GamesTM just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about gaming culture (I'm an expert), but honour and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like movie critiquing where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw Zelda over on your review, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is gamers, after reading this review, are not going to want to read any of GamesTM's reviews again, nor will they read anymore of their articles. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but GamesTM has alienated an entire market with this move.

GamesTM, publicly apologise and delete that review out of existence, or you can kiss your business goodbye.
LOLs me everytime.

Something tells me..if 9/10 isnt the lowest score. Shits gonna get real ugly. I'm talking Tingle in a birthday suit ugly.

There is no easier way to generate hits than scoring a zelda mainline title lower than 9/10. You can always count on Nintendo Fans to be ready for "war".

If the UC3 situation has taught us anything, if your super hyped game scores below a 9 then its a failure or some fatty at the review site got it wrong.

I guess even that is dependable.

Both Psychonauts and Legacy of Kain: Defiance had terrible control, but both are among my most beloved experiences and I didn't have much trouble with the camera and control.

SMG, being still one of my most beloved games as well, made me angry not so infrequently because of the camera though.

MDK on the other hand, was unplayable for me almost solely due to horrible controls.
the camera in smg was completely infuriating without ruining the game, true. i don't recall psychonauts controls being particularly dreadful, but it's been a while - i had a great time with the game.

i feel the bar is set high for the controls though. this is the first (and probably only ever) "aaa" wii game that's going to be created for both heavy motion control, as well as long play sessions (i might be missing some, but i can't think of any off-hand). it's the game that's tasked with validating the promised potential of the system as far as motion-controls for longer experiences (pointer controls having been solidly justified on this front already).

...and i'm always whining about cameras:) this is a problem that 3d third-person games haven't licked yet.

All of this "irony" you people are perpetuating in this thread is gonna blow up in our faces just like it did in the Uncharted 3 thread.
except skyward sword is an actual good game, amirite?

Nah, because of the Wii-specific gameplay I think most were a lot more cautiously optimistic with this. Of course that changed after Edge's 10, but unlike TP and Uncharted 3, people are expecting some flaws.

I totally see your point now, I actually suggested the OT to be: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Waggle, lol.

I thought you meant only as an objecting and non-situational condition; but I agree, it'll be totally against the premise of the game if it doesn't get the control right.

And I believe if it doesn't get the camera right, it'll effect the control unintentionally anyway.

I'll be spending the entire week of my birthday playing this non-stop.
And screw Thanksgiving, Zelda's more important.

When is your birthday?

I am anticipating more your OT than the game itself...

I hope you're just not expecting a MGS4 type topic. My topics are very spartan, they're generally made so that even the 56k user can enjoy them. So, less graphics oriented and more information/text summarized in succinct little segments so that people's appetites are wet instead of everything being spoiled in one huge megapost.

I'll probably stop just long enough to make a thread about how I'm officially old or something.
Bout time I made a second thread on GAF anyway.

My birthday is on the 17th, so it will be a very nice belated birthday gift to myself.

Sadly, I'll only have a few days to work on it before heading home for the Thanksgiving weekend.

Found a new review. If it's ok I'll post the source but I'd like to get approval from a mod before.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: SKYWARD SWORD
An epic adventure that wasn’t

I was eager to try the new mainline Zelda title, as many of you are. I’m a huge fan of the series, have been since the very first title released on the Nintendo NES. Recently I was surprised to find a UPS package waiting for me at the door. I had completely forgotten a review copy of Zelda: Skyward Sword was headed my way. The timing was perfect : I’d introduce this new website with a review of what is considered to be an AAA videogame title. So I’ve dedicated the past few days delving into this new quest imagined by Eiji Aonuma.

One of the first things you will notice is that the game doesn’t feel right. I struggled with the Wii controls more than you could imagine. It becomes appalling especially when you control one of the fat dodos; just wait until you move the controller up and down like a fool trying to follow your friends mounted on dumb birds. From a design point of view you could argue it’s original but it really isn’t. To me it was clear Nintendo watched Harry Potter recently and decided Quidditch would be great in Skyward Sword, except without the thrill of hunting or competiting.

As all the 3D titles, this new Zelda fails to deliver a real challenge. Right off the bat you start the game with six hearts – that’s twice what you had in Ocarina of Time! And you thought the new generation of gaming wasn’t made of pussies and whiners. Well guess what Skyward Sword is actually THE EASIEST title in the whole series! Contrary to popular belief I was able to waggle my way through most fights, and the A.I. is seriously bad. Monsters are predictable, bosses are a walk in the park and don’t even get me started on the “dungeons”. You have fond memories of the Water Temple? Well cherish them because you are never going to get another dungeon with an equal level of complexity. Everything is barebones, big rooms with few puzzles and obvious paths. It’s like the level designers didn’t feel like being involved in this project.

I was also pretty disappointed by the story. I like to describe it as a poor attempt at romance. But how can you infuse love, friendship and courage into a lifeless marionnette? Link is far from an interesting character in Skyward Sword. This voiceless puppet just cares about his own good; the game fails at creating a bond between you and the princess Zelda. It killed a lot of the interest I had with this game, as the trailers implied pretty much the contrary. In the end it’s just like before; unoriginal plot unfolds and you must slay monsters in dungeons. Nintendo knew the game would be disappointing so the developers added stuff like upgradable weapons and shields to give a sense of accomplishment to the player. When you realize the best items in the game can be obtained quite easily with minimal farming of various materials, you start losing all hope for future Zelda titles.

Zelda: Skyward Sword suffers from being on a console that can’t do HD. Its colorful design is only there to have to forget how bad it looks under its skin. Low polygon counts, ackward animations, the list goes on. I’m not too much of a graphics whore but come on, you can’t have a mainline Zelda looking that bad. I guess we will have to wait for the Wii U version just like we had to wait for the Wii version of Twilight Princess to get a decent game. I’m not done yet. I feel like there’s so much to talk about, but one thing I absolutely need to cover are the new items. Before you had elemental arrows, lens of truth, pictograph box and other great stuff. Now you are stuck with a flying beetle or a vacuum to name the worst offenders. Is this bizarro world or Zelda? I guess Aonuma is getting too old for this and even Miyamoto couldn’t save this game.

In a nutshell what you get with Skyward Sword is a huge disappointment. I was very happy to get a review copy but after three hours I had lost all hope already. Just wait for the very stupid plot twist too, if you thought Aeris dying in Final Fantasy VII was impactful the same can’t be said about Zelda. Though she doesn’t really die in the same way you can imagine, it just looked awfully cheesy and copy-pasted from other more successful games. Also when you realize the world beneath the Skyloft is just Hyrule from OOT (in the past of course) you start wondering if any creativity is left at Nintendo. To me where the shit hits the fans happens halfway through the game; your stupid, robot-like sidekick a la Navi actually transforms into a real character and she sacrifices herself in order to stop Ganondorf. Yes, he’s back, he’s young and he is the last boss, AGAIN. If you are a Zelda fan, you will rent this game. Otherwise, just move along and let you Wii collect dust.

6/10

I'm very interested in reading their review now at any rate. Wonder what they didn't like as much as other reviewers?

They may have liked it just as much, but they have a different scale. That's the thing with reviews. It's almost impossible to compare them.

Ooccoo. He gave up on thinking the game could be good quality after three hours because of a stupid plot twist?

I don't know what site that was, but you can safely bunk that review for being dumb. Zelda games and story, pfft... what fools

Anyway reads like a fake.

post the source so people can ask Nintendo over twitter if that shit is real.

It was the same with the 7.5 Uncharted 3 review.

ND said it's fake and after 3 days or so the site was down.

It's mindblowing how badly written that is. I wish more reviews were at the level of the Eurogamer U3 review.

He probably made it up or it's a place not even google knows since a search for a full phrase within quotes doesn't bring up anything, hence why they may have written it.

I became less convincing as it went on. The kicker was the part about the plot twist. Seeing as Ganon is 100% absent from the game no one should believe it. However I'm sure a few people will believe it for a few minutes.
