SEGA looking into re-releasing Shemue & Shenmue II

Here's the full article: “Sega was an innovator, the Dreamcast was offering online gaming as early as 1998. But perhaps back then we were pushing boundaries a little too soon.

It's only logical to push boundaries with a team like this. So much talent at one place...
And so much managerial mistakes over the years.

Well it would be nice. While I remember really loving the games, I can't remember much about them bar the forklifts in the first one and Joy in the second. My Dreamcast breaking prevented me from ever playing them.

Wasnt it like Blitworks that said they had most of the work already done? We need to get this shit in gear, i want to see what all the hype is about

Great picture.
Except that part of the pic where Peter Moore stands...

Most of those legends
(and I don't mean Peter Moore! :D )
are not in SEGA anymore. Wonder why they don't have balance now then...

I think you're discounting how many of us fans love BOTH.

Yakuza and Shenmue are both amazing series and neither should be ignored for the other.

They're also very, very different from each other, and posts like his should warrant a slap at this point.

The picture is from the first E3, after SEGA exit console hardware business. Also, back then, Toshihiro Nagoshi looked like normal human.
He's not human any more.

I'd want the saves to be able to transfer from 1 -> 2-> 3
Maybe I'll wait to see if there's a version that does that.

I said it before but - how is this not the most obvious thing in the world?

Sega will re-release Shenmue 1 and 2 in some form, at the very least for PC and PS4 due to the huge success of the Kickstarter and Sega seeing the money signs.

The only reason nothing has been said or shown so far is most likely because they have been caught a bit off guard and are working on it.

I don't want to sound harsh but I think some of the backers who have never played the originals might be in for a rude awakening when they go back and play these unless they properly contextualize themselves and really go in knowing what to expect. Even then, the games were always pretty divisive. I'd be interested to see what new players think regardless.

Just now? I figured right after E3 they would have announced an HD collection of 1 & 2. Oh well, better late than never I guess.

How difficult do you guys reckon this port would be? DC codebase and documentation in Japanese, if even available. Maybe using the Xbox version would help, but we need Bluepoint to polish this baby from the ground up.

Look into it a little harder this time by getting new, better, less lazy shit lawyers that hopefully won't shrug their shoulders at things like "dunno who owns that tech license so... uh I dunno, cancel the HD re-release?"

I'm aware that it was a flop, but the idea is still the same: give people that might not have played the games a chance to do so. Shenmue on a handheld would certainly help resurrect the franchise's profile in Japan.

It's also worth noting that Vita enthusiasts buy virtually with a Vita version on their Vitas. Our attach rates are enormous. People with Wii Us usually also have other consoles and there's little reason to buy the Wii U copy over another console they also own. A Wii U version, unfortunately, is just another console release.

But there is only one way to make a handheld version of Shenmue.

Eh, I'll believe it when I see it actually happen. Sega does a lot of promising and bring us a lot of disappointment instead.

I played the first one om the emulator for like half an hour and thought the controlls were horrible. hopefully they change some of the controls for the better in the remasters.

I've been wanting it for a long time, and I know i'm not alone. Honestly, I think I would rather have a re-release of the first two rather than Shenmue III. I just don't have the highest of hopes that they'll be able to deliver in a way that I find satisfying.

I can picture someone now, frantically searching through an old basement in Shinbashi for the "Shenmue Source Code - DO NOT OVERWRITE" floppy disk.

We'll see.

The entire lines don't match up, so it must be updated - including the remasters bit.

Updated or doctored? This is confusing. Unless we don't see the full actual article at Marketing Week's site, this is doubtful.

I registered to that site, but when you try to login, it is showing constant errors. Therefore, all must hold their horses; this could be fake.

I would have thought that they had plans for this months ago when the Kickstarter broke records. Man are they gonna be LTTP.

I squinted skeptically when I spotted the title, but still got mildly excited there for a while.

But yeah, of course it's a TSSZ News post (which appears to have gotten removed) claiming to be citing a two week old MarketingWeek article no one can access, in which a marketing director supposedly blurted out this careless statement.

edit
Well there you go.^^

I know shenmue fans wont like this but this is a terrible move for the shenmue franchise going forward. This will kill the mystique that has developed around these games. This isnt the kind of game that has aged well and I predict new players will wonder wtf this vocal internet community has been on about.

They might think the same thing when Shenmue 3 is released.

Good. I feel many ppl, especially the ones who haven't played the original games and jumped on the Shenmue 3 hype bandwagon, are in need of a reality check.
