Show us your gaming setup: 2011 Edition

Is that a Wiimote holding up your Kinect? lol
lol looks like it doesn t it. It's actually an L shaped bracket. I used velcro to secure it to the TV and Kinect itself.

This thread is awesome. I'm currently moving my game room to another bedroom in our house to make room for a baby nursery. :)

This thread is giving me lots of good ideas, as I'm looking to get a new TV and put together a new, more streamlined setup. Keep posting pics folks!

Here is my summer set up. Everything is perched upon a coffee table for the time being.

Really nice setup and collection. I have been looking for a sound system and I think I might go for the one you have. How do you like it? Do you have wireless rear speakers? I hear I have to buy extra pieces to use wireless :(

Yes, the system I picked up does have rear speakers. Unfortunately I couldn't find a link to give you on amazon. I didn't pay much and it came with everything. Only complaint is that I think it wouldn't hurt if the rear speakers were all a bit louder. Maybe I just bought too quiet of one. But it's really good in an apartment, since you still get the roar from the sub, but the sound isn't too crazy.

Sorry, I was asking specifically if the rear speakers are wireless. I would have thought most surround systems would have wireless rear speakers now, but most of the ones I've seen do not.

Some of these "set-ups" are pretty sloppy and resemeble pawn shops. I couldn`t go that overboard even if I dedicated an entire room to gaming. Finesse and elegance guys

Still, interesting to see how people get their gaming on

Don't be a dick. Just because someone's taste isn't the same as yours doesn't make it bad.

Looking at people's collections, do you really go back and play old games once a new generation has been released? I always found myself bored/uninterested once the new systems come out. I sold my PS2 before buying a PS3. I sold my Xbox before the 360. I sold my GameCube, before the Wii. Am I alone in this?

I go back and play older games all the time, and I still have kept nearly all of my games (apart from the games I absolutely hated). Currently playing Shining Wisdom (sucks) and Popful Mail (awesome) now... but I'm one of those people who aren't very much interested in what current-gen has to offer at all.

Anyways... I am soon to be the owner of my own place, and am gonna need furniture. Any classy and attractive ways to store tons and tons of games (including NES/SNES/etc)?

Cabinets/shelving with doors to hide everything, lol. I haven't posted my current setup but I have all my REALLY embarrassingly-nerdy stuff in a separate room than my gaming setup, but in my living room, there's a large IKEA bookcase that houses all my PS3/360/Wii/DVD/Blu-Rays. There are optional doors available for this unit and I am strongly considering buying some. I think my A/V setup is also an eyesore, but the wife hates the units that surround the TV on all sides, so I'm not sure what else can be done.

I haven't quite reached were you are at, but after knowing how amazing it is to go back and play games on the N64 and sort of relive that childhood, I don't plan on ever selling a system or a game (unless the game was actually crap)

I love your lighting. How did you do it? Also, is that huge thing a subwoofer?

Thanks. It's just a rope light behind the second wall (green). The second wall is there to hide all the cables. Easy to make. And in the ceiling there are 8 dimmable halogen spots.
And yes, that huge thing is a subwoofer. It's from nubert, one of the best german speaker manufacturers.

I think it is safe to say this setup will be EPIC...

So what kind of tv will you be running and size?

Are you making sure not to run your electrical through the same holes in the studs as the rest of your stuff? It will give you slight interference and they should only cross at right angles to minimize the interference. In Ontario the minimum separation is 50mm (2 inches) for regular household circuits (less than 300V) and I bet the code for your area is the same or similar. That is sexy as hell. When I get my house built I want to copy that look.

It's a 50" screen. I would never have been able to get away with it if I wasn't able to basically dedicate a floor of our house to an AV room. We have a "lounge" upstairs for entertaining without having The Monolith (as my wife terms it) looming over us. Plus I find the setup for talking is often at odds with watching/playing; i.e. couches and chairs in a semicircle as opposed to couch pointed right at TV.

Guys like eXistor, I really appreciate when they post pics though, as I feel I can appreciate and marvel at the dedication without having to dust all of it as you said, heh.

Again I can't help but note the degree in difference; there aren't too many "in the middle" setups. It's almost like a right brain/left brain thing.

I concur with that assessment; the single largest driver in switching from our old 65" setup to our current projector setup was the reclamation of space. Same reason for going with the soundbar vs. (separate speaker) 5.1/7.1. After having posted my setup I sat there staring at the wires which aren't even part of the system just our steam cleaner and vacuum that I didn't crop out and I'm "pissed" : - )

I just realized I never posted my before/2010 setup, I should do that to give a frame of reference.

EDIT: Former Setup

Initially will have my 52X2000, but the setup is sized to accommodate a 70 incher.

I'll have to check from my electrician next week, I think that's what he did but better check. Thanks for the heads up. The sockets close to the ceiling are from the back four speakers, by the way.

For reference, here was my front elevation of the setup.

Chittagong, how do you like that receiver? Had it long? I've got the same model but only really use if for my 360/PS3 and don't even have 7.1 from it (still rocking 5.1). I feel I'm not using it to its full potential.

I think it's been a really good purchase to be honest. The onscreen UI is a bit clunky, but other than that it continues serving me year after year, and I'm only now going to 7.1. The only problem with the receiver is black crush bug on component video input, means nothing with component can really be used with it (e.g. Wii). Other than that, solid box of AV. All my stuff runs through it - PS3, 360, satellite box, AppleTV, computer. I'm using the pre-outs for my active speakers, and running only one HDMI to TV.

Same thing for the 52X2000. Sony's first 52" LCD and 1080P LCD series, soon five years old, still haven't found anything to top it significantly enough for me to move on.

when i move to canada next year, i want to buy a nice 32inch tv over there for mostly gaming and other HD goodness, what brand is best for that size? a sony bravia maybe? also what stores/sites have the best deals in canada for hdtv's?

No particular best brands. I have a Sony Bravia in my bedroom as a secondary HDTV. It's fine.

There's no one best site for deals. Check your local store and only buy on sales. Judging from your username you're American. Canada doesn't do Black Friday like the US, but we do do "Boxing Week" which is basically pretty heavy discounting from December 26th to December 31st. There's no amazing OMG GOT A $2000 TV FOR $200 stuff, but if stores are going to clear inventory of slightly out of date models, they'll discount a few hundred dollars on them. So that's the way to go.

Boxing Week sucks ass. I bought my 50" Panny G25 during Future Shop's Canada Day sale last summer for $200 less than what it was on sale for during Boxing Week in the same store.

Don't even bother with boxing week. The stores are way too fucking busy to save a small amount of money on an old model TV.

Nice place, I'm loving the color scheme.

Wow that's very nice glaurung. I particularly like your TV cabinet and the coffee table. Would love to see more of it, maybe under different lighting? :D

I really like your setup too Goemon_Godo. The couch and coffee table are really nice. I really like the clean and minimal style of many of these setups.

Thanks, had to blur out the windows because GAF lurkers do not need to know where I live.

Both the TV stand and the coffee table are custom built. The TV stand houses my PS3 and blu-ray collections. The coffee table drawers contain all used remotes and controllers, headsets and cables. The coffee table weighs approximately 450 pounds.

The TV is the Sony 46X4500.

To the right of the TV is my new PS3 Slim, the old - broken - PAL launch model rests on the windowsill. To the left of the TV there is the new 360 S Elite version with Kinect. Both suck. Hiding next to the 360 is PS2 Slim.

Here's a better angle:

Beautiful stuff glaurung. Where did you get your TV stand and table, if you don't mind me asking?

Here's an update of my setup. A week later.

5810853303_3f65d39207.jpg

the background of my setup is nearly done. Cabling routed for all electronics and speakers, wall mounted. Kinect / sensor bar hatch has been done.

Next up is paint work and then cradles.

As I said above, both are custom built according to my own specifications.

The coffee table turned out a bit bigger than I was anticipating, but I've already gotten used to it.

I read it but didn't quite thought it actually meant that. Amazing job. What's the material, painted and varnished plywood, mdf or?

The TV stand is all MDF, the front surfaces were shaped with a vacuum form.

The table legs are wood, the main plate is a couple of wooden plates glued together and then painted/polished.

Really nice job on those Glaurung. :O

And ooh Chitta it's starting to take on shape, can't wait to see the finished setup. :D

even more impressed now - that vacuum thing is amazing, gives it a surreal form. Reminds me of the Offecct acoustic wall panes. Also the polishing job on the table looks flawless.
