Shovel Knight |OT| The 8-bit adventures of Butt Butt Goes to Europe & Australia

My God, the third Black Knight fight is beyond words.

EDIT: OSTs up? Avoiding for now until I finish. Too tired to finish the second half of the tower of fate.

Not sure what you mean by exclusive. There's a PC version as well, and other console ports are in the cards.
When people say console exclusive I think it generally means one of two things: either it's only on consoles but not PC, or it may be on PC but it's only exclusive to a specific console or line of consoles outside of PC. Though there may've been better terms there, but ah well.

GO GO GO

BOUGHT AND FUCKING BOUGHT, SO GOOODDDDDDDDD

I bought this today.
The game doesn't recognize it either.
I can't do the configuration thing through steam because big picture mode doesn't like the dpad at all, but it works with other games I've tried it with.
Any thoughts?

I have never heard this being the case but I could be wrong, here is the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yachtclubgames/shovel-knight

Maybe late this year or next year they will announce ports?
I'm somewhat confident we'll eventually see Playstation versions, likely locking down confirm/cancel given Sony seems to be tighter about that (which would probably work out better if they were consistent among regions...) but Xbox is a crapshoot. Maybe they quietly loosened the restrictions after Spencer took charge, but I kind of suspect they're just being somewhat liberal with exceptions so long as the game's fairly successful, and if I'm right seeing it on XB1 and maybe 360 would be entirely dependent on the game being successful on other platforms, though it does seem to be.

I NEED TO STOP PLAYING THIS.

btw is there an inventory system where you can switch to different abilities you've collected on the way? cant seem to switch it up

Just got the game for my Wii U becuz DDP and there Azure Striker Gunvolt coming in August for 3DS only.

I have to say I am loving this game. Some stages are giving me some mega an vibes, other like the specter knight stage gives me serious super castlvania 4 vibes (especially when the boss of that stage is like Death from castlvania lol). Speed running this game should be plenty of fun. Best Indie game I ever purchased truth be told.

They've never made official word on it; I'm fairly close to the devs and in a few streams they stated that if SK does well, they are interested in more versions. They don't make any promises though as the promised versions and features are a bigger priority.

Do you mean the relics? X is your inventory and you can swap them with the gamepad as well.

I believe you hit select ( the - button for Wii U, not sure for PC) if you want to switch between fire wand and fishing rod if that's what you mean.

It's probably important to get those out first anyway, especially if an Xbox version is in the cards at all. Microsoft has not liked this much free stuff being added to games in the past, so it's better they're forced to deal with one complete package instead. Sony seems more accommodating but it'd still be less of a development headache anyway.

What's the deal with the campfire dreams after completing a level and the treasure chests with the meal tickets in them sitting by the campfire? Do the meal ticket chests only appear if you complete the level without dying? And what are the conditions for the "Catch Her" dream appearing?
"What impressive use of a limited color palette!"

Oh you silly game.
Yeah, I chuckled at that part too.

I think it's just the amount of regular levels you completed, or tied to an individual level.

Am I the only person who has no idea what to do at the final boss? No one else is even discussing the final boss, just "Oh I beat it."

This game is so goooood. I was not hyped for this at all but my buddy backed the kickstarter and told me to check it out and I am loving this game. I've only played a handful of new releases this year, but it's gonna be hard to top this.

And damn, that arrange OST is hot.

Bounce off Shield Knight's shield, then bounce on the head of the Enchantress

Yeah, I just figured it out.
I guess I just wasn't getting the timing right the first few times, plus down-thrusting to go up through something never happens before. Still that has to be my only complaint about the game.

What.

I've heard this game mentioned once or twice (convulsion guy in OT played it, I think) but I've never seen it or heard anything or its gameplay. Then I saw this thread.

I think I was sold after the first screenshot, then the trailers confirmed what I suspected: this game looks too good to pass up. I have one question: is there any good reason to not get this on Wii U? Other than it lasting forever on PC, of course. (If it's that good, I'll probably double dip when I get a new PC).

I'm a few levels in and am genuinely impressed at how good this game looks and feels.

Yep - the soundtrack is god-tier, the graphics are NES-like (but you can definitely tell where they 'cheated', graphics-wise -- not that it's a bad thing, mind you), and the challenge so far is just right -- not insanely hard, but not trivially easy, either. The first two bosses died in the first attempt, but both times my health was brought right down to the wire.

I know what I'm going to be working on finishing this weekend...

Watching the Let's Play at GameXplain. Keenly interested in this game now. Equally split between Steam, 3DS and WiiU, though... Leaning toward WiiU.

I think they cheated in the best way too, they clearly studied the NES and how it worked, then broke that down and bent the rules as suited the game's design and overall look, rather than taking the approach most others seem to and go "eh it looks sort of NES-ish?" and frequently looking more like a SNES or TG16 game instead that was overtly blocky.

Granted, this looks way more late NES/early 90s, but I kinda prefer that since that was when many of the best, most enduring NES games hit anyway.

I'm intrigued to purchase this now. I'll likely give it a download tomorrow evening sometime, from what I've been reading I'm in for quite an experience.

The Wii U version is great. You won't be disappointed.

I think I'm on the home stretch (one more Order boss and relic slot left). Man though, the dagger and the fists are super cool, wish they had more than one challenge level each.

Gah, I can't seem to properly move horizontally while downstabbing with the 360 pad, and I lost close to two hours yesterday trying to get my PC to recognize my DS3. I'm feeling the need for a Nintendo D-pad. Would you guys recommend a Wii U Pro Controller for this or something else? I imagine the browser passthrough for the Wii U Gamepad would lag, right?

(And why am I not playing on Wii U? EU backer, that's why. And why am I playing on PC? Because the devs generously gave me a code, that's why.)

Just found out about this game. Looks amazing. Having a hard time choosing between the Wii U and 3DS versions. Is there more picture in the Wii U version?

Am I missing something about NG+? I've only done the plains and King Knight, but the only difference I see is
the food items you get either via large enemies or platters are now bombs.
Is that the only difference?

Yeah the attention to detail they display in order to maintain the quasi-NES aesthetic is pretty damn awesome.

The Gamasutra piece on this subject was a great read.

What do you mean "Nobody playing WiiU version"?
Tons of people are already active on MiiVerse and you can see their posts in game. You just have to tap Digger's Diary on touch pad for the first time, and it will become active.

And most if not all of my Friends list are actively playing the game. Granted it's not like the Wii U has tons of games and a wide variety of them, but MK8 did come out about a month ago.
