats or glitches) using Ty.

Ha, just like the SNES version, where Ty is the only way to beat the game easily(and still not easy to do but doable).

Yes, I beaten the crappy SNES version.

Got Forgotten Worlds in the mail - can't play it though because the cheapy repro system I have has 6 button controllers and apparently that makes the game crash. Ugh.

If anyone is interested, I am giving away some Genesis games bundles on Steam (pack #1 and pack #5) in the Steam giveaways thread. Pack #1 includes Ecco, Shadow Dancer, Shinobi III and Vectorman, among others, and pack #5 has the Phantasy Star games, Beyond Oasis, Streets of Rage 3, Vectorman 2 and Wonder Boy in Monster World.

I'm sure most people here have already played all that, but just in case... ^^
