Shroud reveals YouTube revenue and it’s “not as much as you’d think”

Shroud disclosed his monthly YouTube earnings as part of a wide-ranging discussion about his overall income while live on Twitch, but stated it’s not what “people would probably expect.”

As part of this Fragathon charity stream on January 24, the FPS specialist answered questions from his community.

He revealed his YouTube revenue in the process, stating, “I could tell you how much I make off YouTube. I make anywhere from $5,000-$9,000 a month off YouTube. Which is amazing, don’t get me wrong that’s great, but it’s not as much as you’d think.”

The streamer added, “It’s really good, it’s just not what people would probably expect…”

Shroud went on to state that his income from YouTube varies widely month-on-month, with his highest month netting him about $11,000, and his lowest month earning him about $4,000.

Shroud reveals Twitch subscriber earnings

The streamer also showed his Twitch subscriber statistics and claimed that his subscriber number had vastly increased due to the Fragathon fundraiser. The former Counter-Strike pro estimated his current subscriber count was roughly 13,000. “I normally sit at about 5,000,” the streamer clarified.

The Canadian also revealed his average revenue per Twitch sub, concluding that differences in regional prices mean that the average is “about $3 per sub.”

Despite his subscriber numbers, the FPS streamer made it clear that subscriptions were not the driver of his Twitch revenue. Instead, the streamer emphasized the importance of advertising, stating, “Without ads I wouldn’t make any money. Without ads, I’d have to sell my house. It would not work.”

Shroud highlighted that while community subscriptions and donations were once the primary sources of revenue, Twitch ad revenue has now taken the lead. “It’s an inevitable loop,” he explained, adding, “If you live in the space long enough, you will be making your money off ads in the future.”

wait did the twitch meta change in the last 2 years or something? Ads used to be pretty much worthless. Yes, you ran them every 30 minutes or so for 90 secs or sth to get an increased share of the revenue, but subscribers didn't see any ads to begin with and the money was in subs (and other stuff) mostly, but never in ads.

Man, this world is fucked where guys are innately inferior content creators. Remember earlier I posted an OnlyFans girl earning 40+ million in 2024?
And the fault of that would be only us men. If so many of us didn't throw money at OF models, they wouldn't make that kind of cash, but evidently a lot of us have zero self control. I'm not saying it's right, and I'm not saying it's fair, but it isn't the fault of women so many horny dudes would rather throw their money away towards them.
I won't blame anyone for taking the bag wherever they can get it (legally speaking of course).

Only watched him once and it was as fun as watching a match of curling.

Godlike aim but boring as fuck.
C'mon don't insult curling like that.

I don't know this guy. How many subscribers does he have on YT and how many views do his videos get?

Anyway, seems to me even relatively small creators can make a decent living on YouTube and Twitch, so I don't care much for his perspective. Probably started living beyond his means.

He’s Canadian, right? That’s not much then indeed. We get taxed heavily and our dollar is worth around 2/3 of a usd. It really isn’t much at all.

This doesn't sound right. There's a youtuber I've followed for many years that does a daily vlog and he's talked about what he makes from Youtube, it's his only income, and he's doing really well for himself. The way he lives off way less views than Shroud wouldn't be from ~$100k/year. He also shut down his Patreon several years ago and doesn't sell merch because he was making more than enough from Youtube. This is a youtuber with only ~750k subscribers and his daily videos only get ~50k views.

He has an absurd 6.8 million subscribers, but his views are pretty damn bad. His videos pull in about 100k more viewers than the average Jim Sterling video and that dudes YouTube channel is all but dead.
