Skyfall Theme by Adele

Haven't listened yet. Won't til its officially released in 90 minutes.

Listening the The Best of Bond right now in anticipation.

Song is decent, doesn't strike me as being particularly special though.

I really dislike the "Skyfall is where we start" line - sounds hokey and out of place. Could definitely do without those backup singers as well.

Man (still listening to TBoB), fuck you chumps who were talking shit about Tom Jones' Thunderball. Godly.

It's decent, but quite boring and sounds like an attempt to do a generic old school Bond song. I was expecting something different.

AND HE STRIKES (BA BA BA BA BA) LIKE THUNDERBALL

I swear, if Weird Al wrote it and had Tom Jones sing it, you'd all be laughing LAUGHING at it. It is so corny and is probably the weakest Bong song until The Man With the Golden Gun came out and lowered the bar even more! Or, maybe it tied with Diamonds are Forever.

From Mr Barry, himself:
John Berry said:
"So I thought, instead of using the word 'Thunderball,' why don't we write a song called 'Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.' Everybody fell in love with it. So I recorded it. I recorded it with Dionne Warwick. We recorded it with Shirley [Bassey].

"And then the powers-that-be at United Artists in New York, literally two weeks before the movie opened, phoned up and said, 'We need that Goldfinger thing. We need that title over the radio. And "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" isn't doing it. We need "Thunderball." ' So I wrote a theme that facilitated the word. And Don [Black] then wrote the lyric. He then called Tom Jones. ... I don't think anybody really analyzed what the hell he was singing about. And I still don't know what the song is about to this day. But we were given that problem, and we had to live with it."

Speaking of songs and Bond and stuff, the Apple/OSX/iOS writer John Gruber and his podcast The Talk Show once watched all of the Bond movies and spent about 30-60 minutes talking about each film. I clipped these segments and made an audiobook of them with the Bond songs mixed in that totals about 16 hours in length. I can upload it and post it tomorrow if anyone wants it.

How dare you! Thunderball, DAF, MWTGG are all classics
You forget they were all released in a different era - say what you will about Tom Jones - but don't you dare speak about Queen Shirley!!!!

Oh and that upload would be neat :)

The worst Bond theme, bar none, is Lulu's atrocious The Man With The Golden Gun. Fitting, as the movie is atrocious.

Its a shame, as Lee is perfect as Scaramanga. Brilliant villain, stuck in a shitty film.

Same as Max Zorin.

As caviler Bond fan, I appreciate Royale a whole lot and QoS was a POS but I am seriously loving everything they've shown of Skyfall from Adele to Mendes.

Exactly. The worst Bond gets the worst movie with the worst song. TMWTGG is without value. It is awful from beginning to end. Even the Golden Gun in Goldeneye 64 is awful.

I know people (myself included), like new acts for each film, but on the other hand, it would have been cool if Bassey had done all of them.

QoS is actually really good. It's not great, but it's good.

Up to "Nobody Does It Better" now. One of the best.

For the longest time, I didn't even realize that "Nobody Does it Better" was a Bond theme.

The local radio station where I grew up (in the middle of nowhere) played it a lot, and even with the phrase "the spy who loved me" embedded in the lyrics, I never made the connection.

Not until I saw the movie, that is.

It's the only Bond theme that has a life of its own outside of Bond. I've seen it used for all manner of occasions.

I think QoS is ok. Just ok. Not good and not bad.

For perspective, how do you feel about the two Dalton movies, For Your Eyes Only, and Diamonds are Forever?

Yeah me too, its not bottom tier like Diamonds Are Forever but it certainly isn't good imo.

I'm split on the Dalton movies, I LOVE "TLD" but I feel like "LTK" is also just ok.

FYEO is one of only 2 Moore films I actually enjoy...

( I know you weren't asking me lol )

Hey, the shakey cam sucks, but Olga's hot, Bond's badass, and there's some great sequences. It's theme song sucks though.

I haven't seen the Dalton movies since I was a little kid, but I remember loving them. Haven't seen the other two.

Ok, for the people who say QoS is good and great, what film would you immediately rank above it and below it? What Bond movie would you say is in similar quality to QoS?

I don't remember it clearly since it has been a couple of years since I've seen it, but I remember it having a great middle, but a muddled beginning and a lousy ending.

Not big on the backing vocals but love it otherwise.

On another note, QoS has the disadvantage of following a fucking amazing movie, but it's incredibly fun to watch.

CR's above it.

Die Another Day/Tomorrow Never Dies Below It.

Everything else I've seen evens out. I've only seen Dalton/Brosnan/Craig
