I feel like, for the first time in a long time, I need to go out and buy Wonderful 101, because if I don't, these games are going to go away.
Sounds like you should buy Project Diva F...

RGG5? I bought and played it, too. But I'm sick of the whiners. The series sells like shit outside Japan, face facts.
Does SMT/Persona sell more than Yakuza in the west?

It's easy for you to be sick of the whiners when you got to play it.
Saying Nintendo doesn't understand cross-media is idiocy, but saying Nintendo specifically doesn't understand cross-media needed to promote a brand like Persona is a lot more defendable.
no more persona games in the west ?
can't take it T_T

Doesn't matter. It's still its own entity that operates solely for handling the Pokemon brand.
Nothing is stopping you from doing the same.
Quite notably so.
It's comparing about 200K to 20K if we take more recent entries.
If there's one thing you don't need to worry about in this transition, it's the continued existence and localization of Persona games.
Does SMT/Persona sell more than Yakuza in the west?
Well, Persona does seem to do sales that wouldn't NEED the system to be a success for it itself to be successful, just look at how P4G motivated many to buy a Vita. Still, it would hold it back and like noted is uprooting the fanbase that wasn't already inclined to own at least all relevant Nintendo/Sony platforms anyway, I may've brought up the Vita but it at least is a natural extension given the Persona PSP ports and the fact the series has been almost a pure Sony exclusive.Yeah, the problem with putting it on the Wii U is that the Wii U is a gigantic failure.
Atlus's cross media experience: 2 Persona animes
Nintendo's cross media experience: a hollywood movie, several cartoons, several animes, toys, shirts, a trading card game, spagetti-os and countless more things.
I don't think "cross media experience" is the problem here.
In the US:
Persona 4 Golden > Yakuza 3 + Yakuza 4 + Yakuza: Dead Souls.
Is this good or not?
Man, megatons everywhere today :O
I just hope Etrian Odyssey sells enough to warrant its existence under the new regime.
I'm reffering to that in regards to: "a pretty successful-and-growing cross-media franchise that Nintendo would have no idea how to capitalize on."
Outside of Pokemon, it could be argued that Nintendo's IPs has branched out alot much more outside of video games? I mean doesn't Nintendo make a lot of money and have a lot of brand recognition with stuff like Merchandising,?
It's about as middle of the road as you can get. Far better than a console manufacturer, but probably worse than some company without a console/handheld game developer or an investment firm. Really, it's just good that Atlus got themselves away from the corrupt mess that was INDEX.
Them not localizing 7th Dragon is pretty humorous in hindsight.Even if they keep making them, Sega's localization record is really discouraging. They didn't localize 7th Dragon or Valkyria Chronicles 3, just to name a couple (roughly) comparable titles.
Yes, I agree.
Can we stop arguing about the wrongheaded idea that Nintendo would've been a good buyer for Index now, please?
Modified that. If we're going to be crazy pessimistic lets at least recognize what's too big to sensibly scrap.Great while it lasted. R.I.P. everything that isn't Persona 5.
other people in various discussions prior said:Sega can't buy Atlas, they don't have the money.
Something I've learned over the years is that enthusiast gamers can too often be militant and hyperbolic when it comes to change. Both Atlus and SEGA have a rich, admirable history of collaborations and partnerships with other developers, pursuing new series' and genres aimed across a wide spectrum of tastes.
We should view this partnership as yet another exciting step in the world of game creation. Who knows what their combined visions will conjure for our favourite franchises, and what surprising sequels we may see!
I wonder if it's too much to hope for Atlus games ending up on PC.
Have you guys though that this might actually be good news for Sega games getting localized? Atlus USA probably has the resources to localize games (staff, experience, distribution channels, etc) which Sega lacks and they could put it into good use.
I cannot think of a single Japanese company that would actually be a better choice to purchase Index. At best Namco, and that's more of a lateral move than anything else.
But Megaten's already on Wii U.I can't see MegaTen on Wii-U
I just hope Etrian Odyssey sells enough to warrant its existence under the new regime.
Guys, I have to reemphasize here that SEGA-Sammy bought Atlus, not Sega.
There is in fact a difference.

This is something I wished people would recognize, but I suspect most of those that don't are fairly loyal to one or the other, at least to the point of throwing logic out the window. I keep attacking the idea of Microsoft buying them, but I think one person actually suggested them in a prior thread.Any platform holder would be bad for part of the fanbase.
Also, I'm scared about Etrian Odyssey, 35k in US really? That was fine by ATLUS but how about SEGA?
It does help, yes, and makes the Hudson scenario seems more likely. But then has Sega themselves ever bought any company or was it always Sega-Sammy being the official buyer?Guys, I have to reemphasize here that SEGA-Sammy bought Atlus, not Sega.
