Shadows of the Damned (Grasshoppper/EA Partners) Announcement Trailer

I really hate UE3. The main character looks like every other action game hero as well. They could have at least made him look more appealing, which is what I expect from Mikami/Suda.

That being said the game still looks pretty damn awesome.

The graphics have no style to them whatsoever. I could confuse this for just about every other gritty looking HD game

Suda what the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

what a bad day.

There goes my hope that this would be the horror equivalent of Vanquish.

Oh. Is this using UE3? Disappointing.

What an awful day, indeed. First NT's new godawful Dante design and now this.

I think he looks like Alan Wake with a scar on his face.

To be fair, at least he has that. I mean, this generation hasn't really been very diverse when it comes to main characters - any shift from the norm is welcome.

The game is a "Psychological Action Thriller" and is due Summer 2011.

I hope they show more of the "Psychological" and "Thriller" parts then, 'cause all I saw in this trailer was "Action". :P

The game looks like it might be fun, but I'm getting pretty sick of that character archetype. It's almost like developers are afraid to make a straight-ahead horror game anymore without interjecting tongue-in-cheek self-awareness through an over-the-top protagonist.
This, so much. Whatever happened to the everyday guy in silenthillesque situations? No more of this dante/drake/halo/snake guy in every game, please.

Oh, it's very psychological.

The trailer didn't really sell me, but since its a Suda/Mikami/Yamaoka game I know it in my heart that this is going to be beyond awesome :D

(at least, I sincerely hope so...)

consider me interested. I'll keep an eye out.

i thought he looked like the dood from Alone in the Dark with a scar on his face.

Really?

He looks like Benicio del Toro with tattoos.
This is the correct post.

Also... this game looks better then 90% of the trash people call good gaming now. That's coming from someone that doesn't think it looks good at all.

Someone insert the new Dante into a screenshot. Opinions should change pretty dramatically.

MY NAME IS - I swear he was gonna say Rico Rodriguez.

Looked kinda... dull.. Idunno.

Still campy, and I like me some camp.

Looks pretty generic, honestly. The main character isn't distinguishable from any other action game out there. The only thing it has going for it are the colors, I rather like the blues.

No that's just GAF being GAF.

That looks nowhere near as bad as the vast majority of crap people call good. I just hope DmC doesn't take on the unified camera mechanic that damn near every 3rd person action game has this generation.

My biggest issue with gaming this generation is the reliance on the 30-35 brown haired male shit, with identical mechanics from game to game, and guns. Usually one single mechanic separates the games. Hell they even tend to have identical art styles.

Action games were some of my favorites in generations past. Now it's impossible to get excited because damn near all of them are pure control rip offs of Gears. The crap even invaded RPG's.

The tattoos? The jacket? The torch? The scar in the face?

I don't know, I think he looks quite good. A mixture between the protagonist of the old Kurayami project and Travis Touchdown.

Besides it running on UE3, I think for the most part the game sounds and looks fucking awesome. I think this will be the type of game where once you have your hands on it, the game will click. It is a shame it's on Unreal Engine 3 though. The characters look a bit barfy with that usual plastic fantastic shine the engine is known for. Oh well.

I was expecting many things of this game, but graphics wasn't one of them...it's Grasshoper guys...his games are never technical showpieces...it's their particular graphic style they add to every of their games (well...not all of them, remeber Michigan?) that stand out....maybe that's the problem...

I wasn't wowed by anything until "My name is...". Then it started to look like the trailer might have been going somewhere, but it never really arrived. I wouldn't be interested at this point if it wasn't for the pedigree of the creators, but given their track record I have no issue taking a wait-and-see approach with the game. It's not like this is a trailer for Mass Effect 3, developed by Square Enix.

What if Dead Space was made in Japan and the lead character was the guy from Just Cause 2?
That's pretty much along the lines I was thinking. Reminds me a bit of Dead Space (meaning poor man's RE4), but if it was made in Japan instead.

LOOK HERE I AM AND I'M BADASS AND THIS IS HELL WHERE I'LL BLOW THE F**K OUT OF DEMONS AND SHIT GUNS GUNS BLAM BLAM BLAM!

That's the feeling I get watching that video, fair or not. Hopefully there's a lot more to it than that, because god damn I'm fed up with that kind of stuff. Dark gothic town at night, crazy demons, "creative" weapons, go on a crazed bloodbath of killing. Over and over and over.

I might not be as bitchy if this weren't the game to take Yamaoka.

I feel the same way. Waste of talent or work.

OK this looks like it could be pretty good to great, but it literally just looks like a mashup between resident evil 4 and no more heroes. I was hoping for something a little more creative.

Feels like it's doing what Bayonetta and Vanquish did... where Bayonetta combines fantasy and absurdism, and Vanquish does the same for science fiction, this game will do for horror.

I'm interested... kind of. Don't really like the main character's design.

Dead Space a poor man's RE4? Really?

So the game looks like a terrible Wii to PS360 shovelware port instead of an UE3 game?

That certainly has to be a step in the right direction.

you probably actually thought this was clever, which is what really makes this comment amusing.

Yeah that's the thing, people are acting like the graphics are the only thing that looks miserable, but it didn't even look compelling gameplay wise. EVERYTHING looked rough and unfun. Technically it looks a complete mess, as I said. But gameplay wise... it looks completely unremarkable as well. Really lame. The demon design has to be some of the laziest, half-assed shit ever.

I mean, I was hopeful for the gameplay because I knew Mikami was involved. But after I found out he's barely involved at all (according to that 1up piece), it's hard to try to keep optimistic after this trash trailer.

Well the glimpse of gameplay I've seen certainly doesn't look interesting. Character design is also pretty terrible, but it's Suda and Mikami so I'll still be catiously optimistic.

Yeah gfx overall were pretty bad but it wouldn't bother me that much if the rest would be fine.

And with just that, you have absolutely crushed any chance of me giving a shit!

.... I don't think you've ever posted on a Vanquish thread.

Specifically the demo one.

This generation has all but destroyed action games for me... so this looking like "me too" crap isn't surprising.

Why does he have a last name for a first name? Garcia Hosper? :lol

He sounds like Scarface and definitely has scars on his face.

Anyway, it looks very much like a RE game with Suda 51's Mexican inspired style. It might be alright.

yamaoka, mikami, suda51 are all names when informed about their involvement of a game i will always respond with a "yes please".

why then does this look abysmally generic?
