Shadows of the Damned (Grasshoppper/EA Partners) Announcement Trailer

The demon design has to be some of the laziest, half-assed shit ever.

They are kinda what made me excited for this game. And I mainly play videogames for boss enemy character designs.

His name is Garcia Hotspur, hunter of demons, and his wrath will bring hell to its knees.

From the creative genius of Suda 51 (No More Heroes) and Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil) comes an all-new psychologically twisted vision of hell unlike anything seen before. Shadows of the Damned combines visceral action with dark, grotesque horror to create a mind-shattering adventure that has to been seen to be believed.

When evil demonic creatures kidnap Garcia’s girlfriend, it’s up to him to travel to the City of the Damned to get her back. Aided by a former demon with the ability to transform into an array of vicious weapons, Garcia will once again take on the mantel of “demon hunter” and rip apart the horrifying forces of the underworld to protect what he loves most.

Players must harness the power of the light to fight the army of the dark in unique light versus darkness gameplay that will forever change the way gamers perceive puzzles, combat, and terror.

Combining the punk rock style of Suda 51 with the legendary horror design of Shinji Mikami, Shadows of the Damned will take gamers on an in-your-face thrill ride through demon-torn towns, shadow infested forests, grimy sewers and more. Featuring the most twisted boss battles ever seen, warped visuals and intense visceral combat, Shadows of the Damned will challenge gamers to break through the ultimate head-trip to help Garcia rescue his tortured girlfriend from the clutches of a mysterious enemy.

Brace yourself for one hell of a trip to the city of the damned.

Does this mean RESIDENT IKARUGA ALIEN SOLDIER 4?

Seems like the reception for this will be the same of all the latest Mikami and Suda projects, a love it/hate it game. To me, looks like a Robert Rodriguez version of RE4, which isn't bad actually.

yamaoka, mikami, suda51 are all names when informed about their involvement of a game i will always respond with a "yes please".

why then does this look abysmally generic?

I don't think generic means what you think it means.

As I said in the other thread, I'm guessing some of the blacklash is coming from people who only liked Killer7 and not Suda's other games, or have never liked a Grasshopper project in the first place.

It's going to be clunky and rough, like it looks, because every game Grasshopper has made (including Killer7) has been like that. Just because they're teaming up with EA and just because Mikami is on board doesn't mean shit.

I have similar feelings towards people who expected a slow, methodical super tense horror game, as if Akira Yamaoka being attached to the project would guarenty that. Everything Suda has done (again including Killer7) has been fast paced and frantic, at the very least in its presentation and cutting.

Meh. Haters gonna hate. The music rocks, the tongue-in-cheek nonsense is welcome, and in my opinion it looks exactly like the kind of game expected from Suda directing and Grasshopper developing.

You've played Flower, Sun and Rain? Fast-paced and frantic isn't quite what I'd call it.

Looked like Resident Evil 4 with more weapons and more action, but rough and early enough to not have any enemy A.I. to show off.

I dunno, the idea of RE4 clones still appeals to me. Can't say I'm fond of the main character design either, but after growing accustomed and even fond of Bayonetta's crazy eleven foot tall design, I find myself open to the idea that what's his face could grow on me.

I have, and yes I suppose you have a point, but it still has that unmistakable style and feel that all of Suda's game have.

I simply dont understand why some people (as it seems) expected a serious, edgy slow paced horror game. Outside of something like Fatal Frame IV, it would be out of character for Suda and Grasshopper. It wasn't ever going to happen.

"My name is Godzilla Hossberg" in half-Japanese/Spanish accent.

Is what I misheard. I like him better this way so I'm sticking with it, sounds more Suda.

Different opinions, I suppose. I've always considered Killer7's gameplay to be very methodical.

Yeah, I never thought to myself that Killer7 ever had a lot of pep in its step; the shooting actually falls apart once you start fighting the enemies that aren't lumbering zombie things, like the ones with torpedo jetpacks.

That is why I said;

Killer7 plays pretty slowly, but its presentation is grungy and chaotic. The cutscenes, the visual style, the story, the camera angles, the menu selections, the whole feel and style of the game.

Killer7 is one of my all time favourite games, but it still very 'Suda' in presentation. Shadows of the Damned definitely looks more in line with No More Heroes than something like Killer7, but I still think some people were expecting "Suda51's Silent Hill", and I just never saw that as a possibility.

Oh well. To each their own.
