Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

This is the best and worst thing about Nintendo, in that you hold them to this impossible standard of magical nostalgia and you're bound to be disappointed.
I've fully embraced disappointment as an N-tard, and consider this the best and the best. I'd be disappointed if I wasn't disappointed.

Oh don't worry, Morgan Webb is totally going to shit on it and I can't wait. The meltdowns are going to be incredible.

Also in no way is Webb in games journalism. She's a TV personality.

But G4TV will still give the game a 5 just like they did for SMG2.

Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy got their share of GOTY awards, right?
Yeah, I definitely remember them getting the lion's share of GOTY awards in 06 and 07. I can definitely see it happening again if these glowing reviews keep up.

So, I haven't touched my Wii in about 4 years... Am I going to have to buy that extra wii motion thing to enjoy / play this or will there be 1 bundled in (I know, I should have gotten one years ago but i never play the Wii). This actually sounds awesome and I really want to play it.
There is a bundle with a golden wiimote with the attachment built in.

Yet SMG2 was the highest rated game of the year and summarily ignored at the end of it.
That's because it was a sequel that refined the formula of the original and not much else. Direct sequels don't really get much attention when it comes to GOTY awards.

OH WAIT.

If any kind sir would point me to a review that mentions how friendly the game is for lefties without spoiling it too much I would greatly appreciated. or any comment from someone who has played it for that matter. I would read the entire thread but I don't want to get any spoilers (for me even some of those avatars are spoilerish enough, I have a very low threshold for that :( )

Yup, because she has nothing to do with the scoring. Or so, I'd imagine. Not sure exactly how things work over there obviously.

Also, yeah, even if Skyward ends the year with the highest Metacritic rating, it will not win GOTY at most publications. Wii game/Zelda/Not HD/No Online/So on.

I think she literally said "yawn" at zelda Skyward Sword on some show or something cause it wasn't fancy HD.

Quite funny when they praise AC for so much new stuff in every new game and bash Zelda for being the same as always.

and I think SMG2 getting 10s was jut a confirmation that the gameplay therein, which appeared for the first time in SMG1, was worth gold.

giving the GOTY award to what basically was a load of SMG1 leftovers wouldn't have felt right for some sites and magazines, I guess.

You people need to stop caring about this crap. None of it matters.

Nice. All i need to know. Thanks.

This seems to be be in limited supply. Some stores are already out of their supply it seems and no word if there will be another shipment of it. So you might have pick up a Wii Remote Plus controller (that has the Motion Plus built into the controller). I think that's the only version of the controller they sell now but still want to make sure it says Wii Remote Plus on the box.

Is the attachment even still being sold?

I don't actually care, just saying that's what is going to happen. I was actually fully expecting this game to get shit on for some reason and it wasn't going to affect my enjoyment of it.

She's on TV? I've only ever heard of her through GAF and the pics of her jawline.

In fact, the last two boss encounters are the most difficult fights in any Zelda game thus far.
Calling bullshit on this. Adventures of Link: Thunderbird and Dark Link.

this.

I just think it's interesting that Skyward Sword is actually getting all these 10s. Usually that's reserved for the Grand Theft Autos and Uncharteds of the world, not so much Nintendo titles (let alone Wii titles).

What's with all the bitterness in here? I thought there'd be a celebration going on after seeing the thread update, but instead people are preemptively crying about Zelda possibly not winning game of the year because they're convinced of Wii/non-HD conspiracy theories.

And people said Uncharted fans were bad.

Not going to read the reviews as I'm getting spoiler sensitive, but I see something about hard bosses floatig around. Excellent. Though I hope that means hard in general, not just "Hard for a Zelda game".

You must be trolling. Those 2 hard? Not a chance.

Definitely the former. I'm not a fan of qualifying like that. "Well, it's a great game...for the Wii." Meh, it's either a great game or it's not IMO.

This guy right here.

Hate, hate, HATE people who qualify shit like that. Critics and fans alike. People who have to "dust off their Wii" don't deserve to experience the great library of games Nintendo has offered. The first-party output has been the greatest of this generation, but lol SD graffix and teh waggle.

Maybe when the Wii U has more XTREME HD MURDER KILL HARDCORE GAMEZ, these self-professed "gamers" won't have to dust their shit off all the time.

It's just two 10s so far. Good scores but obviously it's still not that much to go by.

This isn't even a fraction of what went down in that thread.

I don't think we need to be reminded.'

Anywho, I liked the Gametrailers preview much more because it wasn't dripping with hyperbole. Save that for the review... am I right?

You forget that this is a Game Informer reviewer we are talking about. I seriously doubt he has played Adventures of Link, let alone be able to even get to the last 2 bosses.

I hope my sister asks for this for Christmas so I can mooch off her Wii. Maybe I should buy it for her regardless....

I saw this knee-jerk, protective post coming a mile away, but didn't expect it to be this ridiculous and contrived. I must be trolling? The fuck?

Honestly, have you even played them? Otherwise your post doesn't make any sense. Maybe those aren't hard.... provided your levels are very high, you know exactly what you're doing, you're an AoL master, and know how to (and would like to) exploit the glitch.

giggas said:
Blue Iron Knuckle on the horse then?
That, too. The Zelda series hasn't had a single boss that's come close to the difficulty of AoL bosses since it came out. I very much doubt Skyward Sword is seeing such a dramatic rise in difficulty... but that would truly be wonderful.

The main Zelda and Mario titles have always done well with the press. Look at the reviews for Mario Galaxy, OOT, Twilight Princess and Galaxy 2 .

Did you read any reviews for Mario Galaxy 2? The AIAS showed how weak and pathetic they are by not even giving that game a GOTY nomination. Why I'm still a member of this farcial organization is beyond me.

No one's crying about it. It's simply a matter of fact that it's going to happen that way.

I'm still not sure if Zelda is going to be my GOTY, personally. Haven't played it yet.

Ehh? Ocarina of Time is constantly referred to as one of the best games of all time by most of the gaming press.

Er? Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are still the highest scoring games this generation. (according to gamerankings, metacritic has a weird scoring model)

???

Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess both got plenty of 10s. A console Zelda is always a big deal to the gaming press.

EDIT: The format of these posts are all the same.

Why is my childhood coming back to rape my wallet? Seriously, between this, Sonic, Batman, and Mario, it's like my childhood is punishing me for ever growing up and having my own money!

Fixed, sadly. It's a damn shame consumers and publishers continue to care about that mess of a site.

Thunderbird is hard, and if you don't know the trick to beat Shadow Link he's goddamn impossible.

I know I might sound like a pretentious pos with this but, I beat the game when I was 9. No guides, no anything. Heck, I barely knew english back then.

giggas said:

Maybe, but one boss that I found kinda hard (although I guess it was because I was anxious) it's the big fish on Majora's Mask. That one was a pain in the ass, I was like 3 hours trying to beat him.

I was 8. That doesn't mean they weren't very hard.

You'd be surprised at how youth, repetition, and willpower could affect your skill at a game even at that age. When I was 8 I got to the point of clearing Ninja Gaiden on NES with almost no issues. Nowadays I can't even get past stage 5 without tons of practice.
