Shuhei Yoshida theory on Sony working on Bloodborne: "Miyazaki-san is too busy"

He doesnt know anything about the game, but theorizes Sony is waiting to work again with Miyazaki:

Miyazaki-san really really loved Bloodborne, what he created. So I think he is interested but he's so successful and so busy so he cannot do it himself and he doesn't want anyone else to touch it. So that's my theory and the PlayStation team respects his wish.

Can that be considered a theory? He used to be the head of WWS until late 2019, so it's exactly what he did.
People like to go "hurr durr Sony has abandoned the IP for a decade", but they forget that Sony released the From Software-developed Déraciné in November 2018. Do you guys really believe that Sony never approached them for a Bloodborne sequel?

The real answer is Sony just doesn't give a shit. They wouldn't need Miyazaki for a remaster or remake same way they didn't need him for the Demon's Souls remake....

For a sequel sure,I'd buy that explanation/theory but doesn't change the fact that Sony has done nothing with the IP for 10 years despite fan outcry.

Imagine holding onto this narrative after a crucial source dispels it.

Sony hasn't touched Bloodborne themselves because of respect for Miyazaki, which suggests they asked for permission to do the Demon's Souls remake.

When Sony actually buys the rest of Kadokawa, I expect we'll see movement on this, but yeah, it could take a long time when From has their own priorities and the publisher/developer split isn't in their best interest.

It sucks that you got banned on Icon Era.

Well Mibu no ookami Mibu no ookami beat me too it. With how some reacted to Demon Souls remake, I agree that Sony CAN remake it without him, does it make sense to?

Danjin44 Danjin44 and a few other users didn't actually like some of the art direction choices made by Bluepoint games and actually wanted the input by Miyazaki, so I feel maybe it makes sense they wait and have a more faithful remake.

Because they can, doesn't really mean they should and they might have a really logical reason why they are waiting

Who do you think Sony is in this situation? You realize that Shu IS Sony for at least half of that 10 years time frame, right?

Also, Shu talked a bit about GAAS and remasters in that podcast. I wonder if this will be like that moment GAF (and even ERA) started to dunk on Shawn Layden when he started saying stuff people didn't like to hear. :p

I think Sony needs to start being more vocal with the community. They take such a bad rap by remaining silent on things.

Same with not doing a 30th anniversary showcase. They knew people thought there would be one and they just remained silent. They could have easily said, we'll have more to show in the new year and left it at that.

They currently have a really bad marketing and PR policy and it for sure has a cost associated with it.

The emulator version that’s available right now with mods is already better than whatever remaster Sony will release lol, it’s actually crazy how good the emulated version is!

Sure,he has part of the blame as well, won't defend that. It's obvious that Sony doesn't care anymore about what fans want unless it either sells gangbusters or has ties to their movie endeavours like Until Dawn....

Makes sense. Bloodborne had by far the most interesting lore of From games hence I always thought it’s quite personal.

Good for us because that means there will be a full scale Remake one day from Miyazaki himself.

You're projecting.

Bloodborne sold 8 million units on PS4 alone. With the success of Elden Ring, they'll be even more interested in Bloodborne and everyone knows the Souls games do even better on PC and they're now supporting PC.

Again, it isn't that Sony doesn't care about what fans want, life is just more complex than that. You want to boil it down and simplify it to something more easily consumable by yourself, but it's not the reality of the situation here.

P.S. Sony would probably love to do Bloodborne transmedia as well.

Sony farmed out Until Dawn remake to Ballistic Moon. They didn't use any internal studios nor did they work with Supermassive Games. That's not the situation Sony wants with Bloodborne obviously. If Until Dawn isn't successful it's no sweat off their back and they don't care about their relationship with Supermassive either. That's not the case with FromSoftware and Bloodborne.

Sony doesn’t tell its studios what games to make. Same reason why we don’t have a Days Gone 2 yet. Bend will do it when they want.

lol this is a bit too dramatic

Why invest in the company that owns From Soft?

unless it either sells gangbusters or has ties to their movie endeavours like Until Dawn....

? Astrobot didn't do gangbusters and they still make those games and they have lots of games that are not movies though...

I mean, why even remake Demon Souls if any of that is true?

I mean, even better question, why allow several teams to make new IP? Naughty Dog making a new IP, Sony Santa Monica making a new IP, Sony Bend making a new IP

So...I don't know what to say lol We don't know how those IP will do to be like "unless it sells gangbusters" as those are all unknowns, Sony like any company want everything they make to do gangbusters, but fans want new IP, so does Sony, that is good enough for me lol

I think it makes sense to hold off on a remaster of Bloodborne or remake until Miyazaki or Fromsoft wish to be involved based on Demon Souls reception, as Bluepoint games is currently working on....you guessed it, a new IP.

All facts.

One thing I'll say about Demon's Souls is that I think it was super limited due to the supply constraints on PS5 when the game launched. I think the game needs a PC release and a new advertising campaign. It's probably sold 2 million units, which isn't terrible. Had it sold 4-6 million units combined with a PC release, I think that would be quite a win for a remake of a PS3 game. Definitely a game that would have benefited from a PS4 version too.

Boy these aged like fine milk didn't they what with the announcement of the cancellation of the projects from both Bend and Bluepoint.

Sony clearly lets their devs do what they want and what they wanted apparently was more live service games. Bend must've been real impressed by those Concord numbers. I'm sure it's all Bend and not Sony execs greedy for money...

...Since as alot of you said,Sony still cares about what us PlayStation fans want and what we wanted was apparantly a God of War GAAS from the most acclaimed remake studio in the business and not...ooooh IDK...a BLOODBORNE fucking remaster or remake!!!!!! I'm sure that decision was made out of respect for Myiazaki's busy schedule and not just pure corporate greed....

Not sure what you mean?

Days Gone was an MP game that they decided to change and then went back to. It’s known they picked it themselves.

Sure but the gaas angle i doubt is their decision

And I would love a Days Gone 2 but it's clear Sony is interfeering with these studios. These are all the fruits of Jimmy's labour before he retired leaving Hulst with the chaos he created out of his greed. I do commend Hulst for having the balls to cancel these projects.

I want Sony to get off trying to relive past successes. Make new fucking games. The Bloodborne throatgoats might not have their remaster/remake/whatever but the sooner we move on completely, the better.

This is super weird commentary.

Bend must have been impressed by Concord numbers?

When do you think Bend started their project in September? What does this have to do with bloodborne?

Go look at how Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Collosus and Ico were chosen by Bluepoint. Bluepoint asked Sony to do those games. Same with Gravity Rush, or do you think that was Sony's corporate greed too?

Do you think it is a coincidence that they had previously worked on the God of War HD collection and that they've worked with Santa Monica on Ragnarok?

Head scratcher.

Both Demon's Souls and SOTC were sellected by Bluepoint back when they were contracted by Sony as a 3rd party not owned them.

And 2nd this is about the Sony leadership that went all in on the gaas initiative which started around 2019 with slim Jim Ryan taking the reigns. 2 years AFTER SOTC was released and 1 year before Demon's Souls was released,a game which would've already been in production by then.

So the current leadership had no say in those past projects but the fruits of Ryan have come to bear now seeing as all these gaas projects is what he's been greenlighting and yes "forcing" on these studios. I sincerely doubt that the studios that have created anything but GAAS till Jim Ryan SUDDENLY wanted to try live service....almost all of them at the same time... Quite a head scratcher indeed.

The entire industry is moving towards live service games. Not just Jim Ryan.

They're continuing to take up more gamer hours. It's a pie you can't not try and bake.

As games get more and more expensive to make, single player games are going to become riskier and riskier.

I say this as a gamer who is single player only. It's just a reality.

Bluepoint could handle the remake if they were not occupied making a cancelled gaas gow title.

It's a fucking remake, you just need to not follow square enix route with the shitty remilks and just gimme updated graphic at 4k60.

Dude is just spewing bullshit now that he is out of playstation uh??

Well, after the Demon's Souls remake, the only ones who should touch the Souls games or Bloodborne should be From Software themselves. So, good on Sony for not just giving Bloodborne to another studio.

But from has no power didn't they?

Bb should be owned by sony, am i wrong?

Even if they nail 80% of it, it would be already a huge win compared to no remake at all or compared to less deserving remakes.

Or Sony just doesn't want to sour the relationship with FROM by making an remaster if Miyazaki is against the idea.

I sincerely doubt sony would sour their relation with from for a remaster\remake.

They took some liberties already with demons and i didn't heard about miya being mad for that.

Dude is probably occupied thinking about his next game to care that much about a remaster.
