Shadow Complex available for free on PC, right now. [Up: For real this time]

Woot! Grabbed this last night without too much trouble, runs quite well (but on a 980ti it damn well better).

I love it so far, although the VA sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom. Could use some environmental effects. But it's a small complaint, cuz the game is a blast.

Is switching weapons bugged? Control menu says scroll wheel but I just got the SMG and can't get back to the pistol.

Gun upgrades can't be swapped out like that, weapon swap might be for the toggle between rockets and gel, been too long to remember if you had seperate buttons or not for them.

Anyone else having problems getting the Epic Launcher to ...... launch? It downloads and installs. Then when you open it, it just gets stuck in the taskbar.

It runs at a constant 60 FPS on a GTX 660 and i5 4570. For some reason though, GPU usage goes through the roof on the map screen or when alt-tabbed, which makes the fan really noisy.

played about 20 minutes worth on my pc, core2duo 2.8 and a gtx 950, it plays perfectly fine at 1080p but I get framerate stutter when things load for a moment, probably my old ass ram sticks choking.

Amazing, I've wanted to try this game since I first saw it on xbox live years ago. Thanks for the heads up.

I got it to function at least by adding the launcher as the shortcut (didn't have to do this with UT) and then launching it from there. You can bring the overlay up and set your bindings but if you linger around too long without going back to the game it seems to lose focus and doesn't respond to any control method. Finally got some Steam controller bindings set up but tweaking the mouse sensitivity is probably going to be a pain but sort of works alright as long as you don't have the overlay up for more than 10 seconds. I've got a few more issues that I probably put in a support ticket and see if they get addressed.

It seems like I have to configure the controller before launching it or it won't take. Also, if I open the overlay while playing it, I have to alt-tab to get the game to respond to anything again. Just all around weirdness on my end.

I'll try to add the launcher instead of the game exe to see if that helps me out. I'm trying out some funky bindings, but it's hard to experiment when I can't go back and forth. I'm testing out Mouse Region on the right pad for absolute mouse control, but it's not feeling as good as I'd like just yet. To use the mouse, I had to go with WASD for the analog stick with an inverted outerbind of ctrl (walk). I may end up going with Mouse Joystick in the end, but I do want to give this a try before giving up.

a guide how to add it and skip the launcher

Sooo it's not showing up in the launcher. Tried resetting the launcher as well as my PC. What did you guys do to get it to work?

This. Can't find it anywhere in the launcher. Now the launcher won't even load. lol shit.

i'm an advocate of remasters retaining their visual identity. i don't appreciate it when games get the silent hill HD treatment tbh. but i guess you did.

Ha, brown and foggy isn't much of an identity.
Silent Hill is a pretty flawed comparison too. Fog adds nothing to the scene here, (quite the opposite really), while it's crucial in Silent Hill. But to each their own.

I cannot for the life of me get an account created. The launcher's "create account" button just leads to a blank screen, and the Epic Games website link is also broken. Servers melting, I assume?

I would have been so much happier if this had been given away through Steam.

Looks and plays great, but holy crap the audio quality is terrible. Some of the voicing sounds very low quality with force boosted volume.

Launcher isn't working for me. I hate how everyone has to have their own launcher now and half of them are pieces of shit. Just let us download it directly or put it on steam.

They must be having login issues. The launcher doesn't work nor can I log into their website. A about half hour ago I installed the launcher, but when I tired to install Shadow Complex, I was getting an error E80-1031 error. So I'm hoping they resolve the issue soon

Does "free for a limited time" mean that you'll lose access to it, or that you can't get it for free later?

Can't even create an account on the launcher. Seems their servers are getting hit hard. like, the necessary fields don't even appear.

This is one of my favorite games ever, and easily one of the best games during last generation.

And no, really, I am not kidding. It is HUGELY undeserved.

Dang, came home from lunch hoping to start the download but the launcher is giving me the blank screen when I go to create an account.

Guess i'll download it after work, really looking forward to playing this game.

The abrupt stuttering in gameplay is a bit of a turnoff but otherwise pretty cool game, Running it in Win 10 on an R9 290X 4GB.

Ye I am only able to use the launcher in offline mode too.

Anyway to disable the motion blur? Every time I disable it in the .ini files the game crashes when launching. On the plus side, was able to remove the frame rate cap from the default UE3 62 to 120.

.ini file is under C:\Users\<your username>\Documents\My Games\Shadow Complex\EmpireGame\Config\EmpireEngine.ini

change MaxSmoothedFrameRate=62 to 120 or whatever

It was good but could have been better in some aspects. A sequel could have build upon the good foundation and made something special. Sucks that Chair went on to be successful with the rather boring Infinity Blade series.

This launcher is pretty bad. First time using it last night I had no problems. Then today shadow complex didn't show up til rebooting it. And now I cannot click on the shadow complex tab.

Dammit, I still can't even sign in to get the game. Thankfully, I'm not the only one, which means it's a problem on Epic's end, and it'll be solved eventually.

Damned if I'm not thirsty for that Shadow Goodness, though.

Put a couple hours in, this game seems like a solid Metroid clone. A little "talky" for my tastes, but I guess that's video games nowadays.

The plot and dialog hasn't changed. Other than visual / graphics and resolution improvements. It's still more or less the same game from 2009.

I mean "nowadays" in the broadest possible sense.

Young whippersnappers, back in my day we had our MetroidVania games with barely any talkin at all and we liked it!

Well, I already have an Epic account for UE4 anyway, so I'll take the free game. Played it a bit and it's pretty fun so far.
Thanks, Epic.

Samus didn't have anyone to report or talk to. It was more of an atmospheric and discovery thing with no focus on a narrative.

Shadow Complex is loosely based on a series of novels, so it makes sense to have more on an emphasis of its plot considering the source material it borrows from.

That distinction between the more atmospheric Metroid and the more background plot based Shadow Complex isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just different.

I have this on 360? Would my only gain be 1080p as far as performance? Just seeing if its worth the hassle.

It's more than just a resolution bump. Most of the visuals were completely overhauled.

Runs at 90-120+ on my 670. I've been playing with mouse and keyboard and it's made it a bit too easy. I think I might switch to controller.

Someone figured out how to add this game to Steam and skip the Epic Launcher crap. This makes it play nice with BPM, great for streaming and using your Steam Controller.

1) Annoyingly, no Steam release, so install the game via their launcher (after registering, bleh), then manually add the Shadow Complex executable to Steam. That executable is located here:
C:\Program Files\Epic Games\ShadowComplexRemastered\Binaries\Win32\ShadowComplex-Win32-EGL.exe

2) To skip the launcher (essential for proper use), set these launch options for the Shadow Complex shortcut:
-AUTH_LOGIN= -AUTH_PASSWORD= -AUTH_TYPE=

Jesus christ the sound effects and the quality of the voice recordings are absolutely awful.
They seriously didn't have any source files to make them sound better? It's a tiny download as it is, might as well throw in some uncompressed audio to go along.'

Is the audio really this bad or is it a bug on my end?
