Setting up 360 Surround Sound. How do I do it?

Just plug a optical cable into the back of your 360 and the other end into the reciever :)

Yep. One Digital Cable (Optical) to the receiver is a one wire solution. Its as easy as that.

Ok. Same sort of question, just different console.

I have a Slimline PS2 and a CD Player, both have digitial optical out. The CD player is hooked upto some speakers. Am I correct in thinking that this would workie?

(Connecting PS2 to CDPlayer via digital optical out and then having it run through the speakers...)

So, wait... You want to connect the PS2, via optical, to a CD player, which is connected (via what?) to speakers?

I assume by CD player you mean some sort of A/V tower.

At best, yes it will pass the signal, but only in stereo (or even mono).

From what you're saying, it won't pass along any PL or DD/DTS digital tracks, though.

I don't see why you'd want to, if the "CD player" isn't a reciever with a decoder. Whatever quality gain there is, if any, surely isn't worth it. You'd be just as good getting the audios from the PS2's outputs to to "CD player"'s ins.

Looks like its time I upgrade my sound-y system. Anyone know if its possible to get a system that has two digital inlets? (In my case, one for ps2, one for 360)

Most recievers have at least 2-3 inputs. The most common configuration for non high-end stuff is 2 optical, 1 coax.

I haven't seen any sound system in years with just 1 digital in.

But, even if you did, there's always the component switcher solution.

Yeah, most modern Receivers have 2+ Optical Ins and 1 Coaxil In. I was looking at an Onkyo for $299 a little while ago. Mid range receiver....had 3 digital in.
