Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

Why did I have to click on that link to G4's opinion on the game? It's just made me frustrated.

Morgan Webb's comments just illustrate how shallow she can be. Games don't have to be mature and/or have photo-realistic graphics to be interesting, fun and well made.

Sessler's comments make it sound like he's been living under a rock if he can't see the significant and subtle changes made to Zelda's classic but stale game design. Nintendo's practically offered something new to every aspect of the game except for the lack of voice acting What does he want in this game, QTEs or something?

Sort of on a whim I purchased a Wii bundle from Target so that I can play this game. I hope I enjoy it!

The wii was only $145 w taxes and it included Mario Kart and wiimote plus so it's not that much money either way.

Well, I find them "finishing it as soon as I have access to last boss fight and never bothering with collecting all stars" boring, something that never happened with the rest of the games in the series which I always 100%'d them.

fucking daylight savings. now I have to wait an extra hour for this.

I looked at the clock to see that its STILL the hour of 1am even though it was the hour of 1am an hour ago

I feel a bit of the same way. I still haven't finished the extra world in 2, but I was having a great time. I just don't feel motivated to play it much anymore.

Ok ok, Zelda. I don't really think the analogy will matter too much. Zelda is a completely different beast.

Congrats!

After Skyward Sword you have quite the backlog to go through...

once they've milked this bad boy i'm hoping they advertise it on wiiU at launch as backwards compatible~

I just hope this gets the plays it deserves if it is indeed as epic as reviewed.

Wii has a nice install base i'm sure people will buy it.. just dust off the wii is all

I still have fire emblem Wii version to beat.. i think i'll play that tonight :)

I actually have sorta had a Wii before via roommates. So I've played the Galaxy series, Mario, etc. I am however very interested in Xenoblade Chronicles. It's too bad it's such a pain in the ass to get here in the US.

I wonder what else I should play...

I guess that could be it, but that's kind of an odd thing to say. Oh well, more money for Ninty makes better games?

Monster Hunter Tri! Be warned, it may draw you in and distract you from Zelda.

Yes. I'd like to see a WiiU-specific Zelda a few years after release, rather than at/near the end of the console's life cycle.

Well, having a linear game that leads you directly to each star really took the fun for me. I had no motivation, either. I didn't like the hub worlds for either smg1 and smg2, and I didn't like the fact that the individual levels/worlds weren't a part of the hubworld. Instead, you advanced to different levels on an archaic 2D platform layout of levels similar to Mario3. I don't like mario games that are so disjointed. At least in Mario3, the levels were part of the world and you felt like you were actually making progress. And not just picking random pieces on a board. The whole experience as a whole felt like i was playing a game for the pre-school level. The levels were short, and shaking a wii controller to get blown out of stars was not for me. I hated it. All mario games up to Mario64 were really entertaining, though. And I love Zelda.

Fuck, I can't wait for this game anymore, I'm gonna have to break into some warehouse and steal a copy for myself.
Anyone else want me to snag a cop or two for them too?

I'd say yes but I don't want to implicate myself

Say no more, friend.
A copy of this game will be at your doorstep shortly.
A black bag questionably shaped like a human body shall be in the trunk of your car as well.
No, not really. It's a joke. I'm sleepy.

I've loved every Zelda game and Mario 1-World are in my top 15 games of all time. Of all the 3D Mario games I found Sunshine that most interesting. The Galaxy series has tons of variety, but I just get bored with it pretty quick. I don't hate them though. I suppose someone like me must exist out there.

I do wonder how long it will take. Surely they can tell that Zelda at the end of the cycle isn't extremely beneficial. I hope we can at least get one mid cycle.

I really wish they would work with Retro to get it done faster, and maybe even better. :)

I know gaming tastes differ and all, but I'm stunned that people didn't like the Galaxies. It... it actually boggles the mind.

If Skyward Sword : Ocarina of Time :: Super Mario Galaxy : Super Mario 64, then we're in for quite a treat.

I really like the Galaxy games, but I love Mario 64 quite a bit more. They're different games, and they're much less alike than people make them out to be.

But of course, I understand the analogy, and am way too hyped right now...

Just got my issue of Edge in the mail.
Wow, what a beautiful cover. Looks great.

I hope this game works decently on Dolphin on release day.
I really don't want to have to play it on the Wii.

People still watch G4? Lol. I stopped around 2006 or something. Anyways, does anyone else wish they could've thrown in an artbook or something, to make the CE more awesome? Don't get me wrong, the controller is pretty bad ass, I just wish it had something else.

The Wii U launches in the spring right? A part of me wishes Nintendo had Skyward Sword with a engine capable of matching the brilliance of the art team at launch for that.

I believe Orayn I believe!
Originally, June seemed likely, but now November is pretty much confirmed due to Nintendo entering panic mode and wanting to do everything possible to avoid another 3DS-like launch.

I had exactly the same experience. Definitely boring due to pacing issues. Don't know why everyone calls it the game of the generation and stuff and I hate to see it being compared to Zelda.

Still don't think it'll be as far on as November - it's too late a date. I'm sticking with my August/September predictions.

Just over a week left until I get mine. AHHHHHHH

As for my preorder, it was on the standard edition - now I've changed it to the special edition. I'll trade in my current wii remote to pay the extra cost. Need that shiny box!

Weren't you banned for this stuff? You're doing it again, buddy.

It's going to be re-unveiled at E3 so his november guess is probably right. Wii U is expected September in Japan and November/December in Europe/US(like Wii). The early 2012 launch has been debunked by Iwata when he said "after April 2012" and with the next showing at E3 it won't be out before holiday 2012.

I still don't think the next showing will be at E3

Iwata only said the final form would be there. "Re-unveiling" was wording just used for the thread titles.

It confirms that it won't launch before E3, but it doesn't say it won't be shown before then.

Then again, both sides of this argument are stupid because it's trying to pick out specific word choice in a Japanese statement.

It'll probably cameo at GDC but I'm not expecting anything big. IIRC, the Virtual Console was fleshed out at GDC 2006 before the Wii's blowout at E3.

*Yawns* Okay, I think basically what it is is that you show Zelda and then right after that we showed Uncharted, and just the difference in graphics and just adult nature of Uncharted…the graphics were beautiful.

I've been really good about being on a media blackout for the past month or so. I just want to know are there any complaints about fetch quests?

You know a part at the end of Wind-Waker? They make you replay that, backwards, in black and white

Still, if that's the earliest it'll be shown in it's final form, the earliest possible launch is September. However, Nintendo's going to want to show it in Japan before it launches at least once, so November is more likely unless E3 next year for Wii U turns out to be like the 3DS's January conference. Whatever the case, a June launch is out of the question, so an SS port is not going to happen.

Replace "confirmed" with "most likely" in my previous post.

Also, I was banned for "constant bipolar hyperbole in every thread," not that.

you know guys what's the worst part about waiting for this game?

having to rely on this thread to contain the hype and click on it only to see people are talking about all sorts of offtopic shit like the Mario galaxies and the WiiU when all this thread should be containing is reviews, previews and all hype-inducing things leading to the release of Skyward sword.

it's very, very annoying.
