Shadow Complex available for free on PC, right now. [Up: For real this time]

Jesus christ the sound effects and the quality of the voice recordings are absolutely awful.
They seriously didn't have any source files to make them sound better? It's a tiny download as it is, might as well throw in some uncompressed audio to go along.'

Is the audio really this bad or is it a bug on my end?

Wasn't this game like 200mb or so on Xbox 360? I guess they lost the original recordings

No. it was like 810mb on the original XBLA release.

In fact it was Shadow Complex in question that caused one of the XBLA space limits to be increased to 1GB apparently.

Since this Remastered version is 1.1GB compared to the 800mb size of the original XBLA, I'll assume most of the space for the Remaster stems from the higher resolution textures they use compared to the original.

Remember folks. This wasn't full retail release when it came out but a digital title via XBLA. So keep you expectations in check for a remaster that is currently being given away for free.

There are far too many people looking a gift horse in the mouth in this topic to begin with.

cutscene voices echo for me like it's playing the same sound clip twice, or three times on top of each other.

Yeah it's echo-y and extremely low bitrate, when the chick talks to you during tutorial level it sounds really bad lol

I've been trying to launch this game since last night and all I get is the connection issues message:

Please Wait

Why is this Epic Games launcher in German? Are they handling this by IP now? They didn't do that a few months ago when I tried UT.

Where can I set it to English? Why is the "settings" option nowhere to be found? Goddamnit.

Awesome thanks for the clarification. I must have been thinking of XBLA Symphony of the Night, I remembered that being one of the first bigger games after the original 50mb limit was lifted lol

On another note, still can't download this game. Sites still down :(

Someone figured out how to add this game to Steam and skip the Epic Launcher crap. This makes it play nice with BPM, great for streaming and using your Steam Controller.

Why is the audio all over the place?
Normal level > quiet > super loud > quiet and so on depending on in-game or cutscene.

Still feels great tho, long time since i tried this last.

Damn, the site is under maintenance. i've been looking forward to replaying this ever since my 360 died a couple of years ago.

For the sake of discussion (I don't pirate before someone says I do), does this make it ridiculously easy to crack their games?

"crack a game" implies to crack a protection so you are able to copy a game without problems.

That isn't what it's being done here, it isn't cracking any protection, it's just launching a game you already have installed putting the username and password in an alternative way (through a feature done by the dev, Epic) isntead of using the GUI.

Those textures
Those models
Those Nolan North smooth tones
Those shamelessly copied Nathan Drake clothes

Feels like 2008/9 still.

Game isnt as fun nowadays for me, that's for sure.

Yeah, the mouse (no trackball) and keyboard setup with the Steam Controller feels good. The game switches aiming style between mouse and controller, so you'll have to set walk/run and shoot as keyboard (wasd with ctrl set as the inverted outerbind). It's a pretty simple setup, but it feels really good.

After playing for about an hour I'm glad they gave this out for free, not really feeling it. Controls are awkward and extremely floaty, which is a dealbreaker

For some reason, the image seems to freeze on me, while the rest of the game (audio and game logic) seem to continue in the background. I need to put my laptop on standby if I want to unfreeze it. Any help on this?

Is something wrong with me that I am not interested until it is available on Steam? Even if it wouldn't be free anymore.

I find it to be an odd honestly. I don't really need Steam like that. Only thing that makes me want my stuff on Steam now probably is the Steam Controller. Before I had this thing I really didn't give a shit where my games were, or what launchers they needed.

Login menu should have a "gear" icon that'll let you choose the langauge. Unless you're default language is German, in which case: Uh... panic?

It'll give me an excuse to play through this again, but christ, can someone put the word out that not every developer needs to have their own goddamn launcher.

Seems like Epic does since they plan to support UE4 through it. Probably a lot smarter and better for consumers that they do it this way instead of going through steam. Of course UE4 games can still be sold through steam, looking at ARK for example.

Also solid competition for steam is not a bad thing.

Creating 40 different clients because every publisher wants to have their own is not better for the consumer. And GOG is the only company that really tries to compete with Steam and they do it without holding their games hostage on only their service. The consumer should be able to decide where they want to play their games.

There is no universe where the Epic Games Launcher is "competition" for Steam. It is never going to be a full storefront like Steam. This is just a stunt to get people to install a client for the F2P games they are making / promote UE4 development.

Which is fine. It is free, whatever. Hopefully it appears on Steam when they plan on selling it though.

I never got to play it back in the day because I never owned a 360, heard everyone ranting and raving about how good it was so I've always wanted to play it. I'm really really enjoying it. The jumping is kind of shit but once you start getting more and more gear it becomes awesome. Shame it took me so long to get around to it.

That is your problem. The game is free, so all people that have always something to bitch about are irrelevant. It is not like they are losing money.

Not sure if I'll like the game, but I'll give it a try (if my computer can run it).

EDIT: So do you have to sign in to be able to play the game or something. I launched the Epic Games launcher? and it asked me to sign in or register, but I skipped it and went offline mode.

"solid competition for steam"

sure

Yeah, except I never said their platform is solid competition. That was a generalized statement. It surely is competition but whether its "solid" is something else entirely and a word I used purposefully because it is vague.

Only 40? Why not 1000 or a million? Why limit your absurd example to 40 when you could have gone bigger? And hostage? Doesn't seem extreme enough of a verb.

I suppose clicking on epic launcher rather than steam is quite a hurdle and supports your entire argument.

Sarcasm of course, but felt fitting in light of the extreme nature of these exaggerations.

I thought it was a bug at my end too, but your post confirms the audio quality is bad.

As someone who tries to avoid as much as possible this kind of useless (monolistics) platforms, I think you are completely trapped into their system.
