SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

Saw this over @ Reddit, a patch coming this Tues?

Here are two cities I'm working on this week... The bugs drive me crazy but one thing that I do enjoy about this game is the city planning.

We've got news for you one, dear mayors. The novelty of one big novelty, you're going to SimCity - update labeled 2.0! This update, which will be published soon (more on April 9 at 18:00), to include several critical fixes for which you have asked us most, and also some other improvements. For an idea of providing you with a complete overview of upcoming changes:

Tourism: Repairs unexplained fluctuations tourists - passenger numbers of tourists are now collected in a better way.
Casinos: Casinos adjusted so that it is more profitable gambling - to activate this enhancement is needed to demolish the old casino and replace them with new ones.
More casinos: Number of modules Sci-fi casino casino and neat rose to six.
Game in the region: bankrupt city may receive financial assistance from the city.
Education: Addressed an issue with buses that are stuck in secondary schools; existing schools are already corrected themselves.

Public transport: Tram first stops to come with a higher frequency of movement of passengers.
Public transport: Cities with population and public transport region now transmit the correct number of employees and customers.
Public transport: Circular vehicle now will not attempt to load other Sims, but leaves the garage.
Public transport: Buses neighbors do not often visit the surrounding cities and will focus more on serving passengers "home".
Processing center: Fix problems that caused that some cities do not process correctly.
Data maps: Maps are now displayed in a standard color, even if the player uses any of image filters (except for color blind mode).
HUD: The user interface now supports mode for colorblind correct color settings.
Tuning: Pure City resident now support "state failure".
Budget: Fixed bugs in monthly transactions that permit circumvention of the system.

The above changes certainly do not represent a complete list of new version 2.0. Expect further details on the day of the release, that is next week on Tuesday. Meanwhile, although the 2.0 update does not fix the loss of the gaming process and the "rollback", but very hard to solve these problems we work.
Because it is the first major update so we would like to warn you in advance that all game servers will be updated at the time of 2.0 to two hours off. Issuing updates for such a large number of players is not a simple task, so it's a necessary step. Neither was it easy to choose the right time for the release, according to statistics gaming servers but we worked out that at least players just damage the outage at 18:00. We believe that, given the list of repairs you will understand that you two hours waiting worthwhile.
For now, try the Cheetah speed by going back to the game again!
Thanks for your patience, mayors!
fuck yes. come to daddy you sexy sexy update you.

Ugh. A 2.0 release that doesn't address the bugs that cause cities to lose progress or just vanish. Awesome.

lol? Da fuck was that?

Good to see that it'll be out soon. I was gonna write up a review/suggestion list, but it might be better to wait until the patch hits since a lot of the things I take issue with might get fixed.

Hopefully.

In regards to the education thing...could it be a miswording of the description?

The tooltips say that each University extension provides a "regional" benefit, but in the latest blog post about University tips, it says the effects are "citywide".

http://www.simcity.com/en_US/blog/article/simcity-university-tips

I noticed that too. Tbh, my next city with a university is sure to have the business department and the medical one if it expands enough for that. They seem pretty boss if the benefit is indeed city- rather than regionwide.

So I recorded more strange shit...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VulDddtETzE&feature=youtu.be

Following this pedestrian shopper, there are a couple things astray.

1. Why is she "leaving the city" instead of going home? She's not considered a "visitor" according to the data layer.

2. Why did she, along with all the rest of those pedestrians, disappear into the fire station?

This is the only city in the region.
Does the fire station house ghostbusters?

So is this like a way for them to fix the traffic problems of the single-entrance/exit roads? Have people leave via municipal buildings? The fuck?

Why do my industries say they don't have anywhere to ship freight, even though they have trade depots empty nearby?

Also, why are my industries saying they can't find workers, when I have an army of people in the neighbouring town?

Very cool pics. Really like the bridge.

Still very puzzling how so many of these"bugs" were not known/fixed until after the game's release.

Seriously. Actually my more pressing concern is why the hell are residents of my own city leaving instead of going back to a residence within the city itself? I wonder if this could be one of the causes of having random residential buildings being unhappy for no clear reason. If the sims are "leaving the city" instead of going home, then they are not bringing the happiness tokens back to those buildings.

Why do my industries say they don't have anywhere to ship freight, even though they have trade depots empty nearby?

Also, why are my industries saying they can't find workers, when I have an army of people in the neighbouring town?

The tooltips sometimes have lag. If you observe them via the data layer, and they truly don't have any problems shipping freight, and if their overall happiness is good, they'll eventually show the that they love shipping freight. I think there's some kind of lag. Or...like..if the industry is unhappy because of a lack of workers or something, it'll tell you that it's a freight problem instead for some reason. Similar to when a building is on fire, but then gets abandonded due to "too much crime".

Commuting doesn't work very well in this game. Your best bet is to make sure that your own city is able to supply enough workers. Use the detailed tab on the population panel to see how many unfilled jobs you have, or unemployed sims you have and then balance accordingly. For me, I usually just say fuck it and only balance the low wealth sims.

So I'm observing this thing a little more closely. I have a high density apartment next to a high density commercial building.

A horde of shoppers leaves the apartment and goes to the store next door. Like they should. I wait, and then the horde of shoppers leaves the store, and they all have the "feeling happy leaving city" description. Instead of walking back to the residential building? Okaaaayyyy...

Then they proceed to all walk into the NISSAN LEAF™ charging station down the street and vanish.

Sense. It makes goddamn none.

Any thoughts on Cities in Motion 2 fellow SimCity players? I know it's more focused on transportation, but I'm considering picking it up as I'm done with SimCity now.

Still not low enough for me to suffer along with the rest of you, lol. Honestly at this point I'm not sure I'd pay $20 for it yet. The lackluster effort to fix the game up has me concerned about the future of Simcity 2013. I really thought they would have fixed more of the problems by now.

I'm not touching ever

This will be arguable, depending on who you speak to, but imo Diablo 3 still hasn't reached parity with its peers. And its been around for nearly a year now. I know D3 and SimCity are two very different games, but both games launched too early, were missing features, had disastrous launches due to server instability, queues, glacial development pace, came with always online and had the financial backing of huge companies. There really are a lot of similarities between the two games, despite the difference in genres.

I'm half expecting a fixed up definite edition of SimCity to hit the consoles.

Explains everything.

Now EA just needs to get over its embarrassment and start releasing all the SimCity DLC it's hiding because of the launch problems.

Purchase SimCity: Supernatural and unlock a data map showing paranormal activity in your city and region. Pre-order to receive the GhostBusters fire station DLC at no extra cost!

PS4 and Durango, I would hope. It would be severely hindered by developing 360 and PS3 versions.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. I bought D3 at launch and although I enjoyed it, I was also pretty let down by it. It is much better today than it was at launch, but D3 still has a very long way to go before it comes anywhere near it's predecessor's greatness. That said, I still play it now and then, although I quickly bore of it. IMHO it's Blizzards's worst game in over a decade, easily.

In many ways I think Diablo III is why I listened to my gut with Simcity and decided to wait until after launch to decide if I would buy it or not, and I'm glad I did wait. Both games have reminded me of the lesson I learned with Master of Orion III so many years ago: always wait until after release to buy a game, and always read reviews and opinions first.

I expect this game will never get better. They will make tweaks here and there but if they couldn't iron out many of these problems during the development of the game then there is no way we will get it in a patch. It is fundamentally bad in so many areas how do you they even begin to fix it.

This 2.0 patch was supposed to be major and I'm sorry but it doesn't look even the slightest bit "major," and because this patch took so long and is being perceived by them as being substantial we will not be seeing a follow up patch for months.

Unless cities can be at least 16 times bigger (4x in each direction), I'm not touching the game again no matter how many other additions and fixes they make.

If ye mighty can't look on my works and despair, then it's not worth my time.

That was not an official patch notes release rather it was translated from a Czech post of some sort. I'd wait for Maxis' official patch notes before making these kinds of declarations.

Well, the possible silver lining is that the Czech translation or leak or whatever wasn't complete. The patch notes are so under whelming that I'm almost sure the actual list of fixes is longer and more satisfying. Especially the traffic situation. The patch HAS to address the traffic to some degree. I mean that's like one of the most important parts of the sim that is broken, they surely couldn't ignore that for this patch.

It's a very fun game. It's more tedious than it needs to be in some aspects. I don't think you can actually go bankrupt in CiM2. But aside from that it presents a believable simulation that works as you feel it should. And given the similarities it's quite a bit different from CiM1. If you like either part you will like the other too and you can still play both without necessarily getting more of the same.

And considering the price CiM2 should be an auto buy for anyone even remotely interested in these kind of games.

We know from that Origin store leak that hot air balloon DLC is incoming.

I purchased CiM2 on Saturday and tried putting a couple of hours into it. I gave up because I couldn't get the buses to run at all after I established their lines, but I'll come back to it when I have some more time.

Bus line:
- Build depot
- Build stops
- Create new route, add stops to route, route must begin and end at a depot
- Buy buses at starting depot

Line should start running then, though you might want to fiddle with the time table a bit to get the line working the way you want.

Why dos the first post read like a press release? The stuff under the glassbox section is a complete fabrication right?

GlassBox simulates real city behavior: Cars exhibit authentic traffic patterns, water actually travels down pipes, and fire spreads in realistic radiuses. What you see,
is what we Sim. Your decisions affect the future of the city and the Sims living in it

Already done, went through that in the tutorial, of course.

Once all of that is done, the buses literally don't run in my game. I just sit there and watch the traffic situation worsen. At this point, I've chalked it up to a bug.

Never had that happen. How long (in game hours) did you let it run, after you setup your line? (I assume you did not close the line by clicking on the green/red dot that's on the line windows top right). Are other vehicles working for you? Are you really certain that the depot is the first and last stop?

That's not really false other than the routing algorithm for traffic sucking at launch (and similarly affecting the quality of things like water and power that also travel along the same routes to distribute resources).

The simulation right now may suck, but they're still simulating a real city. Previous releases have never been under a microscope like this, so we judge the rushed 1.0 against SimCity 4 Deluxe plus ten years of mods. I suspect we're going to know a lot better with the 2.0 release whether to have optimism about GlassBox going forward.
