Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

Here is a easy replacement dock solution. No scratches here. Just grab a USB C female to male as others have from Amazon.

Works great. Also great to charge and play on the go since the kickstand blocks the charge port.

But no HDMI/pass-through so no deal :/

Well, I gave into my paranoia and ordered one of these:

Once I get it, I'll report back to everyone of what I think of the quality of the inner material and if it will actually help.

Nintendo will have created a whole cottage industry with this dock design.

Does this actually pass video etc? So TV -> Nintendo dock -> female to male USB C -> this stand?

*edit*

Nope it's micro USB out. This is NOT a solution to the official
dock issue.

Looks adorable.

The problem with all these dock covers is they increase the pressure on the Switch's fit in the dock, and will cause scratches to the BACK of the Switch. And yes, I'm sure, because I tested with my own console. I KEEP SACRIFICING MY SWITCH IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE!

There is currently no way around the console scratching (either front or rear) unless you either:

1.) Saw off the front of the dock.
2.) Use a female-to-male USB C cable and plug the Switch in free of the crappy dock.

So far the dock that came with my switch is causing no issues but let's see if the second dock I bought from nintendo turns out this perfect.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I'd much rather have the back of the Switch get scratches than the screen. I'm not super anal about my devices, but scratches around/on the screen would drive me crazy since that's where I'll be looking all the time.

Nintendo really should have designed this thing with some felt on each side in the first place (they could have easily just made it a few mm wider and done this).

It is a nice alternative to the Hori stand though especially as nowhere has any of them.

My M to F cable arrived today, hooking it up tonight. Upon further thinking I actually want to disassemble the dock and shift the components into a small enclosure, more portable and can do away with the damn thing entirely.

Hey all. Where did this 24 hour thing come from?

I just installed my amFilm and I didn't see any reference to 24 hours. Did we make that up or am I illiterate?

FWIW I had the first application nailed, but there was one spec of something in there. I lifted it in the steamy room to pluck that out and got like 10 new things under. Second one had lots of stubborn bubbles but nailed it in the end. Going to go celebrate by not playing my Switch for 24 hours apparently.

I have another question, let's say I go ahead and buy a USB-C cable to connect my dock to the Switch. Is there any one in particular I should look out for? Is it called a male to female cable? I've read in the past that cheap USB-C cables can brick hardware.
Asking for a new page.

maybe im just lucky but i have the switch for about a week now. And used it in and out the docking station for more than 20 times i think.
And so far no scratches and i havent use a any screen protector yet...

[.
I said it earlier but I've docked and undocked literally dozens of times since getting it. Zero scratches.

I've pretty much stuck to reading this thread out of morbid amusement.

What? Why can't you play for 24 hours? I put it on this afternoon and have played for a good portion of the day. Didn't put it in the dock for a couple of hours to let everything settle, but no issues with it.

After hearing about that dude running his keys across the screen, putting it in and out of the dock 100 times and also my own personal experience with the switch I don't think this is a thing. I'm guessing the switch must have been scratched another way

But if you do 2) someone could just take a hammer and smash the console because it's not protected by the dock

Hmmmm

Is there anything in the center of the top bezel? I can't tell if there's some sort of sensor or if there's a perfectly centered bubble under my screen protector. I'm trying to get it out but it won't budge!

EDIT: Never mind. It was just a bubble under the part I had to peel off. But I have dust under the screen protector... :( Has anyone not been happy with their first attempt and tried a second yet? How'd it go?

You're looking for a USB C extension cable basically.

How many documented (though not necessarily "verified") cases of screen scratches have there been, about? Are we talking tens, hundreds, thousands?

I've seen it in the thread a few times, hadn't heard it before. I know a long time ago one of the plastic protectors I applied said to take it easy for a bit, but haven't see anything regarding the tempered ones officially.

I've used this companies protectors on phones and such and never had any issue. I know one guy on Reddit put his in the dock almost right after and the heat messed up the sticky substance, but letting it sit for a couple hours should be more than sufficient. It's ultimately up to you though, but 24 hours seems crazy.

Kindly do fuck off.

So just because it doesn't happen to everyone, it isn't a thing? Come on.

So I left my dock over a furnace vent with a DS Lite (expendable) in the top for about 2 hours. Still has a bit of a bend but there's now a tiny bit of wiggle room that wasn't there before. I can rock the switch back and forth slightly when docked (about 1 mm of space). Hopefully this reduces the risk of scratching, but I'm paranoid now. I'd still like to get hold of a screen protector.

That was me. And yes, the Switch does scratch eventually. Judging by HOW it scratched, it wasn't the 100 times that did it, but a combination of angle and pressure that did it. And that is not predictable.

Don't mess with this paranoid thread ;) no one wants reality in here, they all fall for the "hidden" screen protector advertisement.

I'm actually making on of these myself. Picked up some soft fabric today that should work. This is the only way to be safe for now.

These look nice, but I feel a dust or other small particle is going to get caught in the cloth and there's even more chance of it scratching the screen, but now in the actual viewport area.

Yup exactly. It's not solving much imo.

I think people should just gently bend their docks outward. Some people are doing it with their hands, others are jamming a book in there lol

Scared to undock mine until amFilm Tempered Glass arrives, there's so much demand for them it'll take 2 weeks.

This shiz is hideous. I'll take some scratches over this.

So just because it doesn't happen to everyone, it isn't a thing? Come on.

It's just odd that if it's a design issue the scratches that have been documented aren'T uniform in location or direction. I think Switch users trying to avoid scratches from their dock are going to end up doing more damage than they prevent with some of their creative solutions.

I'm sorry in advance GAF, I know this was answered 100x but what are the best fixes for this? Just grabbed my Switch today and I have the Gorilla Glass Screen Protector on but I'm still pretty anal about things and unfortunately my dock is slightly bent in and isn't straight.

What's the best solution here? Should I buy some rubber stoppers or something? Or I have the Gorilla Glass, should I just say ef it and dock, just be really careful?

How cool would it have been if Nintendo had given us the plastic screen with a pre-installed screen protector (glass).

I'd have paid extra for that sort of thing. Then, if somebody drops it, it would just maybe crack the screen protector which you would just replace. Either way, this whole scratch nonsense is a total joke and should never have happened.

No point crying over spilled milk, though, I suppose.

That dock sock is adorable. But I think it will increase the possibilities of scratching the screen in the long run.

For those worried about getting dust under the glass screen protector, I've put them on devices directly under my vent hood above my cooktop with great results. Turn it on high and it keeps most dust from falling down on the screen. You could even get a box or something to raise it up closer where the suction would be stronger.

Damn that's actually a good idea, better than the shower steam room I had to sit and do this in :p.

Install screen protectors in the bathroom after taking a hot shower. After the steam from the hot shower has settled the bathroom will be dust-free for a while.

That's exactly how I put it on, had the shower on running hot for quite a while, room was fairly steamed. Just got unlucky.

I also got a small dust particle, but thankfully it's towards the top of the system, on the bezel. Considering just how badly things could have gone wrong, one tiny speck off-screen is something I can live with. Where's yours?

Just two annoying ones on the left side on the actual screen, one dust particle quite long. I MAY try using tape to get it out, but I'm pretty sure it's going to make it worse somehow.

A tiny bit of the top bezel is exposed because I didn't center my screen protector perfectly and it's bothering me so much. Gonna try to ignore it because I doubt such a small part could get scratched anyway. And if I took it off and reapplied it, it'd probably mess things up even more. No dust though!

Oh god that's a tough one!! No dust but not aligned, hmmm I'd keep that as it is :)
(Should have used the hinge technique if you didn't)

Obviously, but that happens always with overprotective/paranoid people. But they surely find a way to blame other for their own failure ;-)
