Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

I already swapped my Switch with a new one, got 2 tiny scratches on the left bottom corner (black area of the screen) and thought it was there from the start but it seems the dock must have caused it.

I will also try this on the dock with my new Switch:

@WonkyPanda: the rubber footies on the bottom dont touch the screen and the material on the bottom is hard plastic so i dont understand what you mean. There are some type of rubber on the side where the glass faces so maybe you mean those things?
If so then doing as the video shows should also prevent scratches from that.

No scratches yet but my dock looks like it has that slight inward warp people are talking about. I shoved a quarter in there, hoping to widen it out a little bit over time. Being extra careful until my tempered glass screen protector comes in.

Sorry, I mean, when i unboxed it, I docked it and I just took it today out and noticed the scratches.
Out of interest is your dock bent inward? I'm guessing there's a strong colleration here. Haven't had problems with mine and it's straight, that being said I'm still going the USB C male to female route as I'm paranoid and don't like the dock setup anyway.

My amFilm got here much quicker than promised.

Now I need an application support group. I've never done the tempered glass stuff so will be watching videos. I've done the old style in a steamy bathroom, that's about all I know.

Any chance of sending me a pic to back up my case if I have to?

That's the exact same scratch in the same place as I have.

I dont understand what could caused them, did you hit the dock hard at one point when taking it out? The dock dont touch the screen by itself as far as i can see. And the rubbers should not scratch. I did get some minor ones myself but it was much lower on the left side.

Maybe i get a female - male converter and skip the dock for now until Nintendo does something about it, i'm paranoid as well with my gadgets :/

Doesn't look like it

No hitting the dock. Normal in and out. I was trying to baby it before the screen protector came in.

My Switch has locked up on my a few times since I got it and was trying to decide if I wanted to exchange it. It would be my 3rd exchange though. The 1st one had a left joy-con that basically didn't work and the 2nd time my usb-c plug died. Plus now I have like 18 hours on Zelda. The scratching and locking up might put me over the top though. I could probably get back to where I am in Zelda in like 5 hours now that I have played it.

May i ask which cable you have bought? (brand)
Some cables dont seem to work reading reviews on Amazon UK.

i've got this one coming in the next few days (dispatched today) and also the amfilm one but it's back ordered til the 14th of march. i will report back when this one arrives :P

i've currently got the one that came with the official case on, and it has had no issues with bubbling, scratching, etc. but i would prefer tempered glass as the "feel" of the screen isn't very nice atm.

Yay my Orzly tempered glass protector shipped today!!! :D

''Estimated time of arrival: March 24th - April 18th''

D:
Amazon UK? Mine shipped on 20th feb but isn't due until 14-16th March. Where on earth are these things coming from to take so long?

Surprised they didn't at least line the inside of the dock with felt.
someone posted earlier in this thread that felt would've trapped more dust, thus causing micro-abrasions.

not sure what the solution is tbh. maybe shipping every switch with a screen protector? using harder plastic on the display or at least a hard coating on top of the plastic? idk.

It could be a thin line of felt and could be a protruding line that only touches the outside of the viewing area and nothing else. That would at least be better than nothing.

fair enough. it's a sad situation all around though, they really should be including screen protectors until they've redesigned the hardware around this issue.

Same one as Samus4145: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FM4ZWV0/?tag=neogaf0e-20
There's some reports of it not carrying enough power to charge things properly, Samus's was fine and it doesn't seem widespread so it's prob a bit of a lottery. I'll just be exchanging it if it has problems. Seems to be the only half decent one of the 4 or so USB C M to F cables around, all the other adapters are USB stick sized things or A to C.

How is the Anker brand for screen protectors? I just ordered this one as it was a tempered glass solution that would arrive the fastest for me. I also have the amFilm one ordered as well but that isn't due to arrive till around the 17th, so I figured I'd try the Anker and maybe cancel/return the amFilm

In the meantime I should have an iLLumiShield screen protector film arriving in the next day or two to keep it safe till the Anker comes.

anker are great, i use one on my iphone 7+.

Thread is huge, Amazon finally delivered Zelda three days late. Do I avoid docking my switch until my screen protector gets here?

100% yes.

It's actually a YMMV. Check your dock to see if it's bent inward slightly. That seems to be what indicates if you will have the scratching issue. My dock is fine and hasn't scratched the screen at all, and I've docked and undocked quite a bit.

Though to be on the safe side, I am using a piece of that white soft fabric thing that the switch was wrapped in.

Cool was looking at these in Amazon UK but wasnt sure if it fits in the dock.

Thanks for info.

I'm just going to play it safe and not even dock the thing. Thanks guys.

I feel like the solution would just be to have the dock without the front kind of like what the hori one looks like, I oddly like the look of the Nintendo dock though

Random theory: maybe the dock used to contain fans and the 'covered' design was there to promote airflow with the fans being removed later on but the design remaining the same. Though the open sides do discredit this somewhat.

Can confirm I do have scratches. I used Glass cleaning wipes and put a lot of force and it did not come off. I will probably return the unit after I finish Zelda but within the 15 day return window.

I didn't use a lot of force when I was cleaning the screen using the wipes mentioned below.

Just checking, is the scratch you have only visible when reflected off light or can you see it at any angle?

Edit: Also, is your dock angled inward? Basically, is the dock standing up at a 90 degree angle or does the front part of the dock angle inward a lot that it isn't upright?

I would suggest cleaning the screen with a microfiber cloth. I am not sure on the texture of your windex wipes, but you want something very soft. Also, not sure if windex is a proper product to use. Eyeglass cleaner would be a better solution, imo.

I used these to get rid of the white streaks.

Got my hori plastic screen protector today (not the premium one with issues). of course I can never really get these on and look good but it's better than nothing. at least now I can undock without having to baby it and I could just replace the protector in the future if needed. at least it isn't noticable when ingame lol. im fucking terrible at this.

I just got my Switch.

I'm excited to dock it to charge it and play it, but my dock is definitely one of the slanted ones.

I put a book in there.

How long do you guys think I need to keep it in there?

Unfortunately my screen protector will be a while.

Been running the switch all day with Zelda playing. System still up at 100%, and Pro controller still at 100%. Obviously YMMV with the cable, but I'm very happy with it so far.

Only issue like I said was it can come loose easily, so I'll have to tape it down into the dock to secure it.

I have a slanted dock also, and I have a novel in there, I'd like to know how long I should wait also.

I'm so particular with my stuff that this would probably give me chest pains. I'd be pissed. If I do ever change my mind about the Switch, I will certainly be waiting until this is fixed.

I'd like a dock that only held the console by the very edges, like where the joycons connect.

The screen would be exposed while docked, but at least it wouldn't scratch the screen when taking it in or out.

Add small raised bars or small raised points around the screen perhaps.

Is it an obvious defect? I'll be picking up my Switch today from the local UPS store and I'm worried I might end up putting scratches on it too :(

You can check by putting something like a hardcover book or something straight next to it. It should be flush and even with it. You'll notice a space toward the top if it is leaning inward.
