Show us your gaming setup: 2012 Edition

I live in a state called Tabasco located in the south of Mexico.
It's a cinder blocks wall with the stone tiles on it.

A house like this on it's own piece of land(this one is inside my family property next to a bigger house) on a nice gated community in a decent part of the city could go for as much as $250k maybe more depending on the location. Since i was the designer and i oversaw the construction it actually cost me around $70k :D

Took a couple quick pics for another forum, and figured I'd post them here, too. Not a whole lot has changed. Still have all the last-gen and older stuff in storage right now. Looking to possibly replace the iMac with a Retina MacBook Pro if the 13" ever materializes. And lastly, I'd love to switch the TV with a 3D model; but it's not in the cards right now.

Need more shelves, too... Desperately. Just got no place to put 'em!

Let us build you a computer next time, never buy alienware.

I have an Alienware from 2yrs ago and it was 150$ cheaper than what I could build myself with the same/similar parts at the time. I have zero complaints with Alienware. /shrug

I highly, highly doubt that. Or else you had no prior knowledge into building or what you are looking for.

Not to mention AW uses pretty low build quality parts.

OR! (Just go with me here) Or possibly I know exactley what I am talking about, have built all of my computers in the past, and the Alienware I bought was still 150$ cheaper than what I could have built myself at the time.

No matter what kind of weird logic you have to use in order to justify not being dead wrong in this situation it will never change the fact that I researched my last in depth and found it cheaper from Alienware. If facts do not jive with the way you preceive things to be then I don't know what to tell you other than it is really fucking annoying trying to talk to people like you.

For future reference, at least when I bought mine, a person could save a great deal building a low to mid ranged PC. However, when going for the top of the line on everything it was a wash at best, and more expensive to build your own at worst. My last PC was pretty much the best thing money could buy at the time. Hell, the 5970 still fetches top dollar today.

Maybe you got some kind of special deal that may be out of the ordinary. I'm speaking generally as well.

But just from a quick browsing of their site I'm looking at a $1500 build with a 3820 proc, 8gb of ram (2gbx4 lol), and a gtx 555...with no monitor, mouse/keyboard, or even an ssd. Again, for $1500.

This is pretty general, a massive markup. I could make that same build for $600-$700 bucks depending. Maybe even cheaper because I would use quality parts. Its a known fact that they use the cheapest brands in their psu, mobo, ram, etc. Thats why they don't list the brands on there.

Any recs on a new desk? Looking to stay under $200, and it's got to have plenty of room. L shaped might be in the cards. I have a 24" and a 19" monitor right now, will have 2 24" in the near future. Don't want a keyboard tray or anything.

I'll post my new setup once I get situated in my new house =) It's going to be nice having a TV and a Computer in the same room again

It's coming along...

Don't mind the flash. It gives the walls a weird cast like the paint is not even...Believe me when I say that it is...

I'm only working with a flood light in the space for now.

Cantona, very nice setup, especially the tv stand ! Picture is huge though

Thanks. It was supposed to be a test (I removed the pic). I uploaded all my pictures in tinypicDOTcom but for some reason I cannot upload them here. The url appears as ****** I then tried imgur.com and it worked. As soon as I uploaded all my pics, imugr went on maintenance :P I'll post all pics soon.

Coming along nicely, are you leavng the ceiling white or planning to cover it?

Also, 16:9 or 2.35:1?

The ceiling is actually a light matte grey colour and I'm planning to leave it. It doesn't reflect a lot of the light. I WAS planning to go darker, but I'll make a black box for my next (More dedicated) space.

The screen that I had ordered is a 16:9 110" tab tensioned electric screen (1.4 gain). I'm mounting a 64" plasma to the wall as well.

Quick teaser until I build the new desk I want, mount my TV(not pictured) to the wall, Genelec 6010a's + L-Stands arrive & a few other things

Let us build you a computer next time, never buy alienware.

I appreciate the offer, but I know (and have) built a few towers in the past. Around the time I was looking to build a new gaming rig, I found a deal on the Alienware that was absolutely ridiculous.

This was about 3 years ago, when it was all top of the line:

i7 930
AMD 5870
12GB RAM
500GB HDD

And after a pricing error, a discount code, a coupon code that stacked, another error on their part... I got it shipped to my door for about $775. At the time, the 5870 was a $400 card by itself.

I'll probably replace it with a new rig in the next 6-12 months, and I'll most likely build my own from scratch. But it's always worth looking to see what's out there, IMO.

beautiful room!
Thanks

Yup, very very nice. I absolutely love that wall, how did you make that? The gaming setup is also ace, but I said that before already
These are stickers. I bought them from the Nintendo World store in NYC when I used to study in the US.

Where did you get that couch?
I'm from Kuwait. I got the couch from a furniture store called Home center.

Sorry for the crappy quality....

Haven't used my consoles for about a year now (PC gaming took over 100%), but I'll keep them just to fill the space.

Pretty excited about today-- recently moved into a new apartment with this really creepy upstairs and I thought "this is perfect for horror movies and games!" Except, when everything was finally set up, it was just way too tacky. One wall is painted like shit, uneven hardwood floor, etc. I thought it would be cool, but, it's not.

So today we're going to switch the entertainment room to where the bedroom was and vice-versa. Sure the bed will be in this creepy upstairs room, but we're going to do some more work to it, and there's already the giant-ass dresser that the previous people left behind that we decided to take over since it was too huge and heavy for them to take with them I suppose-- so once the bed is up here, it will be more like an upstairs bedroom than a tacky upstairs entertainment room. Would have been great if my furniture meshed better with the floor and walls but nope.

Anyway, excited to see how this turns out. This room is much nicer in every conceivable way and is just "made" to be an entertainment room.

Nice pick up. Looks very threatening in black on black. Like a crazy super car of ergonomic chairs.

Mine is blue on white, looks very friendly. Like a mario cloud. :P

I'm still trying to decide on color scheme before the next Herman-Miller sale, because I'm definitely buying one of these sonbitches. Thinking about going with grey fabric and black everything else... don't really wanna get super colorful with my computer chair.

But yeah, right now I have some Ikea piece of shit that's insanely uncomfortable. Can barely enjoy playing Torchlight II in that thing.

Any cheap stereo recommendations? Until we move into a house, I'm not interested in plopping down a lot of money for a surround sound unit, and I recently discovered that connecting my PC speakers to my HDTV via the headphone jack provided some exceptional sound.

So, what kind of cheap sub $100 stereos or even cheaper PC speaker sets would you guys recommend for decent stereo and bass?

None. Save up for something worthwhile.

Personally, I would not buy anything cheaper than this: http://www.theaudioinsider.com/prod...d=184&osCsid=88ed9980018263ae3f33f659f0d882e4

There are some okay-ish Logitech/Klipsch sets that are a bit less than that, but they're pretty crappy, honestly.

Like I said, I would rather just buy some kind of cheapish stereo for now and have decent stereo sound since we're in a temporary apartment and high-end sound setups would cause too much noise. So I'm looking for something simple just for the time being.

Right now I've been using some... oh, they're probably 6-8 years old PC speakers connected to my TV, and honestly it sounds fine... clearly terrible in comparison to something great, but it's way better than the sound the TV puts out. Just for now I don't need anything great, just something that will suffice for a little while.

When we move, my girlfriend will be a certified pharmacist, so we'll be able to afford whatever once that happens :p

Just pick up a cheap soundbar until you can get something better. I'm not an audiophile so it works for me.
