I highly doubt it. I don't know why, I haven't played any of these games. But from the look of things, and based on the hype-o meter, Uncharted 3 is going to rock the gaming world once again.

I'm talking about only metacritic scores and i highly doubt that Uncharted 3 can beat this.

Oh don't underestimate Zelda scores.

Same thing happens with every big game. "meh, I'll wait for the ____ review. Early reviews are always positive/this publication HAS to give it a good score".

And then the game comes out and it's always 9's and 10's across the board. STFU and get hyped people.

Usually yes, but there are some anomalies like dragon age 2. Although how anyone would doubt a new zelda game is a good game is silly. But these early reviews almost never takes up things people might see as drawbacks in games so they are often kinda crappy for consumers.

Other ONM UK scores (via gamerankings) for reference:

DKCR: 91% // Avg: 88% // +3
Other M: 91% // Avg: 78.5% // +12.5
Galaxy 2: 97% // Avg: 97% // +0
NSMBWii: 96% // Avg: 88% //+8
Galaxy: 97% // Avg: 97% // +0
Spirit Tracks: 91% // Avg: 87% // +3
Phantom Hourglass: 95% // Avg: 89% // +6
Brawl: 95% // Avg: 93% // +2
Prime 3: 94% // Avg: 90% // +4
Twilight Princess: 97% // Avg: 94.5% // +2.5%
(Avg. Bias: 3.5%, removing Other M as outlier: 2.5%)

Unfortunately aside from the Galaxy games their scores are on the higher side compared to average review scores. Anyway ~95% is pretty damn good even if the bias does carry over to Skyward Sword.
Nevertheless I'm still optimistic that the game will deserve the score.

they got and beat the review version over a month early? doesn't that like, never happen with nintendo games? i'm surprised to see this thread so soon.

But their audience is also not exactly objective - they love Nintendo things, so they are likely to agree with a higher-than-average score for a good game in a series they are already proved to enjoy.

It's not bias, nor fan-boy behaviour, to prefer one developer's games to another's. That's taste.

Everyone gets so hung up on objectivity in reviews, when a little bit of subjectivity - 'I like most Zelda games and they are saying this is the best one' - can be very useful.

You're right, bias isn't necessarily bad, I merely used it as a statistical term.

only 2 games till now i really consider GOTY-material (Dark Souls and Xenoblade). No doubt in my mind Skyward Sword will even beat those two.

can't wait for the best Zelda evaaa~

Yeah, I think we can safely ignore anything ONM has to say about Zelda games.

Really excited, but no idea how I am going to play all of these games. I'll be backlogged into Q1 2012.

lol

that's nothing kiddo ;P i'm EASILY backlogged until 2021 and i'm NOT even joking in the slightest here :(

There better be a chart saying which ones you already have from which locations.

It wasn't *explicit*, but if you paid attention, you could narrow down your search areas in Twilight Princess - each male/female pair came from the same location, so if you'd found one, you knew the other would be in the same area.

Let's hug it out. We'll get through this with a lot of strong coffee my friend!

Don't need reviews to know that the game is going to be great... but yeah ok cool^^ I guess it's comforting for people who had doubts? I usually don't need the press to go buy a game (see a movie, books etc...), never really understood that, I mean with the years don't you know what you like, want etc, it's like instinct, of course I'm always interested in to what people have to say, but the press... Anyway... HYPE!!!

Back in the olden days when I was young and still read print mags, in the time when you went to the outhouse to poopeth, ONM was still called NOM and before that NMS, and I pretty much always agreed with their scores. Back then they weren't a mag that were uncritical of Nintendo products. Don't know how it is now, just wanted to post in this topic that my sword is definitely pointed skywards as a result of this review score.

The only review I guess I would really pay attention to is Eurogamer's. The rest will either hype it up because it's Nintendo, or score it low because lol waggle SD.

Or you can read a review or two and decide if they are corrupt by the text itself, not the site.

I haven't played TP since it came out in 06, but iirc, it took me about 37 hours to beat the main quest (without even attempting to get any side quests). Of course, that number's slightly inflated by a few hours cause I kept dying in the Ice mansion, so 35 hours seems about right.

But the length is not something I'm concerned about. What I'm hoping for is that the pacing, music, and new gimmicks are much improved, and that there's a better sense of cohesiveness throughout the whole game.

And no tear collecting!

Oh gee, 95 for PH
As if a month early review wasn't damning enough

I'll wait for a credible review

Fraid so. It's a little hard for me to say whether it's worse or better than in TP. There are some things they do that's an improvement, and then they have something in there that cancels that out. :/

Yerp. I don't know much about it (been avoiding SS info for awhile now) but while it seems to be an improvement it still looks to break the flow of the game. Can't say for sure though- but damn did I hate the tear collecting in TP on my second and onwards playthroughs...

NOA twittered that Miyamoto mentioned a 'second quest' for Skyward Sword during the pre-TGS event, but the official translation of the event (by NOA as well, no less) shows Miyamoto said nothing of the sort.

So I'm leaning towards nothing.

I think it might be a misunderstanding of the (already-mentioned, but some people might want to stay *absolutely* spoiler free)
revisiting old dungeons
.

Most likely. He mentions a few things regarding the length of the game, adventuring, and what you mentioned, and I'm guessing they got their wires crossed.

Bug collecting again?

Yes. You can use them to brew/upgrade potions.

Looks like every game this year is the best game ever made.

I'm not going to take the 98 at face value. This is ONM after all and bloated scores from them are almost expected.

That said, if you think about it in terms of comparison with other games, the fact that SS scored better than other top Wii titles has to say a lot. If anything scores better than Mario Galaxy then you know it has to be a triumph of some sort, regardless of the number.

They never said THE best game. They always said it's "One of the best games ever made" :P

Guys, are you really getting excited over a Zelda review from ONM?

Nah, I don't think most of us would have cared even if it got a 90. Pretty sure we're just waiting for some more credible reviewers. Like Gerstmann.

Official magazines are always high scores for big releases, so I'll largely ignore it. That said, I do expect this to be fantastic and potential GOTY.

That's the highest score they ever gave, of course im.

does anyone know how the control for swimming is like? does it control like flying, like only using motion with the remote to move, instead of using the control stick?

Just saw the scans.

Verdict:

It's not something we say lightly, but the Zelda series really has never been this good.

Second Opinion:

"You can tell Nintendo have spent many years honing this to near-perfection. More than worth the wait"
