Russ has a flash drive from his Mexican distillery where they make Tres Comas, has some over produced and obnoxious video showing how legit the tequila is. He pops it into a PC without asking and the cheap flash drive is infected with a crypto virus which infects the PC and with their write access to the FTP (which is dumb too but we'll let that go for now) the virus encrypts 2000 hours of porn content.

Cryptolocker reference. That could work too.

But then they would have just plugged it back in and started the transfer again.
I was imaging it causing all servers to fall off the mounts or some other physical thing actually. lol

Wow, the delete key scene talk is making me hate the fan base around this show. Jesus, it was a bad scene. Get over it. During your nightly prayers please pray that mike judge grows a soul and apologizes directly to you for that unforgivable sin. Maybe jesus is a fan and stop him from entering the pearly white gates. "guess what mr judge, I just left my bottle of heaven vodka on your entrance certificate: Bye bye you piece of shit"

Tape is cheap and so is SATA based object storage. Nonetheless, this is a tv show and thinking about realism shouldn't be a consideration.
can you give me a quote on some tapes please. ours are shit expensive

im surprised people are getting bent out of shape over the delete key thing. it was funny. him explaining how it was impressive because they deleted 'really fast' was also great

Yeah shame on us for discussing things about a show we like to watch and how maybe it could be better. I'm sure you've never criticized anything on the internet either, right?

If it was a bad scene that wasn't pivotal to the overall plot, it wouldn't be getting this much attention. But it was very important to the plot, and now the plot feels forced. The success or failure should seem more natural than this.

My favorite part of the episode.

The non-acknowledgement of Erlich made me lol. I saw it coming but still. Just a hilarious moment of silence.

Haha, I love how you burst in here during a civil and mostly bored-at-work discussion and accuse everyone of ridiculous hyperbole...in the most ridiculously hyperbole-filled post in this entire thread.

I would assume that this is a deliberate joke you're trying to make but I don't think I can give you that much credit.

(it was a joke)
Probably poorly constructed (and thusly received) to be more antagonistic than intended since I did it on my phone without reading it over. The scene was pretty stupid, but I imagine it was done because of technical reasons as someone stated above. Since they have to appeal to a non-tech audience as well, likely they rewrote a better scene into a shorter, cheaper scene. I'm not worried yet, since the show is still robustly hilarious to me, but I will be worried if they continue doing scenes like that. Russ's reactions after the fact almost made up for the cringe-tech.

I thought the tequila bottle scene was kind of dumb but the other moments in the episode (pedophile early adopters) definitely made up for it. I could definitely see how people could really dislike it though. Even as someone who isn't really into coding it doesnt seem realistic to have your data like that where it can be permanently deleted (and no backups). I get anal about that kinda stuff with biology in tv shows so I definitely understand

Yeah it didn't bother me too much but definitely seemed out of touch with the somewhat realistic tone of how they demonstrate tech otherwise in the show. Surprised this was something that passed Judge, was pretty sure he had somewhat of a tech background, checked wiki and holy hell dude helped program F-18s. Heh love this quote of his when describing his experience working for a video card company in Silicon Valley,

The people I met were like Stepford Wives. They were true believers in something, and I don't know what it was

I'd say that's a common theme in the show :p

Just watched the episode and it looks like I'm not the only one who was disappointed in this episode. The somber "he fucks" was absolutely hilarious though.

Just re-watched the episode. Forgot how funny the part was when Dinesh said "Look at all this shit? Are we 90s?" and then lightly pawed at all the wires.

Just noticed that Thomas Middleditch and T.J. Miller star in a film out now called Search Party. Anyone know if it's any good? Reviews seemed mixed to unimpressed. Just wondering whether it has any connections to Silicon Valley (in terms of the writing) given they were both cast for the film. Anyone seen the film yet? Impressions?

I doubt it has any connections to Silicon Valley's writing crew, this is a Scot Armstrong production. he wrote Hangover II, Road Trip, Starsky and Hutch. the other writers are known for direct to DVD American Pie sequels, and every review I can find is very very negative, and Universal hasn't and might not ever give it a proper US release.

safe to say it's not worth going out of your way to see. Just watch a bunch of TJ and Middleditch's old sketches on youtube

I thought it was a pretty funny episode, save the stress of PP stagnating for another week. The delete key thing didn't bug me as much as a lot of people in here... that goddamn massive tequila bottle was clearly going to mess something/one up by the end of the episode, and it was perfect that Russ was the one to actually fuck them over rather than anyone in the team (or outside of it, for that matter). It's definitely fitting that someone so fucking awful used something that stupid to cause so much damage. For me, at least, it wouldn't have been funny or shocking or interesting if someone had hacked in or a virus had taken them down or Russ had crashed into the garage and took out the servers... it had to be something really, really stupid to make an impact.

On another note, in Richard's defense, he's generally too honest for his own good. I can kind of see where he's coming from, but it is getting to be kind of grating.

Also, Jin Yang firing up one of Monica's cigs right there in the office cracked me up. I did miss Jared's bizarre brand of optimism, though. I think that would've helped with the frustrating mess that Richard is always orchestrating.

I can't help but think the untimely death of the actor who played Peter Gregory seriously screwed up season 2, if not the entire show.

Maybe the writers will have a better season 3.

I think most people seem to think season 2 has been rather good, they just botched last weeks episode.

This is exactly how I see it. Not sure what the hub bub is about.

I've never seen the dude outside of SV

Holy shit are he and Richard like night and day or what?

He's pretty chill. I encourage others to listen to him on the Indoor Kids podcast (on the Nerdist network). Kumail (Dinesh) co-hosts it with his wife. There's a more recent one with Middleditch and Martin Starr which is pretty cool, you get a feel for what their chemistry is like working on the show, most of them have been friends for awhile. There's an earlier one with just Middleditch that is pretty good too. He's a pretty dedicated gamer too, plays flight sims with track IR iirc.

The 2-3 episodes before last week's were the best episode of the series BY FAR. Some of the funniest shit I've seen on tv.

Gavin Belson becoming a more major character has been the best thing to happen to this show. Almost every scene at Hooli has been hilarious this season.

New episode tonight:
Binding Arbitration

Pied Piper and Hooli enter binding arbitration; Erlich demands to be put on the stand; Richard worries about Hooli's claim; Jared, Dinesh and Gilfoyle question a philosophical theory.
Tonight is episode #9 of 10 from this season.

So are we certain this point that the finale will be a Pied Piper, End Frame and Hooli triple showdown at CES? They've been name dropping CES all season (like how they did the same with Tech Crunch last season) so CES should be definite for the finale correct?

Maybe, maybe not. They've still got to address the lawsuit and funding problems. Would feel a bit rushed if they crammed all of that plus CES.
