i didnt realize this was console exclusive. is the 3ds streetpass thing worth it?
When people say console exclusive I think it generally means one of two things: either it's only on consoles but not PC, or it may be on PC but it's only exclusive to a specific console or line of consoles outside of PC. Though there may've been better terms there, but ah well. Not sure what you mean by exclusive. There's a PC version as well, and other console ports are in the cards.

This is how a lot of games were pre handholding forced tutorial days.

The game doesn't recognize it either.
I'm somewhat confident we'll eventually see Playstation versions, likely locking down confirm/cancel given Sony seems to be tighter about that (which would probably work out better if they were consistent among regions...) but Xbox is a crapshoot. Maybe they quietly loosened the restrictions after Spencer took charge, but I kind of suspect they're just being somewhat liberal with exceptions so long as the game's fairly successful, and if I'm right seeing it on XB1 and maybe 360 would be entirely dependent on the game being successful on other platforms, though it does seem to be.I have never heard this being the case but I could be wrong, here is the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yachtclubgames/shovel-knight
Maybe late this year or next year they will announce ports?

Do you mean the relics? X is your inventory and you can swap them with the gamepad as well.I NEED TO STOP PLAYING THIS.
btw is there an inventory system where you can switch to different abilities you've collected on the way? cant seem to switch it up

It's probably important to get those out first anyway, especially if an Xbox version is in the cards at all. Microsoft has not liked this much free stuff being added to games in the past, so it's better they're forced to deal with one complete package instead. Sony seems more accommodating but it'd still be less of a development headache anyway. They've never made official word on it; I'm fairly close to the devs and in a few streams they stated that if SK does well, they are interested in more versions. They don't make any promises though as the promised versions and features are a bigger priority.

Yeah, I chuckled at that part too."What impressive use of a limited color palette!"
Oh you silly game.
What's the deal with the campfire dreams after completing a level and the treasure chests with the meal tickets in them sitting by the campfire? Do the meal ticket chests only appear if you complete the level without dying? And what are the conditions for the "Catch Her" dream appearing?

Oh you silly game.
Am I the only person who has no idea what to do at the final boss? No one else is even discussing the final boss, just "Oh I beat it."
Bounce off Shield Knight's shield, then bounce on the head of the Enchantress
I don't remember that portion. Where was it?

I'm a few levels in and am genuinely impressed at how good this game looks and feels.
I think they cheated in the best way too, they clearly studied the NES and how it worked, then broke that down and bent the rules as suited the game's design and overall look, rather than taking the approach most others seem to and go "eh it looks sort of NES-ish?" and frequently looking more like a SNES or TG16 game instead that was overtly blocky.Yep - the soundtrack is god-tier, the graphics are NES-like (but you can definitely tell where they 'cheated', graphics-wise -- not that it's a bad thing, mind you), and the challenge so far is just right -- not insanely hard, but not trivially easy, either. The first two bosses died in the first attempt, but both times my health was brought right down to the wire.
I know what I'm going to be working on finishing this weekend...
What.
I've heard this game mentioned once or twice (convulsion guy in OT played it, I think) but I've never seen it or heard anything or its gameplay. Then I saw this thread.
I think I was sold after the first screenshot, then the trailers confirmed what I suspected: this game looks too good to pass up. I have one question: is there any good reason to not get this on Wii U? Other than it lasting forever on PC, of course. (If it's that good, I'll probably double dip when I get a new PC).
Yeah the attention to detail they display in order to maintain the quasi-NES aesthetic is pretty damn awesome.I think they cheated in the best way too, they clearly studied the NES and how it worked, then broke that down and bent the rules as suited the game's design and overall look, rather than taking the approach most others seem to and go "eh it looks sort of NES-ish?" and frequently looking more like a SNES or TG16 game instead that was overtly blocky.
Granted, this looks way more late NES/early 90s, but I kinda prefer that since that was when many of the best, most enduring NES games hit anyway.
And most if not all of my Friends list are actively playing the game. Granted it's not like the Wii U has tons of games and a wide variety of them, but MK8 did come out about a month ago. What do you mean "Nobody playing WiiU version"?
Tons of people are already active on MiiVerse and you can see their posts in game. You just have to tap Digger's Diary on touch pad for the first time, and it will become active.
