Show us your gaming setup: 2011 Edition

I wasn't able to find speakers shallow enough to fit on the shelves I had built to frame my television with (posted a couple of pages back), so I taught myself to build my own:

I like the clean setups and all, but I want to see nasty basements with shit piled up and tons of games. Come on ya'll, I know you're out there.

I already posted, but I'm working on something new (I've been saying this for a few months now mind you). When that's done I'll post again!

Well, I graduated in May, and would have never guessed a year ago that I'd still be looking to start my career :-( Luckily my mom is super cool and doesn't mind me crashing in the old bedroom, so I figured I may as well make myself comfortable. Pretty much everything that isn't current gen is out in the garage or basement in boxes. But considering how small my bedroom is, I'm pretty happy with it.

And yeah yeah, it's nerdy. Don't hate. I do actually manage to have a girlfriend ;p

Looking at these amazing pictures, I'm afraid to post. My setup is so bad in comparison that I think my account would get banned.

Lol, too bad I just cleaned up my gamingroom, since my room was exactly that: tons of games and piles of shit :)

I moved into a new place 3½ weeks ago. I used the move as an reason to upgrade my set-up. Ditching my ancient All-In-One home theatre system and replacing it with a dedicate Pioneer AV Receiver, Mordaunt-Short floorstanders, centre and rears and an Audio Pro Image subwoofer.

TV is a Sony LED XBR. PS3, 360 and Wii. Little table next to TV cabinet used for when laptop is hooked up to act as HTPC.

I am in no way an audiophile, but to my ears, my new audio system it sounds great. A clear 'bright' sound from the fronts, with punchy bass from the sub. Games and Blu-rays sound orgasmic.

It took a fair bit of fiddling with crossover, phase control, speaker levels etc to get a sound I liked once the sub was added. And a huge learning curve, as the time last month, I'd never even heard of crossover, phase control etc.

Also, how thick are those blinds?

Yeah, I know. We bought one last weekend, but it didn't look that great when we got it home, so are still looking. Man, wooden floor look nice, but fucking hell they're uncomfortable.

The plantation blinds are hefty, and built into the window frames.

How did you mount(?) your center channel? Is it on a shelf, mounted with a bracket, or do you have a stand behind the stand?

I can't for the life of me figure out a solution for mounting my center channel. The shelf under my TV is too small to place it on, and I have windows right above my TV, so I don't have the ability to mount to the wall behind the TV or even build out a shelf.

Yours looks like it might be a stand or even mounted atop the TV somehow?

Even just a like, throw rug in front of the couch or a rug under the furniture would be fine.

I'd rather see the pretty floors and have slightly worse sound. We just took our rug out of our living room, and I think it looks much nicer. And if the floor color changes due to UV it will all be the same shade, instead of having a rug shaped different color area. And the room looks bigger without one. Judging by audio equipment, though, SPE cares more about sound than I do though.

My wife really, really wants plantation shutters, but we're in a middle rowhouse, and I think it would make the room too dark during the day.

@Z3r0Gravity
The couch is from Germany where I live. Can't tell you what brand it is but I think it's a german brand.

I used this

to mount the Center Speaker. Here you can see how I did it. It's easy to do.

Looking for some desk recommendations from fellow gaffers. I've been looking to get a new desk as the one I have is about 6 years old. I'm looking to get something that is good quality and will stay in good shape and last me a long time

These are my constraints;
  • Price Range: max of $350 (would go that high if it was worth it--- would like to stay lower)
  • Desk Type: looking for an L-setup
  • Dimensions: height is not an issue, but would like something that is a max of 71"W x 71"D in that L-setup (preferably smaller than 71x71 though due to the size of my room)
  • Style: no glass, probably a darker color, like a cherry or a black-brown
  • Monitors: I do have two monitors, but one is a main one (32") and the second one is a (24") --- so they don't necessarily have to sit right next to each other

I've been looking at many options:
- Bush Westfield
- Bush Envoy
- ikea Galant (A-leg and T-leg)
etc.

Any suggestions would be great :D

Oh? Am I missing out on something?

I'll have to post my setup next week when I get my camera back.

I WOULD say just go check out the 2009 Gaming setups thread, but this is easier. Someone let me know if we are not supposed to quote really old posts or not.

The barcelona chair is probably the big giveaway. Being a big MCM fan, I'm envious.

There was another user on here that admitted to having knock off Barcelona chairs (had 2) and a Flos Arco lamp. He also had multiple Eames chairs, most of which I have no idea whether or not they are authentic.

Meh. It depends on where you spend it. When you have a decent job, and your saving a lot for one buy, most of the more well known stuff in those pictures is within reason.
You just have to be okay with using 1-2 yr old technology without upgrading every time a new thing comes out.

I have an interesting setup in 2011 not fully flushed out yet.

But theres a wall with a hidden switch in the bookcase

pull the switch and it opens up to my 40in plasma and Wii

This is the beauty of having a well coordinated and timeless space.

Shit looks as cash as it did when he first showed it a few years ago - and will continue looking cash well into this century - because that style is specifically the modernist style that hails from the 1920s.

Of course some of those pieces (like the ikea shelves) come from much later within the 20th and even 21st century - but again, that's the beauty of an intelligently coordinated and timeless space.

Only hassle is that you need to treat things well to keep them looking good AND you need to pare down the clutter. It's not a space for 'collections' (or much of one anyway).

I don't have the money to buy half the things itt, especially the chairs and tables. I have the consoles but none of the setups. Don't care about using old stuff my pc is from 2008 and older

Never been to ikea or anything but I would like to.

The super, ultra-modern ones look nice like... in a catalog or something, but they would suck to actually use. Chittagong's got it right in that he's balanced cool-looking, expensive shit and functionality. Some other people like that BTF dude with all the B&W gear also has it right. And that Goemon Godo guy.

Balance is the most important thing in making a rad setup.
