Guys am I crazy of is Sekiro kind of blurry on the PS4 pro? Never really experienced it before so dont know if it's the HDR or I'm just too tired the last two evenings... never been a problem on other games.

I didnt notice that at all.

I dont know if it's really intense motion blur (that you cant turn off on the PS4) or something to do with the HDR. I didn't notice it on the Dark Souls games or any ps4 game really. I'm playing on an OLED.

A quick Google brings up a few results nothing widespread though.

Love the menu music on this one. Downloading now.

That's an awesome theme. Much better than the themes that were available for pre-ordering the game initially. I am only seeing this on the UK PSN? I hope it comes to NA too. That's on par with the Death Stranding theme IMO.

I just bought Sekiro on sale. I’m a big fan of souls games but haven’t played one since Bloodborne as I have zero time to gitgud nowadays.
Did I make a mistake? I’ve heard it’s the most difficult game yet.

It'll be a learning curve for you as a souls player as muscle memory will compel you to play like a souls game but once you get used to the differences and get used to parrying I reckon you'll have a blast. Of all the souls like games, it's closest to Bloodborne so the combat is fast and punishing but once you get used to the parrying system, I think it's not the hardest game from From. DS3, Bloodborne and Demon Souls are all harder imo. The order I played them in was DS1, Demon Souls, DS2, Bloodborne, DS3 then Sekiro.

I par all the way through bloodborne, but never in the bona fide souls games.
Cool, I look forward to giving it a go, will have a read about the mechanics before I start.

I actually never finished DS3. I was a bit tired of the formula at that point as I had played DS2 and nthe remake just before the release. Maybe I can pick that up onsale too.

I couldn't get more than 2 hours in as it was too rough for me. Without summons to help im fucked. Shame as i would have loved this game, From are brilliant devs.

Buying the best game of the year is never a mistake.

Just keep in mind it's not quite "souls" and playing it like a Souls game might make things harder. Parrying and blocking is way more important than evading (the timing is thankfully a lot more forgiving than in the souls games) ,and going for the good ol' souls strategy of trying to circle around the enemies is often going to get you killed.
Also don't forget about the different ninja tools you get (the ones you attach to your arm) as using the right tool for the right fight can make a big difference.

I guess this is issue most Souls player who mostly play online have, they rely too much on summons to help them out. This is why I never play Bloodborne/Souls online, Exploring and fighting the enemies and bosses alone is biggest reason why I play these games in the first place. Same way co-op ruins survival horror playing Bloodborne/Souls online ruins entire experience for me.

It's worth giving DS3 another shot. You should be able to get the Goty version with both DLCs included for a handsome price. I only got playing the DLC for the first time this past week and there's some really great stuff in there, some of the best boss fights and one of the greatest areas.

didn’t get the dlc but the main game was only £9 so I got it for the hell of it. Will give Sekiro a go first.
Ah shit, can you still not pause? Never used to be an issue but not being able to pause ensures I’ll get in some fights with the wife.

Technically there's no pause button but if you just quit out of the game, you load back in exactly where you left off.

You can pause in Sekiro by going in to your own inventory menu.

I get a lot of fun out of summons, helping others and getting help, its not the difficulty that gives me a buzz. Im not very skilled at most games, and I would rather have a helper than stress myself out. Sekiro was beyond me, I dont mind admitting it.

That’s fine everyone have their own way enjoying the game and for me is the excitement of fighting tough bosses but don’t expect every game have help for tough fights.

FROM made this amazing combat for us to master to overcome the encounters, that’s what this game is all about.

I'm of the firm belief that if you can complete any souls game, you can complete Sekiro. It really is all down to understanding the parry mechanic. I figured out that you can basically mash it and get the parry off then riposte for major damage. I was initially afraid of standing in front of a boss but once you get into the mindset, you'll find yourself just going toe to toe and parrying like a magician. It's almost like a rhythm game.

Agreed. I initially thought Sekiro was harder than the other soulsborne games, but the second that parry mechanic clicked (which was after like 40 tries on the butterfly lady boss), the rest of the game was a cakewalk ("cakewalk" is probably a slight exaggeration, but it was pretty smooth sailing from then on out not counting a certain optional boss).

I agree with you but for me the combat clicked with me in Genichiro fight, once you master the parry you kill him with almost full health because his posture is weak compare to later bosses. I think the mini boss before Genichiro was trying to teach you that.

I'm having SOOO MUCH trouble with Owl....
I remember how I didn't have to fight him that many times, but it was enough (like 10 or so?) that by the time I finished, I was looking forward to checking out a new area without having to bang my head against the wall with another boss.

And then it goes immediately to another boss fight. I think one of my very few complaints about the game is how it felt more like a boss rush sometimes than a Souls game.

To be fair, I didnt approach it like this, I was dodging all over the place trying to get round the side/back. I couldnt manage to kill the chained ogre, thats how bad I am, its not even a proper boss.

Sekiro‘s dodging doesn’t work same way as in Bloodborne. With Ogre’s grab attack you want to jumping backwards is much safer than trying to dodge step. Also if you having hard time with him wait until you get flamethrower, it makes the fight much easier.

I've still not had time to play, but reading up on the mechanics, it sounds refreshingly different. Very excited to give it a try now, just need to wait until the guests leave in a few days. Already have it downloaded!

Then I have work though ):

I will play Sekiro then DS3, because I don't want to get into the habit from DS muscle memory.

RTTP and man this game is just too good. by now i have beaten it 5 or 6 times total, so i know all the strategies to the boss fights, and it is so much fun to just tear through bosses that used to be nightmares. it's definitely not easy but at least i know what i'm doing. Guardian Ape only took me 2 tries, tho i had waited to tackle him after taking out most other available bosses. playing on PS4 Pro for the first time, and while i've gotten drops from time to time on the whole it is very nice and def playable. boss fights are all great, and sometimes they still give me a bit of trouble.

i love the flow of this game. escaping the sewers as usual, then slowly working your way into the castle, eventually to the rooftops, then on to exploring the countryside and nearby caverns & dungeons, seeking out mystical and esoteric places with beings more and more supernatural as the game progresses.

eventually, you are dodging projectiles underwater while fighting 2 headless warriors trapped at the bottom of the moat. here is how From does rewarding Metroidvania level design: this same area you just sneak past early in the game fighting standard dudes on the bridge and walkways, it is only much later when you have the ability to dive under that you learn the shocking truth of what lies beneath.

It’s beauty of its combat system, when you master it, fighting the bosses again becomes even more fun. I love it!

So I got a good amount of time to play today. Some thoughts, and questions.

I love the combat, but I cannot seem to get the parry down effectively. Is it even possible against every enemy?

There are two routes at the start, am I making a mistake by doing both, or should I try to finish one, is that even possible?

I suck. I really suck. I'm stuck on one part against

the beheaded? I think he's called
just can't seem to parry effectively.

I'm also stuck with a locked door in the other region. I guess I missed an item somewhere, or I have to continue with the other path. Not sure what to do there.

If you're talking about the headless in the cave shortly after the Chained Ogre fight I would recommend waiting till later to fight him. You need some magic Confetti to do real damage to him and I'd also recommend Akos Sugar. The ghost enemies are easily the most annoying in the game.

Have you found the bell that lets you go to the Hirata Estate yet?

Oh those headless ones, you need Divine Confetti for your attack be effective against them and item that can cure terror. Parry these guys can be tough because one, they have delay in their attacks so it’s tough to judge the perry window and two, it seem you still take same damage even if you do perfect parry. Like the poster above said, fight these guys later on.

ok thanks. I ditched trying to fight that guy and went a different route. Came across a fellow on a horse. Got close to beating him but he’s tough.

yes I did go to the hiratara estate. I got stuck there because I need a key to continue. Beat a drunkard But he didn’t drop the key. So I decided to look in the other route.

You needed to speak with The Owl, who is in the burning castle courtyard at the top of the long winding hill on the main path of the area (right before you hang a left skirting the edge of the castle and hookshot through the trees to get to the region where Jizo the Drunkard is).

The only thing I know is playing games. I am 30 and so this my whole life. This games are so difficult it's crazy. Ds1 and 2 are fine. But parts of 3, bb dlc and sekiro are so fast and hard... Sure Ive finished base ds3 and bb few years ago but sekiro too me 2 weeks this year. Stuck on bosses for days. I loved exploration and normal combat but bosses were a game stopping nightmare in sekiro... Three ape was easy once I learned it but the last guy omfg why from soft. Wtf.
If I have a problem... Then who is this game for ?! Some of my casual cooworkers bounced right off of it.

So after finishing sekiro this year I am replaying ds3 but with all dlc for first time. I've just finished base game. The spikes are not as huge and summons are great for some last bosses like dancer or prince who I had great trouble with 3 years ago but now could do with little help no problem. Then as thanks I helped other players with my summon. We danced, gestured and it was an unique great feeling. What I still dont like about ds3 is traps and ambushes.... Like everywhere " haha we got him with this bullshit" every corner of the game... This is why I liked ds2 the most. It's just more relaxing slower game for me. But I have to admit... The graphics are amazing in ds3 4k and controls are very good just as sekiro.... Wtf is that run to nameless king? Why from... Why not let me practice himnbut have this annoying horde of shits guarding him....

Tldr. Love those games, just think that there are boss difficulty spikes in ds3, bloodborne dlc and sekiro most bosses that ruin the game. Summon helps but sekiro dont have it

You finished Sekiro, though, and proved yourself. Who cares if your coworkers didn't have the balls to rise to the occasion? There's always Peggle for them.

I finished my second all boss run of DS3 a couple of days ago, there's a bonfire right beside the fight with no enemies between it and the start of the NK fight.

Yeah I got the key thanks. I then proceeded to get destroyed by the boss and moved back to the other route.

Killed off the guy on a horse, and then a flaming beast, both quite easily. The best was a kinda boring fight to be honest, but I really liked the guy on the horse. Once I figured it out, I barely took damage. I then came up against that general guy again, but with some fiends, got murdered, and it was time to cook. So I took a break.

Really enjoying this. It brings back the souls feeling I haven't had since bloodborne. Just different. I will somehow finish the game, but it's going to be a while. I kinda like doing these updates though, reminds me of discussing Demons' Souls with my buddy when I first got it.
