Sega PC ports campaign continues with petition (Vanquish, Bayonetta, VF5)

Hey guys, earlier today I was given three Valkyria codes to distribute as I saw fit by SEGA. The first I gave out was to a campaign supporter I knew, he had recently been laid off from his position. After that I decided to do something a bit different and I hope it's ok with everybody here; I'm going to give out the other two codes on here but I want them to go to people who are unemployed/underemployed, maybe a superfluous (in the grand scheme of things) game purchase isn't in their budget? Especially if they are trying to shoehorn holiday purchases into their budget for the season.

This will be done on the honor system and I request that you not screw your fellow gamers out of this, because the system will be easy to cheat unfortunately. To get the code I want to know two things, 1. You signed the petition (if you haven't you can still do so), 2. You lost your job or are underemployed or something along those lines.

If you aren't comfortable discussing the matter publicly feel free to PM me. Hope nobody takes issue with this method of distribution.

As someone whose had some money problems for a long while I find this awesome. :D

If people are willing to do that that's pretty cool, but that seems sort of like a privacy issue to me. The type of person who might be able to enjoy that most might also be the type of person who doesn't feel comfortable sharing their unemployment status with the internet. It's a nice good will gesture, but feels like it might be asking people a bit much if they want a chance to participate.

At the very least, ask the person if they're willing to have their name attached to it for the "And the keys went to 'x' and 'y'!" portion

Good luck and be honest, folks :)

Really cool if Sega to provide codes. Any other words from HQ regarding the port progress or nothing that can be said publicly?

I'm probably not going to discuss who gets the keys. Especially if I'm PM'd about it. At this point I don't think many gaffers have many reasons to doubt my honesty as regards this campaign, especially over something like a key giveaway of all things. I do agree that some may be sensitive about their current employment status, hence why I offered PM.

edit: also if I don't hear from anybody for say, 24 hours, I'll probably just allocate the codes to some type of raffle system, as is usually done. I thought I'd take a stab at something a bit different given the holiday season and the less than spectacular economy in some areas.

Really cool of you to do this, much respect. This reminds me of all the extra game codes I have laying around from bundles that I need to give away.

Thanks :) I thought it'd be a nice gesture, codes were free for me and it being the holidays it just sort of felt right. With that, all codes are claimed folks.

Hope our fellow friends, campaign supporters and new owners of Valkyria Chronicles on PC find some enjoyment in the release! Also thanks for the codes SEGA!

I'd put my hand up, but I'm far from being unemployed or on hard times in the slightest... so congratulations to whomever here gets lucky!

That was a cool way to do a giveaway.

It's all still very exciting. I hope this does really well for Sega and the people who pushed for this internally are recognized and congratulated, because Valkyria Chronicles is just perfect for PC as a platform and it fits with Sega's approach to PC. I personally hope Vanquish and Yakuza are the next things to be looked at. They seem like really great fits for various reasons.

This is a great gesture. Hope none tries to abuse it.

It's a nice idea, I hope Gaf kept honest about it and some people who could enjoy it most get the games. Glad to see the game getting played by more people!

Seems that Miles from Sports Interactive has been on the port train for a long time:

Being Football Manager one of SEGA strongholds on PC, it's a nice support.

Hahahahaha, that must be buttery fucking smooth. I'm running it downsampled from 3840x2160, but my TV and Monitor are only 60hz. Gorgeous looking.

Really happy that the game is doing well, haven't put much time in myself, but I am definitely enjoying the game again. And anything that puts me closer to Skies of Arcadia HD on PC, is a good thing.

I've been working on getting it working in 3D (to no avail unfortunately) so I've been viewing it recently at 60hz, but when I am playing downsampled at 120fps, my god. It is buttery smooth.

I have a lot of hope that some classic titles would make it to PC. I don't know if I'd bet on it, but rest assured that I'd throw money at the ports. Yakuza, Panzer, Vanquish, etc should they happen. Hope it pans out.

I'd take Orta over Virtua Fighter 5 purely because Orta is stuck on a older console that still looks no closer to being emulated. I love both series equally though.

I think I may be the only poor bastard signing this thing in the hopes that they randomly decide to port Sonic 06. The game was made with the intention of celebrating all the best that was and what could be for the franchise in its 15th year, and instead ended up representing everything wrong with Sega. Extremely rushed to market, Yuji Naka departing Sega, half the dev team split off to make Secret Rings, complete disregard of the QA process, etc. Sonic 06 is a tragic monster that I feel could find some redemption on the PC through fan made patches, mods, etc.

Certainly the game doesn't deserve a port over the other titles currently under discussion (Vanquish, Bayonetta, VF5, etc), but I feel it should get a second chance some day.

I think this is the first "I'm the only one" post that is actually accurate on the history of the internet.

Actually I'd be interested in Sonic 2006 if it got put on Steam as long as they remove the loading times, and then the fans can fix the remaining BS/mod it.

Well a PC build of Sonic 06 existed. I hears that due to bad reviews and reception and the fact that Sega didn't have time, they decided to cancel the release.

Honestly I rather have Sonic Unleashed on PC. A PC build also existed of that and I would love to play that game in true HD

There is a mod that puts the non-werehog levels into Sonic Generations. It's a little bit janky in some spots, but still a lot of fun.

I hope this is them gathering a budget for more PC ports of things.

Also, this is an insanely good deal. One dollar gets you Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, NiGHTS, and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Crazy.

Console and PC gamers should make a common effort to get Puyo Puyo to the west and on PC. Puyo Puyo Tetris looks awesome. :(

If there are licensing issues regarding Tetris, they could cut that part out of the game and still have a great game on their hands.

Broke 14k. Also I'd love to see puyo come west again. There have been previous entries on PC, so PC releases in the franchises don't seem out of the question -- though little does after valkyria chronicles.

Sorry to bump the thread, but I find it funny that since this movement to get Sega to bring Virtua Fighter (a 3D fighter) to PC started, Namco and Tecmo have actually stepped up and are bringing Tekken and DOA to PC for the first time. Whoops.

I agree, I'll be buying DoA 5 myself. Would love to see SEGA port over VF though it won't be the monopoly it would have been before.

It was a good opportunity to expand the fanbase, it's not as favorable as it was previously but it's still a good opportunity.

Tekken on PC is news to me.

Yeah its kind of a shame as I wanted Virtua Fighter to have the market to itself as it needs the boost in visibility. It'll be overshadowed now by Dead or Alive and its billions of bikini packs.
