How did you get enought profit/day to be able to get them? I can't break the 100,000/day mark.

I built a recycling center and a trade depot (or was it a storage depot?). Built addons for the recycling center to filter alloy, plastic and metal. Those materials were shipped to the trade depot and stored. Once it was full, I selected EXPORT and made ~$192k. I left it on and its making around ~$120/day.

My map had no natural resources so it took awhile to accumulate population and trash :)

I'm enjoying the game when I can actually play it, but I agree with every point.

I'm actually really interested in how sites handle the reviews for the game. Its pretty damn fun but there's nothing worse than a broken game. Some would say to wait till next week or whenever these issues are fixed for a more accurate view, but I feel like the role for reviews is to deliver a timely assessment of a game. If reviewers bomb the game now while its quite literally broken, will those reviews still hold up a week or two from now when/if things are rectified? Not really, but I guess I understand why Polygon is trying to take an active stance with changing scores.

Hilarious review. Very well done, but honestly that score should have been lower.

looks like servers are stable now. got in on first try. in-game quest log thing shows up now too

I'm getting to the main menu on nearly every attempt (which is better than last night), but that's as far as she goes. Done for the night and crossing my fingers for tomorrow night.

Nope, mine still doesnt work.

Ok, and how do you "hold" resources in the trade depot? As in not trading them actively and waiting for the depot to fill up?

Wait they disabled the sharing of resources between cities? Oh fuck you. I just spent a fortune upgrading my Power Plant so I can share it with my fledgling city.

In other news: Selling processors is making me Jay-Z rich. THANKS FOR RECYCLING RICH FOLK!

Wait, so you can export goods to no one? I assumed there'd have to be another city in the region that needs it in order to sell it.

So u can set up a recycling center and profit from it? I am trying a casino sin city but failing hard. I have a ferry, passenger train and even a muni airport. Pff my casinos are losing money. I set up a Expo center to see if i can make some cash and add a Stadium and theeen see if my casinos fill up.

My industrial sector was nonexistent due to nuclear meltdown, my citizens were really well educated (but it still melted down - go figure) so i kept accumulating a ton of recyclables and no one was able to use those resources locally they just kept piling up.

Edit - answer to your question is yes.

Release a final product as expected, get good reviews.

Simple really.

I believe it's exported to the global market? As in not regional? As I understand, the only reason a Region would need alloys and stuff is for one of those 'great structures.'

I really feel for the developers. The team at Maxis seems to have put their hearts into making this game, and had to deal with all these idiotic additions imposed by EA.

Fuck. EA.

Okay, that makes sense. The same way you can buy resources from the global market. I guess I just missed the option to allow it to be exported. I had a recycling center, and a export facility (with the plastic addon), and it just piled up until there was no room left.

Is there any kind of tutorial beyond the "Getting Started" one, its not so much a matter of doing the wrong thing but just not knowing what to do full stop

Fuck. EA.

Most of the interviews with the developers and various "insider" stories have said that EA were largely hands off (like they tend to be with their larger studios) and that it was members of the Maxis team who were pushing for a lot of the features people are complaining about

So how would I trade a good with one of my region mates? He needs alloy, I'm now making alloy... do I sell it to the global market, or keep it locally and send it to him somehow, or...

Ok, so I logged in after the patch. So the new cheetah speed isnt cheetah speed at all? But we still have three levels of speed... So is normal now slower than actual speed? Can't really tell...

No. There a mini-tutorials while you play the game though. They're pretty useful, but you learn more by experimenting and starting over, or at least that's been the case for me.

Medium and High speed are now Medium and Medium speed.

Anyone know how to tackle air pollution when your pop is low and you have no industry? I have no idea why air pollution is coming in when I don't create any air pollution.

I quit my city in cheetah mode.

I can join the server, but I cannot get back into my city.

I believe those two things are connected.

Plant some trees.

With the servers back up I started working on my garden city. Been extremely easy on traffic so far. Just added buses now with 50k population but they were not really needed. I think it will transition well to 200k+ population

:(

Such a gigantic dissonance between the polish, attention to detail and depth of simulation against the absolutely daft requirements to play it.

I'd be really disappointed if Maxis sabotaged their own creation. But then again, I know how corporations work all too well to see it happening.

nah. it's not i'm setting it to that. quitting the game and hopping right back (NA EAST 2) 4 times so far and not once did it fail.

Ugh. I'm so bummed. Game deleted over two hours of progress last night. I have zero desire to redo this shit. :-(

if you have no industry, then that means pollution may be coming from outside your box right now. Unless you have a coal or oil power station in your city.

I wonder if holding off the pirates for a little longer is still worth the bad press and customer dissatisfaction to EA. Are they still under the impression that all those pirates suddenly turn into customers if you have successful DRM?

This is honestly a huge travesty, I was really looking forward to picking this game up since Maxis games have been a huge part of my childhood. I was watching one of my friends try to connect for a solid few hours earlier today when he got it installed and good to go. Then we managed to get a connection after about 30min and it kicked us off for emergency patching after literally just getting into the game. :\

Yes. Which is a good and bad thing. You can only play that city on that server but each server gives you 10 more slots.
I know what you mean with "a good thing" but still kinda crazy when a game like this should let you save as many files as your HDD can hold...

Yes, you even have to redo/cancel the tutorial in each server.
Wow... :/ So it seems everything is server-side, including checking if the player has played or not the game...?
Also, is your account connected to the main profile in Origin or is there some sort of profile per server, ala MMO?... I don't think so, but with EA you never know.

North American East 1- Available

Click to play, "unable to connect to server".

Hmm. Yet there are people playing on NA EAST 2 which is 'Full". WTF. I wanna play my game!

Wow, I've actually been playing for 2 hours bug/crash free for the first time since I bought it early Tuesday morning. Being able to play the game I bought, what a concept!

Annnnd my city is a mess already. It's like a hedge maze made of roads, most of them lead nowhere and end when you least expect it. I need to wrap my head around curved roads better. I've always made my cities grids.

ps: Europe West 4 is what's working for me.

So, according to SimCity, a Megalopolis is 100,000 people now.

And confined to an area 2 kilometers in size. For reference, the average 18-hole golf course is 0.6 square kilometers. That means your SimCity Megalopolises are just shy of three golf courses.
