When fans of the series need to say "the past few games were fairly good", they have reached a new level of cope. While it would be nice for the series to return to its glory, the rest of us live in the real world. Mascot platformers are done for, especially 3rd party ones. So even if there was a new awesome Sonic game, it's unlikely to make waves. Sega would be better off capitalizing on their actual critically acclaimed franchises and throw Sonic fans a bone here and there to show they still care.
 
I swear, Sega has made a dozen of these mega hype announcements in the last 10 years. It's either going to be another new Sonic game, or Mega Drive Mini 3.

That's just how Sega rolls.

No they were actually good. And I've played plenty of platformers (just beat Pac-Man World Re-Pac as a matter of fact, it was pretty good!). The only people coping are the people acting like Sonic isn't in probably the best phase he's been in since the 90s. Successful movies, very strong sales for their 3D pillar title (Frontiers), and just a renewed interest in general. Sonic is in much better shape now than he was from 2001-2013 for sure.

That's not saying much considering Frontiers was supposed to be its Odyssey moment.

Not sure who said its supposed to be its "Odyssey moment"...

What does that even mean anyway? Odyssey is just another amazing 3D Mario game in a string of amazing 3D Mario games. When were there a bunch of mediocre-to-poor 3D Mario games (or fuck Mario games in general) that would make Odyssey some kind of turning point?

Sega has tried to reinvent itself every other year since I can remember with these types of PR and marketing campaigns, it's never anything significant. Probably a collection of HD remaster games or something.

"Odyssey moment" doesn't even mean anything considering its one of the weaker 3D Mario games (although still pretty good) lol. Galaxy 1 and 2 were both infinitely better.
Frontiers was supposed to be a new formula for the series and it did a pretty good job all things considered, its only real issue was the jank (although some of those issues were smoothed out after launch). It also had some of the best post-launch support of any game in recent memory (they added a metric shitload of content to an already decently content-heavy game entirely for free, even a 6-8 hour story add-on). Most of the hate for the recent Sonic games are honestly entirely unfounded, its basically "wahhh it isn't super accessible like Mario so it sucks", Frontiers and Superstars are both good games, Frontiers has its jank and Superstars is just overpriced but otherwise theres really nothing bad about them. Again its mostly people like you who just dismiss them for not being Mario quality which is laughable. Its like saying because some adventure games aren't Breath of the Wild-tier they aren't good at all. They're perfectly good, and that's fine. As long as the sequels continue to improve then its a great starting point for a new type of formula for the series.

Couldn't be. A Japan exclusive arcade release of an old game wouldn't get shown at the game awards. That'd be something for the AOU show if those are still going.

I would really love it if they could give me a Virtua Fighter 6 or a content rich port of Virtua Fighter 4: Final Tuned.

Even worse than that the best version of VF5 is actually VF5R and that was exclusive to Japanese arcades and now probably isn't even available there.

Having never played it makes it hard to be a judge. I do not even know of any way to emulate it or any attempts to. I wonder whether corpse kicking is removed, downed attacks have a shorter window, simplified throw system is implemented, movement is counterhit, and juggles are extra floaty in this version?

Yes they are great games. Sonic Mania, Frontiers and Superstars all have great feedbacks from players (between 8 and 8.5/10 on average).
Don't give this kind of guys attention, they just love hating on the series and have not played the games anyway.

And to go back on topic, because this teasing has absolutely nothing to do with Sonic, the more I think about it, the more I think about a new VF.

I am ready to be disappointed!
 
I wonder if this is that announcement. There's at least a couple projects on the way that fans of old Sega are going to be happy about.

Most of your post is pretty much the 4chan rumor from a year+ ago(it's missing the Jet Set Radio title).

So many people laughed at it because 'lol 4chan' but I posted proof that the website has been right more than once in the past about big stuff 🤷‍♂️

It's the perfect place to tell secrets and leak without leaving much of a trace at all. I also believe the Resident Evil remake rumor but that one is too obvious of a guess for anyone to make. The sega one felt like a deep leak.

If its VF6, please do something completely different. 2D, 3D plane fighting games are so fucking stale. Something like Bushido Blade.
 
That blue outlined text font is similar from Sonic credit fonts… so I'd say it's something about Sonic.

I assume he is talking about BG3, but he not wrong.

Atlus does some solid work in this area and maybe it makes sense to split the team, beef them up and have a Phantasy Star 1 remake or something.
 
Last minute wishes before the show tomorrow:

If its Hardware:
Dreamcast Classic packed with all the good nostalgic hits
Bring back the NeoGeo brand in the form of a Steam Deck like portable with access to various services (Steam, Epic)

If its a New IP:
Just don't release any more GAAS title. Give us a quality new idea

If its an Existing IP:
Bring Back Shining Force and give us a Jrpg version of BG3
Make a modern reboot of Shinobi
