Silent Hill: Book of Memories |OT| A Different Way Forward

Seems like every level, I miss a key and have to go back through the entire level to find it. Other than that, the game has been pretty fun. Seems like this formula can become boring quick, but I hope each zone changes things up a bit.

I like dungeon crawlers and I did enjoy the demo. My main concern is that it could get very repetitive quickly. Two things could alleviate this: varied environments and evolving gameplay mechanics with different enemies, tactics, etc. At 20 dollars I'd just buy it but I'm hesitant at 40. Looks like its gotten two good reviews and one bad one. Would love impressions from those deep into this game.

I'd like to hear more about the story as well. You find a book. What's next and how does Silent Hill fit into it all???

The player has full control over how the plot unfolds, though most won't realize this until they look more deeply into the Notes they've collected. So far a lot of people are assuming the Karma Meter is the be-all/end-all of the story system but that's not the case (though in most instances it has a minor influence).

I'll drop two hints:

1) Not every note is changeable. Only the notes with a symbol can be changed. (Also, only the Boss Notes can be Neutral)
2) Note 8 is your big puzzle hint.

how does Silent Hill fit into it all???
The first 5 and final 30 notes weave everything into the mythos.

I got a few endings, so I guess I "finished" it. It's pretty decent, and addictive - I found myself hooked on it for a week or so (then I got Virtue's Last Reward, so that stole me away). There's PLENTY of replay value (at least 100 Zones), provided you don't get bored of the same dungeon crawling routine. But that holds true for any dungeon crawling game, really.
My big complaints with the game are:
- floor traps in general are pretty lame. I was going to just say "poison traps" but I found myself being annoyed by slow traps as well, at the worst possible times (running away from a dying Cancer, which explodes for a lot of damage)
- very vague explanation for manipulating notes and therefore obtaining other endings (see a few posts up, by Roland aka Tomm Hulett)
- excruciatingly long load times. I set down my Vita and go to the kitchen to get something to drink everytime a loading screen pops up.

But yeah, despite those complaints, I had a pretty good time with the game.

Thanks for the info :D

Just a heads up for everyone. We're giving away a copy of SH: BoM in my thread for the web series Gamesies - it's only for gaffers. Alls you got to do is post in the thread, and you're entered:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=497869

I'm surprised at how much I liked this game, so I wanted to pass along a copy!

I love way forward and their games but I honestly don't see why this is a Silent Hill game other than maybe to try and attract Silent Hill fans to the console. Reviews are about what I expected from Way Forward, very solid gameplay and deep mechanics, I'll definitely try the demo on this one once I get a Vita, and then maybe a purchase.

Yesterday i cancelled my "pre"order and i downloaded it from the eu psn.
I'm liking it(obviously if i wanted to buy it), i really think that we would make a favor to the game posting screens of some of the various locations.

I don't understand, there are 3 dungeons for every guardian, and there are 7 guardians, so 21 dungeons, what about dungeons 22-100?

The platinum seems to be easy, am i right?

Just finished the game (one ending only). Was very fun and addictive every step of the way. Daniel Licht can score anything Silent Hill related from here on out, as far as I'm concerned.

End credits has one of the best Silent Hill songs to date: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqOgHrr9dQk

One of the best is quite a stretch. I did like Licht's work on Downpour though. Yamaoka was so lazy with the last couple OSTs that a new composer was really needed.

Well...some of them you can only get on multi, if you don't have friends with the game, it could be a drag. I've checked the trophies and they don't seem difficult at first glance, they just require repetition which I prefer over some of the stupid trophies out there.

I'm still wondering wether to get this SH or not. The price is pretty okay in comparison to NFS and AC but I'm not sure if it's a good enough game on its own? I quite enjoyed the demo, does it stay interesting or does it get repetitive? I've read this thread already and still get mixed impressions out of it.

My guts tells me the game is decent enough and has something unique about it, but I'm afraid this might be wrong based on just a demo.

It's too early to judge, i made only 6 dungeons and 2 guardians, but as i said i'm liking it.
Things get more difficult since the third dungeon(there are rooms full of enemies, and there are steel enemies, bigger and stronger than normal enemies, not present in the demo), locations seems to be various(industrial, woodland and some sort of catacombs) and every location seems to introduce a pair of new enemies.
I plan to post some screen later or tomorrow.

PS:
in the dungeon number 6 the optional mission was
to escort a dog to the exit lol

I'm only at the dungeon number 8 and i'm starting to die frequently...

In the italian store the game has 65 scores with 4.45/5 as the average, not bad for a shitty game ;)

I made some screens just to show the first locations

This game is easy going and very enjoyable.
I got with a discount for 15 euro's and I'm enjoying it. It feels like Diablo 3 the fun version :)

I understand that fun is not the word you're normally looking for in Silent Hill games though

Hey 2+2 (and any EU gamers) - how is the localization in your language?

Obviously I can't judge other languages the same way I can judge English, so I'm curious how it compares. Is the story interesting? Does it feel natural in your language or a bit weird? How is the voice acting?

Is it annoying or rather good where you have to use your skills in order to overcome dying?

Ps. keep those impressions coming. I'm very interested in knowing more about the game :)

And the screenshots look good, actually the graphics look better than I thought it would be. I had that feeling with the demo but now even more so with some of the new zones that look more atmospheric and appealing.

The italian texts localization is very good, no errors or similar issues. The voice acting is good, but i don't like too much the girl's voice.
Overall is very good.

Imo the 2 next locations look even better, but i don't want to spoil too much, but if you want i post other screens.
Karma skills are a little annoying to use because you need to tap 2 times on the screen, and the light ones(the ones that heal you draining energy from the enemies) need to touch enemies with the rear touchpad and some enemies are fast. But in the end is a matter of practice.
It is very annoying when you die because loadings are long and you lost all the progress after the save, but it's not a great problem if the first thing you do is to search for the save room avoiding all the encounters and taking all the bonus on the way.

Imo very little is known of this game, for example i didn't know that enemies are very different from each other and other than blood, light and iron they can be
flaming, explosive, corrosive etc
, or that there are
invincibility, curative/draining(depending on your karma), poison(misleading name, it leaves you with 1 hp for 10 seconds) etc
traps(that activates whatever passes over it, player or monster, so they could be lethal or a great help)

I think I know the answer to this but do you ever pick up clothes and armor?
You can buy little aesthetic things like hats, masks and eyeglasses, no armors, but you can find, gain or buy accessories that alter your stats.

On the left you can see how big a dungeon can be(i'm the red point on the right of the map), you can hide inventory and map.
