Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

Jeff shouldn't review this game at all. Everytime I hear him talk about a game, he just sounds so fucking bored. I'm seriously starting to think that he's bored with his life. He's constantly trying to find negative things to say in quick looks and unlike Ryan, he very rarely does say something positive about it (Ryan can at least compliment a bad game. For example if the game has slightly good graphics, he mentions it).

Note that I'm far from a Jeff-hater. I've pretty much loved his work since Gamespot but he's slowly but surely becoming really, really boring. And Zelda is a really, really lively game. This is why I don't want Jeff touching this game.

edit: Wow, this isn't even the Giant Bomb thread!

i love jeff! i would almost say that the whole mood of previewing/reviewing games has changed to something far more bored over the past five years.

but maybe i'm projecting.

An unexciting go-through-the-motions post.

Usually yours are decent.

he's like that with a lot of quick looks for games and he often ends up loving them

jeff was a person who had the balls to tell the truth about zelda tp in an era when no-one had the fucking balls to do so

i doubt it'll happen this time but in tp's case a lot of people would have just gave it a ten "because it's zelda"

Wow, who uses the 100-scale anymore ._.?

Why does it matter to you guys who reviews a game? You're still going to buy and play it regardless.
Reviews are important for me because I want this game to sell a lot of copies. It won't affect hardcore gamers but it can change the casual gamer :)

casual gamers don't give a shit about reviews. they'll buy something because a friend told them it's fun or the commercial makes the game look appealing.

skyward sword will sell 4m+ just like most console zelda games anyway.

What truth. The game is a masterpiece, he couldn't see it, whatever. Its about matching your gaming taste with reviewers taste not about finding a reviewer that sees the "truth". There is no truth just different opinions.

Dunno, my casual gamer friends would never buy Zelda if it would get 7s or 8s. It's either 9, 10 or gtfo.

I think you have that backwards.
Hardcore gamers tends to talk a lot about reviews and how it affects them but the actual truth is that they don't give a shit and they'll buy the game anyway :p

I wish Jeff was reviewing it since I thought the Twilight Princess review was actually spot on in hindsight.

Oh well.

His review always worked on it own though so that doesn't mean much.

However if he really doesn't want to play it and wouldn't if it wasn't forced on him at work I don't see why he should if the man has no desire to do so.

Sure I understand that but it would be nice for continuity sake.

I agree 100% with his Zelda taste in terms of the 3D ones.

OoT>Wind Waker> TP

No biggy, I'm sure there will be plenty of other quality reviews out there.

It's a Zelda game; I think sales are safe. Besides, one review won't change sales appreciably.

Why does it matter to you if other people like reading reviews?
I doesn't matter to me if somebody wants to hear a specific person's opinion on a game. It does, however, bother me if somebody doesn't want a specific person to review a game.

He gave MM an 8.3. Soooooo OoT>WW>TP>MM. Are you comfortable with that, sir?

Yep. MM is my least favorite in the series. Even out of the 2D ones as well.

I think it's the bastard red headed step child. It's so inessential I completely forgot about it.

I'd kind of like to see Jeff review it because of his TP review. I think it would be interesting to see how he thinks SS compares to it. Who cares if he goes lower or higher than TP in the grand scheme of things?

Also, I like how Jeff had "the balls to tell the truth" about TP. Yeah, the balls to give it an 8.8, which last time I looked, still makes it a great game and score.

That said, I'm not really a big Jeff fan, but that has nothing to do with Zelda.

Sounds more like the exception than the rule.

I mean the best example I can think of, just look at the review/Meta-score for Just Dance versus the games' sales. And that was a new IP so no in-built audience.

Nah, he complained about crap like having to press a button to read a sign. Or was that the Joystiq guy? I get them confused.

I just remember Jeff's review being really inaccurate in some places... The score is fine, he shouldn't have gotten flak for that, but I don't think too highly of the review itself.

This is fucking terrible. I feel bad for you.

The wait is unbearable for this.

I've got my LE pre-ordered. I keep jizzing my jocks daily in wait.

This game is going to make me shit a chicken.

Don't worry, I didn't like Majora's Mask that much either. I think the atmosphere, music, and art was great but it was a chore for me to play.

How long have you been out of the fridge, because your taste is bad?
Most people actually agree that Majora's Mask is the weakest of the 3D iterations. GAF is certainly in the minority. But that's fine, you are entitled to like that one.

I just really really didn't like it.

Almost as much as I hated Super Mario Sunshine. Almost...

Jeff is an absolutely atrocious writer, what the hell guys.

You're probably one of the few people who would consider his writing "absolutely atrocious." And if you really feel that way, you must find games journalism on the whole insufferable.

Well, it is.

Where you getting these hard hitting stats from man
By numbers of people who bought, by the amount it's brought up in comparision to best Zelda in mags and other places, the scores the game got.

MM has it's fans but lets be real here. MM is and was considered a black sheep by a large portion of the Zelda fanbase just as II was before it.

I don't really think the criticisms of the review are that inaccurate.

The Wii functionality felt cheap and tacked on, while the sound coming from the Wii Mote speaker was downright bad. Graphics and textures were very muddy in places and was a big step down from the strong crisp and lasting art style of Windwaker.

At least I'm not going crazy here...

It's fine to enjoy the game, but don't look at me crazy for not liking it.

Yes but then 3 weeks later he talked about how in fact it was better on Wii compared to Gamecube yet it wasn't really addressed and then swept under the rug.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind Jeff's review of TP, a review is nothing more then opinion and it's scary that people want to think their is something more to it then that. However the way they handled the TP issues was almost as bad as the way the fan base reacted to it.

Haha, Majora's Mask is my favourite 3D Zelda and Sunshine is my favourite 3D Mario.

It's 2 weeks today until I'll be playing another console Zelda game. I've waited 5 years and it's only 2 weeks away.
