Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

I don't know if it's about valuing the dock so much as just wanting to use the product as designed/intended. I can't say unequivocally that the scratches on my Switch's bezel are from the dock, but I have handled it very carefully when not docked (and insert/remove it carefully), so I don't know what else could have left the marks. I'm cautiously optimistic that my adjustments to my dock - widening it with a SNES cart for a day - will alleviate further marks.
I won't lie and say that I'm not seriously considering buying a screen protector, though.

I'm on the same boat. I purchased one that was recommended by a fellow gaf member. But canceled it shortly after.
I'd like to know I'm buying one that works properly.

Its nearly invisible and easy to apply. amFilm seems also popular but its sold out, might try this later if mine gets to many scratches.

Just a warning on my hori screen protector. After docking it and playing for a few hours, there were massive bubbles formed on the protector. Was able to get them out, but kinda annoying.

Any issues with peeling edges or bubbling from the heat when docked?
Have you done the entire front with electrical tape or just parts?

This seems insane to me. The part that covers the bottom bezel, ie the part that is allegedly scratching screens, is still there, and still just as tight, no? How would this help at all?
Thanks for the head's up, i havent used mine in the dock (on my second Switch since first one got scratches). Wanted to wait atleast 24h to see if it help. Will report back if i do get the problem.

10+ hours in Zelda and I played it docked for probably twenty minutes. I prefer portable by a long shot. I just feel like it's easier for me to jump into the game that way.
I haven't and I almost solely play while docked inside a TV cabinet so it gets pretty toasty in there. Film was easy to apply but I did get a little dust underneath one spot and it doesn't seem like the type of protector you can peel back up with tape and take out the dust. ):

I've got the same protector here. No issues thus far. It was a simple install and I was able to avoid any dust from getting trapped. Just clean your screen well and use a can of compressed air to blow off your screen after each step of the install. The Hori protector has a nice four step install process.
Nope, played zelda for hours and hours docked, no issues with the screen protector at all yet.

I've been reading this thread with interest and have been super careful with my Switch since getting it Monday. It have been in the dock since then and I only took it out tonight when I thought I would have a go on it upstairs.
I don't have any scratches but I do now have permanent rubbing marks either side of the screen from where the two rubber grips on the dock touched it. I've tried carefully rubbing them away to no avail. It's not really bad but it is a bit annoying since I was so mindful of it.
I have a glass screen protector on its way so that'll be going on for sure.

Isn't the reason switches are getting scratched is because dust is getting rubber against the console as it's docked/undocked?
I don't see how ANY material applied to the docking rails stop this from occurring.

Not everyone has a dock that causes scratches.

Thanks to all the Infos between neogaf and reddit I managed to put up a decent survival guide, I think the next step should be the WiFi issues.
Just a heads up, but the USB C cable that you suggested from Google is male to male (you would need a male to female cable to connect to the dock). Still reading through, but besides that cable, it does seem like a pretty useful info compilation so far.
EDIT: In Console surface issues, you should caution against using adhesive skins because they wear away at the Switch's paint.
I haven't used any type of tape. I put a screen protector on. I would only put the tape on the inside of the dock on the plastic rails.
No? It's the hard plastic scraping against the screen. It's not affecting everyone and some people are harder on their stuff than others.

Honestly I'm not buying shit else from them, I don't care if they make a new dock, for them to release this one like this is just terrible. Why would I give them more money for something that they should have thought of in the first place? This crappy dock is already 90 dollars, what are they gonna charge for the other one? They should replace the dock for everyone that's having issues.
Why do people keep saying the dock is $90? It's $60. $90 is a dock and AC Adapter.

The smudges from the rubber are not permanent. I freaked out also when I saw them. Use something like Goo Gone, a product that can remove adhesive residue easily. Once I did they were completely gone. Then went out and bought some cheap screen protectors as I am still waiting for my glass protectors.

Just making it look like the Wii U gamepad stand is enough for me to get one.
Don't use chemicals on the screen if you can help it. Just wipe them off with your finger, and then wipe off finger smudges with a soft cloth.

I just used a damp(water) microfiber cloth and rubbed a little harder than the rest of the screen which worked fine.

That's the one I got. Works perfect for me. I got the 1Ft cable but that one only comes in pink. The longer one comes in a different color and I'm sure it'll work just as good.
Edit: Just noticed you can get it in blue and red as well.
They are not permanent. Just use your finger and squish/remove those smudges.

Damn, I just got mine today and my dock is definitely bent. Sorry but this thread is huge. What's the consensus fix? A screen protector?
Yeah this worked for me when I tried it too.
Luckily I stick to playing Zelda in docked mode, it just looks gorgeous on a big screen, especially a big open world title like this, lovely quality on an LG E6 I got recently. Oh and if you have a 5.1 surround setup, the environment sounds are lovely and immersive. I've only taken it out of the dock maybe 4 times to compare quality and to check the screen, had marks apart from maybe once.
Anyway, my second screen protector should arrive tomorrow and will see how I get on with it.
It's stupid but I'd probably buy an upgraded dock if they ever release one

That's damn clever but I don't have a SNES cart handy. I'll have to find something that's thick enough.
It's in it's dock right now charging and I'm scared to take it out lol.
I got it from another gaf member.
I'm sure anything around that size will work too.
Also, you can charge the system by plugging the cable to the switch.

How can they Patent a Dock that's been 100's of times for different devices?
I'd like to get someone to 3D print one that can use the internals. (Would be cool to use the pressure plate from the current dock as well).
