SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

Is it possible to build a city with no industrial or no commercial? I'd like to try one and see what would happen, but wondering if it would fail miserably.

The game designers would like to convince you there is. But its basically impossible at first. It seems to me like every city has to start somewhat similar in order to get the unlocks only obtained by reaching population milestones, then you can dump your residential / industrial / etc. entirely as long as you have supporting cities.

Saw the thread on the horrible pathfinding and I have been experiencing this since 100k pop and after that you have to completely redo the whole transportation system in all of my cites. Any road that isn't a maxed out avenue is worthless. Throwing more bus stations actually makes it worse, all of my buses stick together in a heard and skip stops, trash trucks pickup from the same location in a giant group and only cover half the city. Shortest path only algorithm is only a small portion of the issue. *protip get rid of the small buses completely and switch to municipal buses, helps having fewer on the road*

I have 200k population and have no traffic in my city. If you click the road icon, nothing shows up yellow or red. And when I turn off my bus stations/depots, there is a lot of traffic.

It's all about how you design your roads and adjust to any traffic there might be in the beginning. People wanting to make left turns at busy intersections is usually what can back up several streets.

At first more or less no. Later on you can if there are other cities in the region to make up for it, but the current traffic/pathfinding AI makes it that it is unwise to have only one type of thing in your city .

When i created a new city and built just residential, the place was a ghost town during the day because everybody commuted to the first city i made, so it's definitely possible.

EDIT: And you said no industrial OR no commercial. That is definitely possible. I have no commercial in my town right now and there is no demand for it either. And I also only have one street zoned with industrial.

Is the server queue thing new? I don't recall encountering it before when trying to connect to a full server. It also sucks that there STILL are server issues almost a week later. I tried to load up my game to play at lunch only to find I'm in a queue that won't check back for 20 minutes? WTF?

its not even a queue, just a 20 minute fuck you timer. no, it isn't new

My first city to hit 200k:

Great looking City, Wes. I love checking out screenshots from people's City's. There should be a "Share your City" thread.

I've not started the game yet, going to crack on with it tonight, but that City space looks smaller than I was expecting. I'm going to be playing in a shared region with some friends so hopefully that will offset the limitations.

There's a city showcase section on the main OT post but I'm not getting any time to really work on it or go through the thread. But yeah, an actual thread would probably be better as I can't really shove in loads of pictures for everyone's city in one forum post as it would be horrible. May end up using that section for more of a featured cities thing instead.

My first city. I think I did a pretty solid job on a shitty-ass plot and for being the only one in the region.

I find that a ratio of 95% residential to 5% commercial and industrial still leaves me with a ridiculous number of jobs that never seem to get filled. I don't quite understand it. The only time I even get remotely close to filling out all the jobs in my city (and there's barely any) is after I finished my Arcology and leveled it to 8.

I was just about to post how much better than server situation for SimCity has been for me, when this happened:

"Servers unavailable. See more info link for details."

When I hit the link, I am shown the list of servers and whether they are full or available. The server I had been using, North America East 2, is green, but I cannot connect to it at all! I knew EA was going to make things difficult; I never thought, however, that it would be this frustrating.

Yes. I have like 5 blocks of industries (maybe 10 high density industries?), everything else is commercial and residential

And there are like 15k+ unfilled jobs in my 180k pop city. And NOBODY commutes out.

Where the fuck is everybody working?

On a related note, I noticed that there's a SHITLOAD of people coming from "The Region" to my university.

They said on twitter that it would be taken down for upgrades.

I play but I've been on the verge of quitting for the past month, haha. That game has it's own issues. I kind of want to get level 11 houses and finish off the island mayan temple quest. I really want to quit it, but I don't know why I don't.

PM me if you want to get a new neighbor. :D I have like 1 other person who maybe boots it up once a week or two so getting the permits is totally impossible. I still don't even have Level 10 houses! Up to 28 blueprints or so..

Where can you see the level of your houses?

Well I just had a city fail hard to pollution and just not able to make a profit out of my casinos. Going to start a new region on NA East 4.
I'm going to make it public and the region name is Aqueous Adventure.
If you want me to just invite you, send a friend request to Banderk.
I swear one of these times I'll get a city over 130k and not have it start to fail all over the place.

Was hard work but I'm finally getting my industrial city in order. Lots of exports with a trade port ready to open once I could add additions to trade HQ, and my small population base seems content and my services are operating slightly below capacity. Yup, things are finally turning aro-

!!!BREAKING NEWS!!! METEOR STRIKE IMMINENT!!!

....why ;_;

I believe the base max is level 9 (660 people). You had to get 40 blueprints and a bunch of supplies to unlock level 10. I think they've now made level 11 available as well but I'm not to level 10 yet.

I'm still confused on this. I haven't seen blueprints in the game at all, so how do you get/find those?

Never had an issue selling goods from trade depot before, but right now I have 4000 barrels of oil on hand and they won't sell.
Any ideas. It's set to export

Trade depots sell once every couple hours, so you're probably still exporting the oil, but you're producing quicker than the depot can hold, so once the depot sells the oil, it immediately fills back up with another shipment.

Check your monthly transactions and make sure you're still making money of selling oil.

Yea. I've had it forever. I already checked that since I'm used to seeing it in there. It just isn't selling.
Not sure if my lack of education to this point is a problem.

is traffic coming from outside supposed to be this bad?

Don't make an intersection right as they enter your city. You can still have that road turn, as long as it's not an intersection, that way the cars entering your city never stop. If you make the avenue long enough, they'll just end up turning off on different streets you have connected and traffic won't be a problem as long as the connected streets are high density streets.

like every other problem, it is probably traffic. trade depots are slow to begin with and the gobal marketplace trucks come from outside of the region so they get held up at the highway bottleneck

No clue if this is really what fixed the problem, but just flushed my DNS and all the sudden I could connect to NA West 2. It had be showing the server online, and @SimCity on Twitter confirmed an hour ago it was up and ready after an upgrade. So out of just random trying things flushed my DNS and boom it let me in...

i tried that too mang,
it doesn't work for me.
they just keep coming and coming.
oh, those poor saps stuck in traffic.
plus a neighbor is trying to gift me something but the damn game keeps telling me the gift is "stalled due to traffic"
oh the humanity!

The only other thing I can think of is that you have a lot of your city communiting to another place to work or go to school and then there is a lot of traffic from them returning. Click on some cars individually and see where they are coming from and why.

Or maybe your city is just doomed to traffic and you should implement a toll on the highway to make a fortune :p

Finally got my TV production line up and... "Oh btw we fucked up we need to roll back LOLZ"

Fuck you EA.

Edit: My city is broken. Nine hours of work lost because of their incompetence.

Does anyone have a good resource / wiki with city upgrades & tech trees that you need to help your city grow?

Been stuck at 85k for awhile, maybe i just need to go ahead and re-zone industrial or something

Last time EA decided to roll back my city, I was losing 18k an hour, which was crazy because I was actually turning stuff off.

I rolled back, everything was still the same, all the services were still in place, I was losing only 7k an hour.

Something was defiantly wrong with that city. So it's not always a bad thing.

I'm not gonna bother for awhile. Back to Path of Exile for me. I'll monitor the threads though for sure to see what's been patched.

I can't be making a town putting hours into it then on Wednesday when I get a chance to play the server is down for "upgrading" or worse not be able to retrieve the town. When things are sorted and I know for sure I can play when I want to I'll give it another go. What a major disappointment this game has been for me.

So, I bought this to play with my friends on Oceanic 2... but, it's 'Full', and has been for the last 24 hours. I can't queue or anything - I just have to play elsewhere.

Am I going to be able to join the server, or does 'full' mean that it already has reached a limit of registered players?

If so, that is fucking ridiculous.

I put my trade depot to stop accepting local delivery for a while. Restarted it and it sells constantly now. Finally income, couldn't come soon enough.
