RE: Revelations is still the best looking on the system in my opinion. Looks great.

I'd kill for a port of the original Lost Planet using this and EX Trooper's engines.
Shame Revelations' visuals haven't really carried over to other Capcom games on 3DS, MH4 looks far worse, but that's due to the more open space than the corridors of RE, STILL...

I can't wait to see it in-motion on the console. I'm also damn certain it'll be 60fps. Sakurai never accepts anything lower for Smash games.
I'm sure the Wii U game will look fine, but I can't say I expect major changes from now till then, it seems they refined the engine already. Some stages look graphically disappointing though, like the Pilotwings stages. It seems like they just look the Wii game and up-rezd it.
A mod already beat you to that joke.
Improvement. Perhaps it's not quite fair to compare sprites to 3D models, but there's no way it would have been even close to looking this good on the DS.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't you comparing GBA game to 3DS there?
Have they said anything about the framerate for the 3DS version? If it runs at 60 I'm going to be damn impressed.
I also just realised that another huge reason I think the 3DS version looks better are the colours, more in line with Melee, colours pop and it just looks fun. Brawl and Smash U look kind of muted by comparison

He is indeed lol.
yes it was originally 3ds to ds graphical discussionWas the thread title changed?
I didn't see anything about the frame rate either but I do remember in one of the interviews that he said that they went with the brighter color scheme in the 3DS version because they felt that the characters were hard to see on the smaller screen otherwise.I don't think they've mentioned any frame-rates at all.
I can't imagine Sakurai letting go of 60fps, at least in 2D. Smash GAF also states Smash isn't resource intensive at all, plus, Smash 3DS gifs are pretty damn smooth.
Yeah, the colours on the 3DS seems to be a lot more vibrant and Wii U seems a lot more "serious" of sorts. Is that intentional, I wonder?

I want to buy a 3DS and play all the Zeldas and Ace's games but does the 3D really make a difference? should i go for the 3ds or the 2ds? I dont really care about the 3D but i dont know if the 3DS looks better thanks to that.
oh my fucking god
why
It's a very love-or-hate thing. My gf plays her XL with 3D always off, I play it with it on most of the time. Regardless, I really prefer the XL form factor over the 2DS, plus the bigger screens I can't live without.
So the 3DS can replicate any of these graphics?
-snip-
(Note: All of these games run at 60 fps on the Gamecube)
The DS had slightly sub-N64 3D graphics. It actually looked more like PS1 with lower poly counts than both.
3DS is somehat below GameCube level performance, but with the addition of fixed function shaders that DMP put into the PICA200 GPU.
This is insane. All credit goes to xxbrothawizxx who compiled all of these:
Yeah that XL is the main reason why i would go 3D. Thanks.
Nintendo should release a 2DXL too.
I thought I had made it clear in the post you quoted. Graphics and power are two different things. Yes the 3DS could reproduce graphics like those and improve on them in certain areas, but, although I can't say for certain but that's what I think, if the 3DS is not as powerful as the GameCube, it wouldn't be able to reproduce those graphics under the same conditions and at 60 fps. The GameCube was a powerful system, but its graphics are outdated compared to the 3DS.
I know you want proof, but obviously I can't offer a direct comparison with those pictures you showed since the 3DS does not have a Star Wars Rogue, Metroid Prime, new 3D Zelda or F-Zero game, but I can show you games in franchises shared between the GameCube and the 3DS that look better on the 3DS.

I wish the Wii U version looked like that. It feels like they are wasting resources by making two Smash games instead of one that can work with both systems (like PSASBR and Sly Cooper on PS3 and Vita). Maybe I'll eat crow when they are released though.
All that proves is that the 3DS can hold its own against middle of the road Gamecube games. None of those GC games are showcases for the system. When it comes to more advanced games, the 3DS is simply too weak to replicate the polygon counts or the TEV effects.
PS Mario Golf is 60 fps on the GC and 30 fps on the 3DS (unless they're using the delay to bump it up to 60, which I doubt)
Your comparisson is worthless. Mario Golf was never a graphical showcase on the GC, unlike the 3DS version. We have games like Star Wars: Rogue Squadron or F-Zero that while lacks direct competitors on 3DS also shows the strenghts of GC over 3DS in some areas.
IMO, while RE:R looks really good it can't compare to Rogue Squadron greatness.
Edit: Also original Luigi's Mansion has so much better lightning compared to the flat one on the 3DS...
The Vita is nowhere near the PS3 in terms of power.Except the Vita is pretty close to the PS3 in terms of power, the Wii U and 3DS are leagues apart.

Lol put any modern smartphone and PS Vita against the 3DS and see the games get trumped. The 3DS is actually a pretty poor piece of hardware technically, especially in 2013. From its CPU/GPU, RAM and poor screens.
Ok, but you said 'pretty close', which isn't really the case at all. It's closer to the PS3 than the 3DS is to the Wii U (which is more the point I was trying to make).
Ok, but you said 'pretty close', which isn't really the case at all.
It's hard to compare the two. 3DS can pull off some nice geometry and lighting effects, but it's no so great at textures. I don't know all the tech behind it, but if you ported a Wii game to 3DS it would look different.
Also, rjc571, why do you keep bringing up framerate even though I keep saying I'm pretty sure the 3DS is less powerful than the GameCube? This is a thread about graphics. It was in the thread title until a mod changed it.

I dunnos, having finished Mario 3D Land the other day and going right back to 3d DS games like Phantasy Star Ø an Dragon Quest IX I'm not seeing any eyeball melting downgrade in looks. I am kinda easily pleased though. Going from PSP to 3DS sure hasn't impressed! Outta the games I've played on each I still give the nod to PSP for nicer graphics. Maybe a more accurate comparison'd be Mario Sunshine vs 3D Land? In that case I'd say Sunshine wins in the looks department.
This is mighty impressive for DS.Ubisoft got the best out of the DS hardware with COP the Recruit. I bought the game JUST for the graphics

gameplay footage
MH3U 3DS is only 1.8GB, so fitting a 2GB card instead of a 4GB one might be a good reason why they reduced the texture resolution (saves money on each copy sold).
Anyway, about the GC/Wii vc 3DS comparisons: mobile hardware always needs to sacrifice bandwidth, thus why while the 3DS can output visuals on par with GC/Wii, it can't do it in the same scale and performance.
