While you opinion is entirely valid, I personally feel that both A Link to the Past and Majora's Mask are superior Zelda experiences (the first representing the pinnacle of 2D gameplay and the second of 3D). I would agree that Wind Waker is very pretty, however, and is an enjoyable game in its own right.

Come at me brother. :)

Its heart was in the right place, but it didn't have the development time it needed and it shows.

LttP is still the best, most complete, most groundbreaking Zelda game. Including the original.

Man I love that game so much. Don't understand a lot of the hate.

- The horrible overworld and slow travel method.
- Some people found the duets frustrating.

Outside of that, it's a pretty good game.

While I completely understand the justification of your opinion and your call to arms for brothers to disagree with you, I disagree with your viewpoints. However, I greatly respect your contribution of your opinion and viewpoints, and hope that we can get along in future engagements here on NeoGAF.

There is a rumor in Gamespot that will get 7.5/10 from IGN

Is there any ground to this ?

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topi...-give-zelda-ss-a-7.5---swm-fall-issue?page=12

"RichIGN's Twitter
:
Zelda anyone? I'm so giving this a 7.5"

It only references a twitted message, so it could be fake

Fake. IGN was pulling a prank on one of their people. They took one of the Skyward Sword cases on display at Gamestop, brought it back at IGN HQ and pretended it was their review copy. The target then opened the case to see that it wasn't Skyward Sword.

Really looking forward to playing this, no review copy for me I will be day one like the rest of you guys. Zelda is up there with Mario as my favorite Nintendo icon, Wind Waker was probably the game I enjoyed the most from recent memory - hope this can top it and all signs seem to point to yes.

Zelda, my favourite game series since........well the original NES. For some reason I wasn't that excited by the announcement of this one, maybe because I barely play my Wii anymore but wow. 10? Really? Hype rising.

It be fake dawg. Rich is just playing the the 8/10 haters is all.

I never believed it was for real anyway, just wanted to clear it out

did not actually read the twitter conversation, since there was no link in Gamespot for it

I've been trying to finish it before Skyward Sword comes out.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal left to get through, but unfortunately it's a microcosm of the worst elements of the game:

- Dull and tedious stealthing around the Spirit Tower
- Uninteresting and restrictive rail ridin'

But the overworld theme makes up for it.

I was just thinking, I don't think there's ever been another game series like this, where opinions have been spread so widely across it about which is the best. Between ALttP, LA, OoT, MM, WW (and maybe TP, I've noticed support for it's been rising recently. Just got to wait for the backlash for that one to die down fully I think), each game seems to have a fairly similar number of people saying that it's the best one. Which is pretty damned impressive.

However, anyone who isn't saying MM is wrong :D

That's ok. Since the internet doesn't convey inflection too well, I wasn't sure how you were stating it is all.

Wind Waker is my least favorite of the 3D Zeldas. Too easy and the dungeons are forgettable. I liked the sailing but the overworld felt empty. That Triforce hunting crap was also really stupid.

I've tried to commit myself to 100%ing at least one Zelda game before SS comes out, but I keep getting distracted by other games. And I can't choose WHICH Zelda game, for that matter. :(

Stuck between OoT 3D, Wind Waker (lol no that'd take forever), and Twilight Princess. Maybe Link's Awakening, too.

Just preordered the limited edition.

Haven't played a lot of wii games in the last years (last one was super mario galaxy) because my Wii was modded and I know there have been a lot of firmware updates trying to stop modding/homebrew and I couldn't bother to do all the necessary updates.

Link's Awakening might be a bit old. Twilight Princess is kind of a melting-pot of the series, I'd suggest you to go with this one.

Old? Wtf, you take that back!

To answer his question, he should play Links Awakening (its short!) and then Wind Waker up to the you know what quest.

I'd discourage anyone from playing WW, he'll be bored to death before reaching the knowknowwhat quest.
Seriously unless he wants to play the most easy Zelda game ever, then yeah.
For 3D Zelda he should go for OoT or TP, 2D Zelda he can actually try the Oracle games.
I mean they're cleanly divided between the puzzle (Ages) and action (Season) part and have some neat features.
Then again they're full of throw back to other Zelda so that might not be a good idea.

German GamePro gave the game 93%

Cons-

Aliasing, low detailed textures
Samples instead of voices (regarding voice acting)
No overworld map

The graphics con is a bit harsh imo. Shouldn't it only be compared to other games on the same system imo, not the HD twins, and thus low detailed textures are everytwehre on wii.

WW is up there with Super Mario Galaxy as the most joyous and charming experience in a game world you can get. For a series where its incredible charmingness I think is one of the greatest selling points, I can see why people think WW is the best Zelda (I agree up to a point too).

Apart from the sparseness of the overworld/towns and the fetch quest, what annoyed me greatly about the game though was the schizofrenic story. Throughout you were playing this Disney cartoon adventure story, and then towards the end it suddenly went completely overboard into heavy melodrama with gods and Destiny, and Link and Zelda never getting to be together or Zelda not getting to be anything etc. I remember sitting there going, wat, and as a result I can't really remember how it ended either. My recollection of WW stops when you enter that spire castle thing.

Sorry, yeah i meant the german GamePro.
Source is a guy who has subscribed the magazine and found it this morning in his mail.

its a 10 site big test with a gold cover.

if i remember correctly, they gave TWW 93%, TP 95%, UC3 94%, Metroid Prime 1 92%.

Their rating system isnt as inflationated as others.

I love that about a good adventure game. The beginning should be completely cheerful, happy, and beautiful. The ending should be cold, dark, and EPIC. Zelda has always nailed this feeling and that's why it is one of the best examples of its genre even today.

the wind waker's end sequence was great. it was about letting go of the past and making the future. bittersweet, sure, but not overly dark.

being able to create that contrast to an even greater extent is why i'll always prefer little boy link to big boy link.

Probably an allegory for how the development team felt when they were making it... ie. let go of Ocarina of Time, we're making new worlds and new adventures now. Its an unknown world out there, they will look and feel different. The reaction they got from half the fanbase was: wahhhhh make ocarina of the lord of the rings of time. I really wish they hadn't rushed it for Christmas, they had Sunshine and Prime out at around the same time after all -- it could have been the LTTP of the 3D games.

The cons seem pretty irrelevant in light of this.

EDIT: Well, yeah, except for the last one.
