Shin Sakura Wars : new info + gameplay

There's a good bit of media floating around for the game, but below is off-screen footage of the TGS demo from Famitsu.

In general, the game looks nice, but I do worry--depending on how its various systems are handled--about the combat become tedious, over time.

I'll be doing a write-up this weekend. I don't want to be too negative about the gameplay, which is actually mostly decent, but I did have a couple of issues, mostly with the button layout and lack of a lock-on: You only have melee characters in the demo too, and no lock-on means fighting flying enemies is miserable.

As long time Sakura Taisen fan - I'm very excited. Hopefully the action element of the game would be enjoyable! (I generally think the battles on SW are rather on too easy side...)

But most of all, I'm super exicted for the Bandai HG Sakura Wars models!
It's been almost 20 years since I made the original WAVE model kits - and still have Erica's model unopened somewhere in basement... LOL

I knew Berlin Combat Revue would have to appear, it was a continuation of the Sakura Taisen storyline in the New York OVA

New anime series too. Though I doubt it will be as good as the Madhouse TV series but at least ost will be worth

Don't know if this is the right thread to put this in, if not then alert me to the appropriate one.
Hey, if no one's seen this, it's the opening for the new Sakura Wars game.

New Trailer featuring a comparison of Tite Kubo's sketches to final model for the main cast:

Neat stuff for anyone familiar with Bleach or Kubo in general.

It comes in the US and it looks like a restart of the series. My understanding is that there will be references to the old one for the fan but most of the story and character are quite new.

It seems like a mix, a soft reboot but they mention it is a sequel.
The interviewer also asks what happened of the characters from Sakura Taisen 1-5, and Katano says while they are not ready to say yet, he would like to make it clear that Shin Sakura Taisen is a continuation of the series.

If thats the case wouldn't be good idea to release some pervious game on current systems?

I like this game's visuals, especially the fact that I like Kubo's artstyle but I do wish it SRPG similar to Valkyria Chronicles series.

The story takes place 10 years after the previous title and features a completely new main cast. Not that I'm in any way against re-releasing the older games, but I'm sure context will be provided for any significant connections to past entries.

Also probably worth noting, the last mainline Sakura Taisen game was released in Japan all the way back in 2005. One assumes SEGA wants to sell this new title to everyone and not just longstanding series' fans, leaving one to also think they'll try to make the narrative content accessible to new audiences.

Feels like SRPG's are dying or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough at titles. I just hope the combat has some degree of variety and depth so it's not too musou-y and leans more on plain ARPG.

I think Fire Emblem Three Houses sold pretty well but Valkyria Chronicles series wasn't so lucky and I'm guessing its reason why they went with ARG instead of SRPG with this game.

Lol FE totally slipped my mind and that's a big one. But yeah VC has fallen off hard so it's no surprise there since it's a SEGA property.

Soejima, Shimada Fumikane, and Noizi Ito... the character designer list is so stacked lol.

Stream also had gameplay bits:
  • 48:35 to 50:10 – Azami Battle Part Gameplay
  • 50:51 to 57:07 – Great World Combat Revue Battle Gameplay
  • 58:33 to 1:02:58 – Smartron Gameplay
  • 1:03:46 to 1:10:32 – World Koi-Koi Wars Gameplay

Got my special edition version! It's been way too long of a wait for a new title in the series, but I'm so glad SEGA has brought it back! Time to have some fun! 太正桜に浪漫の嵐!

Once you've been able to play, we need feedback. 😍

I'll be posting some feedback ASAP. Was planning on playing all night but had a lot of other things to take care of and ended up sleeping early cause of it. There went my launch day game plans!

I gotta say, the set itself is really nice. Loved how the cds are packed inside in a way that makes it look like a gift basket design.

I know most of my weekend will be spent on the game. I avoided playing the demo except for a minute of it. It's gonna be a fun weekend

Yeah it looks pretty sexy with the Kubo art cover. Contemplating importing if it's still in stock...
