Today Skybound Entertainment released the following statement:

As of today, we have terminated our contract with Starbreeze Studios and will discontinue all efforts on OVERKILL'S THE WALKING DEAD. Our creators and their stories are the core of Skybound, and since 2014 we have worked hard to expand the world of The Walking Dead into an exceptional Co-op Action FPS. We did our best to work with Starbreeze and resolve many issues that we saw with the game, but ultimately OVERKILL'S THE WALKING DEAD did not meet our standards nor is it the quality that we were promised. We are exceedingly sorry to our fans and share their disappointment in the game. We remain dedicated to providing our fans with the most premium quality content we can offer, and will continue to look for alternative video game options for the IP.

Seems like a mercy kill, but the playerbase has been totally shafted here. Deluxe editions were bought with expectations of continual updates, what a waste of a lotta money. If Starbreeze and Overkill make it out alive, maybe they could retool what they've developed.

Hey, if Starbreeze goes under, do you see Overkill getting bought by another company? Payday seems too big an IP to die.

Sad but not unexpected news.

Skybound knew the quality of the game before it was released but still let it be released.
Hmmmmmm

Overdue. This thing sounded pointless from day one. People seem to think TWD games were popular, when it was just the first season, and that was 7 years ago.

Hmmmmmm
And Kinda Funny hosted the launch party along with a dozen streamers pretending to enjoy the game.

Everyone involved has no integrity.

It was all about making a quick buck.

Skybound should approach Creative Assembly(Total War series and Alien: Isolation) and see what they can do with the IP.

That's too bad. Starbreeze was once a great company. It's pretty brave of skybound to release a statement like that though, I feel like it opens them up to some liability.

Walking dead saints and sinners is the best VR game I've played thus far. It's just a master peace.
It just lacks any form of multiplayer which ain't a bad thing

Is this the replacement for the multiplayer though:
