What is Shank?

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/s/shankxbla/

Shank is an upcoming 2D side-scrolling action game developed by Klei Entertainment. It features melee and ranged combat. It was announced at Penny Arcade Expo 2009. The game will be released on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC. The game was written by God of War co-creator Marianne Krawczyk.

Shank features a cooperative campaign designed to be played locally, which is a prequel to the single-player campaign. The multiplayer allows players to play as Shank or his partner-in-crime Falcone.

Betrayed by the only family he ever knew and left for dead it's up to Shank to seek revenge for the death of his beloved at the hands of the underworld's deadliest assassins. Utilizing his knowledge of gang warfare and weaponry Shank must battle his way through the criminal underground in order to seek revenge against the people for bringing his world crashing down around him.

Violent graphic novel art style: Step into a graphic novel with the most fluid and violent 2-D animation ever seen in a video game.

Weapon-based combo system: String together endless combos of mayhem and destruction on the fly and pummel your opponents to the ground using an exhaustive arsenal of weapons.

Shank Release Date Announced

At long last our release date has been announced:

Playstation Network: August 24, 2010

Xbox LIVE Arcade: August 25, 2010

PC: Fall 2010

Price point: 1200 Microsoft Points / $14.99

I’ve literally been asked everyday about the release date, and it’s been killer waiting for the announcement, and now I get to play the other waiting game for August 24… Hope you all enjoy it when it comes out! I know it was by far the most fun project I’ve ever worked on.

In regards to the PC version: we’re currently working hard to make the PC version work on as many systems as possible, and having a fun ol’ time with hardware matrices. Oh yes.

This will be awesome. My most anticipated DD game of the year. Will get PSN version unless I hear bad stuff.

Looks good, but the characters suffer a little from Monkey Island special edition syndrome: too much detail if you sit at a normal distance from your TV.

This and Scott Pilgrim coming the same day on 360?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Mafia 2, Kane and Lynch 2, and Raiden Fighters all in the same week too?

FUUUUUUUUUUUUU x 2

Tis is the first time I see this game and it looks awesome. I like the art.
But that "Shank features a cooperative campaign designed to be played locally" quote worries me. Does that mean there won't be an on-line co-op? :(

According to wikipedia it's only local.
Wait until you see it in motion, though, the animation is great.

This game reminds me of Aladdin for Genesis, only with chainsaws and shotguns. I will be huddled infront of my PS3 tomorrow evening, anxiously waiting for Sony to hit the PSN update switch.

I wonder if PS3 version will have a demo. I'd much rather get it on that system since I have a 250gig hard drive vs. a 20gigger on the 360, but I gotta be sure it's not a lesser port.

This looks nuts, though, can't wait to see it in person.

SO PUMPED for this unless the ps3 version sucks - though I don't think we have any reason to suspect that it will.... I hope.....

Eagerly anticipating the reviews (until I get my hands on the demo, anyway)...

I hope this one doesn't disappoint and is more brutal that the videos indicate. Otherwise it looks exactly like I've been hoping to find on XBLA and PSN. Now I just need The Dishwasher 2....

This game looks sooooo good. Can't wait for it.

Also looks like it'll be easy to 200/200.

Wow, there seems to be VERY little gaf hype over this game. I expected this and Limbo to be GAF's most anticipated summer games...

I hope there is more level variety then what is shown in those screenshots

Its such a amazing looking game - it would be a shame if thats all there is too it. I want jungle levels, ice levels, lava levels, metro city levels, casino levels!!!

Please no water levels though

Yeah, I'm surprised by the lack of hype for this title as well. I've been eagerly anticipating it for a while now and will likely bite the bullet tonight, despite the lack of reviews.

Will definitely keep an eye out for updates on the PC version's release date.

Lack of online co-op is dampening the hype for this game. The extra costume reveals are only increasing my anticipation. "Horror" Shank FTW.
