Where are the shadows?
None of the props appear to have actual shadows...

I meas that was their argument for developing for HD-Consoles instead of the Wii. This industry is thinking completely against my taste
Sad....
Every object has dynamic shadows.balladofwindfishes said:Where are the shadows?

What makes you think anyone in this whole industry has enough time money or manpower to give you what you want?

The room has a lot of light in it, and that combined with the ambient room light and that big chandelier means shadows aren't very visible. You can see shadows under the tables and other objects but they aren't very visible thanks to the correct penumbra. The most obvious shadow in that scene is the huge shadow cast by the chandelier onto the underside of the arch. Wherever there are two dynamic shadows they appear to cancel eachother out in a fairly unrealistic way though.balladofwindfishes said:http://i.imgur.com/VbHBc.jpg
that's the screenshot I was mostly talking about
Look at the tables in the back... basically no shadows at all, which even under the most awkward of lighting would show up a lot more, and especially in a room that relies on heavy candlelight.
but the room shouldn't be heavy with light.MrBig said:The room has a lot of light in it, and that combined with the ambient room light and that big chandelier means shadows aren't very visible. They lights their cells with ambient light that doesn't come from real sources. I don't like it, but that's how it is.balladofwindfishes said:but the room shouldn't be heavy with light.
A room that relies entirely on windows and candlelight would never be that bright and cleanly lit. There should be a yellowish tone on the entire thing, and deep, heavy shadows in places where the candle light does not hit.
The animation and combat shown in the videos so far are leaps and bounds over Oblivion and Bethesda's other games, the creature designs (the dragons in particular) are excellent and the environments look fantastic.Ceebs said:There really has been nothing shown that would imply that it is. All the people super excited are the same ones that were able to look past all the problems with Oblivion and have a good time. Call me cautiously skeptical and will probably enjoy fooling with all the mods more than the actual vanilla game.
You are wrong, but that's your opinion.Einbroch said:The game is looking uglier and uglier. Still not ugly, but :lol at this looking anything like the bullshots and trailers.

GhaleonEB said:Not to mention the increase from one dungeon designer in Oblivion to eight for Skyrim, with a greater emphasis on unique dungeons. As one who loves a good dungeon, that was music to my ears.

Uriah said:Have you not seen Grand Theft Auto 4 and Just Cause 2?
Derrick01 said:I have. One is almost completely empty of content and the other has tons of copy/paste scenery and settlements. Neither have to juggle hundreds of npc schedules, dungeons, items, etc.
Uriah said:Your right, but he was arguing that Skyrim was the best looking open world game he has seen.
Valhalla said:I just wish this game had some kind of MP... Something like demon souls MP would be amazing..stupid bastards.
Evolved1 said:Not even usually against MP but this post grates on my nerves.
Valhalla said:They could just have the OPTION of turning MP off... Your problem with MP is now fixed, and i have the option of enjoying a game with my friends.
And now the SP game is drastically worse due to the resources that were diverted away from the SP game in order to give you the option of MP. I'll pass on that I think.Valhalla said:They could just have the OPTION of turning MP off... Your problem with MP is now fixed, and i have the option of enjoying a game with my friends.
Turning it off? It would be an extraneous feature not a core feature.Valhalla said:They could just have the OPTION of turning MP off... Your problem with MP is now fixed, and i have the option of enjoying a game with my friends.

Derrick01 said:Your option just cost the devs more money and less time to focus on the meat of the game. Not to mention bug testing, they can't even handle the single player in that regard.
They should never waste 1 second thinking about putting multiplayer or co op into elder scrolls. There's no reason for it with the billion other multiplayers out there.
Valhalla said:Theres def. a reason for it, to make it a much more fun game to play. Oblivion with a friend? Yes please. Duels with other players? Yes.
I understand it would be some what hard..i guess...Would it really be that hard to implement co op? I dont see how it would be that much harder than making a AI buddy....Just make that character controllable and there we go.
I dunno im not a dev, so i dont know how hard it would be, but dont act like it couldnt be awesome.
Demon souls proved it could be awesome. And they could to it here as well, have a random player join your server and be in your dungeon, and you have to deal with that character.
They could limit it to just dungeons if need be, for some reason i cant think of, but be able to invite your friends to help you go through a dungeon with you, making the difficulty harder but better loot, theres a lot of options to implement MP. And it could make the game a lot more fun.
