Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

Oh god that's a tough one!! No dust but not aligned, hmmm I'd keep that as it is :)
(Should have used the hinge technique if you didn't)

Yep, I should have but for some reason didn't think to do it. Next time!

You think I should keep it how it is? Ugh... I'll think about it!

Dock Sock is catchy, sounds like the new Wiimote Condom.

Wait, you guys apply the screen protector while the bathroom is still steamy? Wouldn't that like trap moisture under the glass or something? I thought you're supposed to wait a bit for the steam to clear first.

Moisture will eventually evaporate out from under. It's not airtight under there.

Battery life is not sufficient on the Switch. Without a doubt they will release a Switch Pro using nvidia's latest Pascal 16nm FinFet die (coming from the 20nm on the current Switch), so I went ahead and purchased additional chargers. EDIT: hmm, looks like it could be so

Also purchased a $1.50 moleskin padding that was recommended by a few earlier in the thread.

Bent dock that you guys have been talking about. Looks to be a manufacturing issue. I have never seen an electronic equipment this shoddy and cheap, especially if it's coming from a reputable brand like Nintendo.

Moleskin padding installed. Tested it a few times docking/undocking and it was a tight fit but at least it won't scratch.

Anyone thought of just using some helicopter tape on the bits of plastic causing the issue?

I've got it all over my motorbike and you can't tell it's there, it's wonderful stuff.

Have they acknowledged any issues officially yet? These hacky solutions look pretty terrible, seems like they should have some sort of send back program.

Just put on my tempered glass that I got from amFilm on Amazon.

Fits perfectly, and go relieved to finally have protection for the Switch!

This is a super dumb, paranoid question, but for those using the amFilm protector, did you use the alcohol wipe it comes with before applying? Was it ok to use on the Switch screen?

I used it, no problems

Edit:
so, like I said yesterday aftrer 48hours of zero problems and no bubbles, little bubbles started to appear at the edge of the screen protector from amFILM. The protector was applied perfectly, if I might say so, no dust under it and the screen was cleaner than out of the box.
good news is, it did not get worse over night. the bubbles do not get bigger and no new ones appeared. I can press the bubbles out, but they re-appear after a few minutes.

they're nearly invisible to see without light shining on them too.

I've got some light scratches to the back of the console that I'm not that bothered about.

I'm pretty sure my dock is bob-on straight, as I've not had any issues taking it in and out of the dock many times, but I put on a screen protector I got with my case just to be safe.

My friend, who isn't particularly heavy-handed, but doesn't really baby his stuff has been taking it out of the dock daily, taking it to work in his bag (no case, but wrapped up in something) and he has no scratches on either the front or back of his unit. I looked at his setup last night and his dock is straight too. His room is tropical as well, like unbelievably hot even in winter, which leads me to wonder how hot these things have been getting for the dock to bend.

I'm not saying it hasn't happened because I've seen the pictures of this thread, just wondering what is causing it.

That can happen with any screen protector actually. It's rare but it can happen.

Just spent 10 minutes trying to remove the left side of my Hori screen protector to remove this long bit of dust underneath with tape....no luck, the thing seems to be on proper :p tried with using sticky tape and then pulling outwards and up slightly, even with more pressure. Think I'll leave it haha.

I'd recommed taking off the moleskin strip which touches the back of the Switch. You really don't need both sides covered (especially that your dock bends in), and making it a tight fit won't be good in the long run, and especially for ventilation.

Well, I gave into my paranoia and ordered one of these:

Once I get it, I'll report back to everyone of what I think of the quality of the inner material and if it will actually help.

Nintendo will have created a whole cottage industry with this dock design.

My only concern is the sleeve sliding up when you pull the Switch out, or am I just crazy?

I'm convinced bent docks are part of the problem, and I'm also convinced padding the inside of the dock with felt or whatever else will not help. This is just my opinion, but I know at my house dust/small particles would eventually get caught in said felt. Without owning a Switch myself all I can say is be careful.

It's proven though, you wouldn't clean a monitor with electrical tape, soft part of velcro, or a towel.

Doesn't it vent out the top?

Not gonna read 4000 posts so let me ask: Has this been confirmed? Am I better off waiting for a (stealth) hardware revision that fixes the Joy Con and Switch Hub issues?

Been using mine both in and out of the dock a bunch since launch without any screen protector... Not a scratch on it.

Not saying this isn't an issue, but it seems like (at least in my case) as long as a bit of care is used when docking, this isn't a major concern.

Yeah, doesn't affect everybody, I can see the bend so will just be using an extension for now. Was going to get a screen protector anyways.

It's confirmed that people are getting scratches.

The exact reasons are unknown, though the most likely culprit in a bent/tight dock.

Here is a easy replacement dock solution. No scratches here. Just grab a USB C female to male as others have from Amazon.

Works great. Also great to charge and play on the go since the kickstand blocks the charge port.

Does this actually pass video etc? So TV -> Nintendo dock -> female to male USB C -> this stand?

*edit*

Nope it's micro USB out. This is NOT a solution to the official
dock issue.

Yeah my bad. I didn't realise it was USB micro into the dock. Dammit! If it was USB C in and out this would have been perfect!

I think part of the paranoia is that the screen protectors will get scratches on them from the dock. My Nintendo screen protector did. No idea if it would have scratched the screen, but my guess is not. Still, not taking the chance now.

The problem with all these dock covers is they increase the pressure on the Switch's fit in the dock, and will cause scratches to the BACK of the Switch. And yes, I'm sure, because I tested with my own console. I KEEP SACRIFICING MY SWITCH IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE!

There is currently no way around the console scratching (either front or rear) unless you either:

1.) Saw off the front of the dock.
2.) Use a female-to-male USB C cable and plug the Switch in free of the crappy dock.
I gave up on my DIY solution because I noticed that it was giving me scratches on to the back of the system while I never actually got scratches on the front.

I'm going to try to stretch it out again tomorrow while I have the Switch out of the house. I did notice something new yesterday, my dock isn't just bent, it's asymmetrically bent. It's significantly narrower on the left side than on the right. That might also explain the pictures where some people only seemed to have scratches on one side.

I thought I was in good shape, but I now have the tiniest scratch on the left side of the screen. Super bummed, but I can deal with it, I guess. I really have no choice! I bought a screen protector, but totally botched the application.

Just looked at my dock, yeah it's super bent.
Guess I'll try to straighten it out while I wait for the switch to come back from Nintendo.

my dock must be super wide, when I slide my switch in it can wiggle like a centimeter. it's actually annoying as it moves a ton when trying to push the power button (which since the controllers don't have a power button anymore, I if I want to power on/off I have to go to the console like its 2000 again)

1 week in, been undocking/redocking every day with no screen protector and still no scratches (knock on wood). This definitely doesn't appear to be affecting every unit.

Don't you want to just sleep the system? It consumes very little power.

Put on my amfilm protector. It did not go smoothly. I want to punch a wall, but it's done. It's on there.

Time to jackhammer my Switch into the dock 1000 times.

Reports seem to show variation in the dock opening with some units slightly bent in. Seems like those have a higher chance of scratching. This is why some are trying to stretch or bend it out.

Yeah, sleep is honestly one of the best features.

Love being able to just resume where I left off with my DS and 3DS, and now I can do it with a Nintendo home console.

My dock is bent and I get the same wiggle when I push the power button on the docked console. So, at least I know that mine isn't too snug even though it's bent. I don't have any scratches either.

Also, I don't think you can have the system docked, with power going to it, and have it completely powered off. So you can use the controller to put it into sleep mode. I'm pretty sure you can also use the controller to wake it up (assuming they aren't attached) as well.

I was in the same boat until last night. Once I noticed this thread, I started trying to be super careful when putting it in and out of the dock, so I bet that was my undoing! Just keep doing what you've been doing.

So far so good with my dock but i'm always careful when I remove or use it, best thing to do is to make sure no dust gets into the dock or check the rubber pads before using it just in case something is on them.

It isn't I checked.

He's slated other CableCreation products in the past as well.

Not to say it means these cables aren't good...but who really knows. USB-C is such a shitshow at the moment.

Further on to this in regards to USB-C extension cables. Turns out the whole concept of an extension is a violation of the spec. I reached out to Benson Leung on twitter about Type-C extensions.

I'll mention this again since it was probably 20+ pages back last time.

I just push the Switch against the back of dock to hold it still to turn the power off. You don't need a lot of force to do it.

I do the same thing and also press down on its side if I have to; to hold it still while I remove the Joy-Cons.

You're never going to get a perfect slide of the Switch onto the dock, you just have to align it correctly to reduce the wiggling. It's not a big deal because there is more space at the bottom of the Switch than the top.

What? You can turn on the console with the home button, and turn it off from the main menu or the quick menu. No need to ever press the power button on the console itself while it's docked...

Well my girlfriend accidentally knocked it over while in the dock yesterday. Scuffed up the joycon's and top of the switch. Sighs. No screen scratches though. Not that it has gotten its first knick I am not as worried now. Plus I will end up getting the revision Switch down the road.
