SimCity |OT| It's not the simulation or city that matter, it's <parameter: string>

Damn I can't wait. My first city is going to be a MESS. So exciting.

Smiley's gonna profit off of me so hard when I run out of money to have garbage collection and/or ambulances. I can feel it.

Are you allowed to have cities in two different regions? I'd love to play with you guys, but I know that a few irl friends are going to set up a game. Or something, I actually have no idea how it works.

Honestly I think people should only play in the GAF regions if it's going to be their main city. A big part of multi-city play is working with your neighbors and seeing them develop their city. Would be kinda lame if someone was offline half the time.

If you don't have highways, it would be impossible for moving vans to construct new houses and stuff ;P

Yeah i got confused, didn't realize Highway wasn't listed at all.

K so I have water and a BIT of oil, but that's about it. I have all the transportation though, so that's good :D Let's see, our 4 cities have:

Stasis:
1. Lancaster Pointe - Desirability: 2 // Buildable: 80% // Sea, no Railroad // Coal: 0, Ore: 1, Oil: 3, Water: 2, Wind: 1
A pair of deep crude oil reservoirs rest on the shoulders of a proud promontory in this site. Spectacular ocean views provide the setting for a possible seaside resort town.

Smiley:
2. Tudor Isle - Desirability: 1 // Buildable: 100% // Railroad & Sea // Coal: 0, Ore: 0, Oil: 2, Water: 3, Wind: 1
The River Stuart is severed in two by the Isle of Tudor at the center of this site. A full crude oil deposit lies at the heart of Tudor Isle, annointing the industrious with ample oil dividends.

Georgc:
3. Yorkshire Cliffs - Desirability: 1 // Buildable: 100% // Railroad, no Sea // Coal: 3, Ore: 2, Oil: 0, Water: 2, Wind: 1
The dramatic cliffs of Yorkshire provide glorious summers for tourists, but make trading the coal and raw ore extracted from this site a greater challenge.

FearMyWrench:
4. Wessex Bend - Desirability: 2 // Buildable: 90% // Sea, no Railroad // Coal: 2, Ore: 3, Oil: 1, Water: 2, Wind: 1
Slight crude oil and raw ore deposits provide enough natural resources to begin an industry in this site. However, the real treasure of this site lies in its access to trading routes along the River Stuart.

quoting myself again:

Casino: Police, High-Population, Money, Hospital
High-Tech: Recycling, Education, Nuclear Power, Trading
Oil&Mining: Fire, Garbage, Sewage, Dirty Power
Tourism: Water, Shopping, Green Power

So guys, what do we do here. Looks like Stasis has the most Oil, with Georgc&Fear having the mining. Georg's is the only one who mentions Tourism, so maybe that'd be best? I have Train&Sea so I could go High Tech/Trading? Georgc Tourism? Fear Mining, Stasis Oil? And then someone else also goes Casino on top of that? Just let me know whatever you guys prefer. :p I'm just looking at the resources, then we can always juggle around the utilities afterwards.

I'll give you a loan! Only 30% Interest! :p Also if you do end up getting Oil you're probably gonna be the one with the highest profit margin LOL

I need to watch more beta vids since I didn't manage to access my beta invite in time. I basically don't know how to get TO oil. I don't start off with that as being accessible I'm guessing?

I like what the description of my area says about the seaside resort too. If I'm capable I'll try to have a part of that going on.

If it says oil, then it's underground. You can either plant the "oil specialization buildings" (aka drill baby drill), or leave it be.

Hmm, well I do want to have some sort of Casino going but since I have all of that Ore I guess I could do some of that too when I get stable enough. You have piles of water though Smiley so you should probably handle that for us. Or some at least.

So each city would need to have a specialization I'm guessing? And there's 8 specializations..
- Gambling
- Trade
- Electronics
- Petroleum
- Metals
- Culture

I'll be running Huckleberry Island as a population port town most likely. If possible Tourism would be a potentially fun one. Coal and Ore are in ready supply as well as obviously water. Not sure which I'll be heading for first. Happy to coordinate with anybody else in Discovery Delta I.

Overall I want to make mine kinda woodsy with a nice southern feel.

You don't "have" to have one, but it's definitely helpful. Also, once you pick a specialization, that doesn't exclude you from picking others, and some are similar and have good synergy. E.g. I can imagine Casino & Tourism going well together, Oil&Mining, Electronics&Trade.

Natural resources run out though, right? So if you're specializing into one it'd probably be a good idea to have a fall-back up and running, or at least a reserved budget to build into another area once you're running out of whatever it is you spec'd to.

And now I feel a strong urge to watch Scrubs.

I also found this off another forum, which has images, prices, requirements, etc of all the buildings/modules that you can create,
https://www.box.com/simcity/1

That's awesome, thanks!

I've had Water Towers in the Beta give me the note "will have resources for 300 months", and the game doesn't run THAT fast... and that was not the indication for the whole region, but only for that very specific spot the water tower was in. AND that was in Norwich Hills, which only has a Water Rating of 2, not even 3. So it's safe to assume that if your resource has a 2 or even a 3, you'll be able to go a LONG time before you have to branch out/relocate your mines/water towers/drills/etc, not to mention before it runs out. And by the time you see that "end" coming closer you should have enough time to create a backup, I'd say.

Just realized my city, Jugband Hills only has ore as a resource, lol useless city. :p

It's a lot of ore. You have a lot of water too. And decent wind.

Even for places without any resources, specializations like culture, trade, or education are viable too.

hmm, I want to be a green and education focused city in the long run . Not sure how to go about that though.

Borrow Power from a neighbour early on until you have enough money to be able to afford solar/wind power, I'd say. Then improve those via University?

Oh cool I got Spooner Plains in the first batch of cities. Not my first pick, but its good to have one. Can't wait to see how a large scale multiplayer version of the sim city with the regions will work in practice.

So based on how people have been talking we are all in little groups of four? So Felix Lighter, Mii, and Pandemic would be in my "group" ?

13. Washtub Fields - Desirability: 2 // Buildable: 80% // Sea, no Railroad // Coal: 3, Ore: 3, Oil: 0, Water: 3, Wind: 2
The Washtub Fields provide plenty of space for mayors to expand. Coal and raw ore deposits allow mayors to start a mining town and grow it into a massive mining metropolis. River access in this site is ideal for shipping metal resources.

14. Spooner Plains - Desirability: 1 // Buildable: 85% // Railroad, no Sea // Coal: 3, Ore: 0, Oil: 1, Water: 3, Wind: 2
Mayors seeking a site for a new mining operation will find much to like in Spooner Plains: ample coal deposits and river access for shipping coal to the Global Market. A small crude oil reservoir is available to run an Oil Power Plant.

15. Jugband Hills - Desirability: 1 // Buildable: 85% // Railroad, no Sea // Coal: 0, Ore: 3, Oil: 0, Water: 3, Wind: 2
At the base of Washboard Ridge, the Jugband Hills hold valuable raw ore deposits beneath the gently rolling hills. Mayors who build a mining business can ship their metals out from the shoreline to the Global Market.

16. Kazoo Basin - Desirability: 2 // Buildable: 90% // Railroad, no Sea // Coal: 1, Ore: 0, Oil: 2, Water: 3, Wind: 2
This site features a large reservoir of crude oil as well as a small amount of coal, perhaps enough for a Coal Power Plant. Views of a private inlet provide an ideal location for discerning home owners.

----
It seems our section is quite rich in coal, and a few towns have a bit of ore or oil. But mostly everything else is the same.

But otherwise in general not to sure what I'm thinking I should head towards which would be benifitual or what in general I want to head towards because I can.

Though mixing and matching is probably the way I'll go. Is there a post like the map guide which details the specifics of the specializations and what you need to achive each etc?

i5 @ 2.4ghz and nvidia gt540 good enough to play this bad boy on medium settings?

My intergrated graphics card (Intel 4000) can push close to Medium (if not more) fine, you will be fine.

I see KPJZKC took Sawyer's Crossing near me... but I barely recognize the guy XD I faintly remember him(?) from the Dorner thread. I don't think he's posted in this thread though.

It's groups of 4 that are connected by Highway, which, in the early game, is how everyone will be connected. Eventually, once we unlock and access trains and ferries, we can expand on that, but inititally it's 4 cities, and it's usually also clusters of 4 that are geographically close (pollution etc), so that's why we're talking groups of 4, yes.

You probably don't need to borrow all that much power in the beginning.

My opening build was always:

Spend all beginning funds on some roads, a water tower, and a wind power plant

Zone some of each

Take out a 25,000 loan

Expand until you get a department of finance

Take out a 100,000 loan

Pay back the 25,000 loan

Continue on.

After which point you can either add more wind turbines, or import power

Sawyers Crossing in Discovery Delta looks like it'll be an industrial powerhouse with all that coal, ore and oil. I much look forward to (hopefully) rolling in money.

I have Desirability 1, same as you :lol. If anything, either Stasis or Fear should go for it then. I think both Oil (Stasis) and Casino (Fear) could go well with Tourism? And they've both expressed interest in Tourism, so they can both do like a 1.5 specialization? :D Then you can do Mining instead of Fear, both works, since both of you have a 2 and a 3 in the 2 big mining resources. I can do High-Tech (and Water) and Trade with all the connections. I can also do Tourism if that's what we end up deciding on, I'm not entirely sure WHAT Desirability is for.. whether it's tourists or residents/commercial/industry or just generally attractiveness.

Ohhhhh, how you going to approach it? Go for a Tourism/Residential mix to play off Sawyers Crossings industry ?

Yeah, that was my thinking. I could potentially do some ore mining to trade back to Sawyer's Crossing since they're relatively low on that and Huckleberry has a 3 in that. What about you?

We should get metalmurphy to switch your region to mine :p

I'll be fine with the coal mining and in turn providing power for everyone. Since I will most likely be a dirt hole I could also handle trash and sewage. How would we start this? All start independent and as money is earned start moving utilities around?

Pretty much, yes. I think we'll all have to build the basic structures ourselves anyway to cover basic needs, but e.g. only the person responsible will build the "advanced" buildings as it becomes necessary. When someone becomes overwhelmed with sth they can always message the person responsible and be like "dude you need to build more sewage treatment plants" or sth.
