According to sources for
ComingSoon.Net, we'll be seeing 6 different Star Wars DVD releases on November 1st of this year. It looks like you can buy the final movie separately, buy the prequels together or buy all six films in a complete set. Whether or not this is the "definitive release" of the complete saga is unknown, but we can sure hope for a pile of new extras. Here's the list we were given:

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (Widescreen) 11/1
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (Full Screen) 11/1
Star Wars Episodes I-III (Widescreen) 11/1
Star Wars Episodes I-III (Full Screen) 11/1
Star Wars Episodes I-VI (Widescreen) 11/1
Star Wars Episodes I-VI (Full Screen) 11/1

Hopefully the ANH they release is the fixed version that works on all DVD players.

You know what would be really sweet? If Fox had a little special send out for all the people who already bought the prequels separately similar to what Newline did for LotR where they sent the boxset box. NOW THAT would be cool.

It could have a "NON-CG YODA!" sticker on it.

I'll give odds that Lucas changes the "Nooooo" from Vader in the DVD release. I bet it sounds not as stupid.

CG Yoda >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Stoned Ep1 puppet.

Hopefully this release of Ep1 will be the one with the CG Yoda and we won't have to wait until 2007 for that release.

And before the haters start in, they aren't replacing the Yoda puppet in V and VI because they specifically tried to make the CG one like the puppet and spent a lot of time getting the "ear shake" just right so it'd look like the original puppet.

Perhaps they should replace all the actors with CG characters for the 2020 release.

I never had a problem with the noooooo, it was the way he was moving, like his arms and legs were stone and he could only move his torso :lol

Well, he has a couple awkward steps, but it's because he's yanking his feet away from the bindings.

I was pretty close to buying 4-6 at Circuit City a few days ago, and then this thought entered my mind:

"Lucas likes money, I bet he's gonna make a set with all six movies."

Star Wars Episodes I-VI (Widescreen) 11/1

So, yeah. Gonna wait for that instead.

One of the tidbits I liked was talking about lip articulation. They could have given him a lot more, but they focused on giving him the articulation that Oz could give him in puppet form. Pretty cool, but very subtle detail.

I just know he's going to fix stuff for this release,I'll have to buy all six if I want the fixed Episode 1 yoda and fixed Episode IV.

Too bad, the puppet is messed up in a lot of ways. The eyes are never aligned right, one's always in another direction. It makes him look less there, less aware. Not a good trait for an all wise jedi master. Also, the color's off, the head shape doesn't look the same :-/ I thought the CG Yoda rocked. Textures like the inside of his ear and the wringles looked a hell of a lot better. And his movement. But whatever George, turn your original films upside down with special releases, but keep something you could improve 'cause you're always right.

Well I think it's more up to Frank Oz if it'd be OK to replace the puppet and he was apparently very proud about what Coleman and his team did with the CG one so he may suggest to George that they put the CG puppet in V and VI because it turned out so good.

Hell, they already have a rough version of the Episode V scenes that they did as a proof of concept to George back before they started on Episode II.

I've recently purchased IV-VI and plan to get I & II pretty soon. I'm not too worried about relatively minor details like that. I mean, given HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and whatever formats of the future, I'm sure the discs I'm getting now won't be the final, definitive versions I'll ever get.

EDIT: Though yes, Ep 1 Yoda looks significantly weird.

This is Lucas, there will NEVER be a final definitive version.

Except the day he dies, I'm grabbing my "definitive" that day. Somehow it'll be like a day of celebration, and all the fans of the original versions can come out of hiding.

You forget that Lucas had children. I'm sure "Continue to fuck with the movies" will be in his will.

Well, yeah, that too. It's like with a vehicle or computer component... sure I could wait a few months and get an improved version, but then at that point I could also consider waiting even more for the next version... it'd be a never ending cycle.

A misguided fan will add in a scene of celebrations on Earth to the ROTJ SE montage.

No there is another. HD-DVD. or blueray or whatever. Hell even a D-Theatre version. But a 10080i or 1080p is going to happen.

I hear he replaced Ron Howard with a more life-like CG render.

Mana, didn't Rick just say in a chat a few days ago that we wouldn't be seeing a saga DVD release till at least 2006?

The Oompa Loompa doesn't know what he's talking about.

Figures. I hope these reports turn out to be true (I don't see why they wouldn't be. The saga on DVD, and then the next platform would have the updated 3D saga).

I heard a bizarre rumor that the way he acted was exactly like the original Frankenstein movie, and it was done that way as a tribute. Doesn't make any sense why they'd do that though.

Well, I'd certainly think there's grounds for a similarity between the situations of a bulky man created from various dead body parts walking his first steps, and a bulky man created from a nearly-dead trunk and head and various robotic parts walking his first steps.

It was an homage, albeit poorly done, to Frankenstein.

I just need to pick up the PT boxset, and I'm set. I never even got a DVD of TPM, my family didn't have a DVD player back then, and my mom didn't bother looking for the widescreen version of AOTC, so very meh. Also, no little tricks, figurines, keychains, special bonus DVDs, or what have you, will get me to buy the entire trilogy set, mainly the original trilogy... again. The 95 VHS tapes, and OT DVDs are enough for me.

In addition in the first post ManaByte mentioned it not working on all DVD players, but that's pretty self-explanatory... except for specifics on which DVD players it won't work on.
