So these moves don't really make sense in terms of Electronic Arts growing the company. What if that's not what they're trying to do, though? There is an alternate scenario that I'm convinced has become far more plausible: EA wants to get bought.

Perhaps this is what that guy at Gamespy was referring too. EA being exclusive to anyone would be as big as those comparisons they mentioned.

The guy has some good points, but I don't believe in his theory. EA will just grow in the next years.

Outside of Madden and a few other sports franchises, I fail to see how EA would be better off being exclusive to any one company. I would assume the only company that could even afford them would be MS anyway, but if that did happen, developers of games like Burnout and LotR games (who aren't internal EA developers) would simply find other publishers who would allow them to be multiplatform. I would think, anyway.

Sony, Microsoft, AOL Time Warner, and several other companies could all afford to buy EA, and all three of those could make their money back pretty quickly.

Thats assuming EA would cost several billion dollars.

I think the guy has a pretty dumb theory though, EA hasn't peaked and definately isn't looking at a decline, so why would shareholders want to sell?

It seems that most of his argument for against their growth is not that they won't grow. Its that they won't be able to keep up the same rate of growth they have been. But I suppose I'm just a liitle to easily persuaded to certain theories.

EA AOL Time Warner... That would be something... Like the worst name ever.

I'm pretty sure the people behind EA want it to become a giant and not swallowed by one.
EA has plenty of room to grow and their core market will also expand for years to come.
