Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

Gotta say the hori standard screen protector was the easiest most perfect application of a screen protector I've ever had. No bubbles or dust. Algned perfectly.

I really love how they give directions and how it's set up.

That part at 3:30 is someone else's video (assuming the same for the one at 10 min in). It was posted way earlier in this thread.

A lot of people were saying it has to do more with some docks being bent inwards than anything.

There could be a number of factors where the screen could get scratched but it's not the kind of thing people would go to test various methods and do proper reports on unless they were getting paid for it. (I gave suggestions on how to test things here but unfortunately it's been a rather informal process with things still left unanswered.)

Basically, that guy's Switch was fine but we don't know if a dock being angled inward/bent can cause the screen to get scratched and, we don't know if dust particles on the dock or screen can cause the screen to scratch when sliding the Switch down the dock due to friction.

It's possible there could have been​ some kind of particles in the dock already before you unboxed your Switch because I've seen from some photos posted in here that the docks aren't clean. This could be what caused my screen to get scratched although it was a mark on the bezel and I was able to get it removed.

I am not using a screen protector, I haven't got any new scratches on my Switch from docking/undocking. I've blown away any dust buildup but haven't bothered to do a proper cleaning for some dust particles I can't rub off.

Maybe the bent docks could be a factor, I'm just still waiting for some better findings.

People taking a single instance of it NOT scratching as an indication this isn't a problem are being stupid.

We don't know why the dock is scratching some people's screens. We don't know if it's because of bent docks, dust particles, or singe weird combination of angle/pressure. What we do know is that the dock's materials can, under unknown conditions, scratch the bezel/screen, which is horrible design.

This probably won't happen to everyone, especially not immediately. But until we know what is causing it, dismissing it as an issue of improper handling is giving Nintendo a pass on something that should never have been an issue for anyone regardless of how gentle they are in docking their console. There's a reason other docks on the market don't have faceplates with glass rails.

Any time you have something rubbing up on something, its going to get scratched, its just kind of how reality works.

Things wear down. I don't understand how this is a hard concept to understand. The inside of the dock is two fucking plastic rails that the screen slides against. The rubber at the bottom is to keep it from wobbling, not to keep it from scratching.

People whos docks have a narrow gap will have more of a problem.

The without care bit of your post kills me. You automatically assume people are smashing their consoles into the dock with no evidence because you don't want to believe your favorite company made a mistake.

And we don't know if only bent docks have this issue. Given that Nintendo designed a dock with guide rails made of a material that can scratch the screen, you're giving them too much credit.
 
So i just noticed a scratch on the right part of the bezel. It's like half cm and only visible with direct light on it, but it's there. What pisses me off is that i've been extremely careful with every docking/undocking, i didn't even do it that often while waiting for my screen protector, but it's taking fucking ages to arrive. My dock doesn't even look bent and i clean it every time i take the console off so i really don't understand how in the fuck did this even happen.

It goes both ways. If it's a fallacy to turn a mountain into a molehill, it's just as much a fallacy to turn a molehill into a mountain.
 
Think Nintendo should think inverse , not fixing the cradle but make those areas that scratch with use removable so once you think they look bad you just remove them and put new ones , it would be cheaper than designing a new dock and costumer could get a cheap pack with 3-5 pairs.

I know right now change the design of the screen is not an option but maybe later since basically the area that scratchs is not part for the gameplay visual area.

Looks like im not the only one for it taking a while.

Dont know why it takes 1-2 weeks to arrive after its shipped.
 
Ordered an orzly screen protector on Tuesday and it turned up today (was via eBay). I will put on tonight / tomorrow and report back.

And because it was bought up earlier on the back of the box it states that the back of the film is covered with a strong silicon adhesive.

I've never made the claim that every screen will scratch, though I'm not dismissing the possibility outright like some diehards seem to be. We do know that some screens are scratching. We also know that the dock is capable of scratching the screen. That is a shitty combination, and regardless of how widespread the problem is it's a design flaw. You're accusing me of something I am not doing.

Give it time to develop. The fact that Switch's screen is plastic means it will be very prone to scratching, even from other plastic. Either way, screen protector is absolutely essential with this system.
 
Well, great.

I've been docking my Switch extremely carefully and so I have no scratches at all.

With that said, my dock is considerably more bent up than most of the examples I've seen in this thread. It's so bad on mine that I'm downright shocked I didn't notice until a couple of minutes ago. That shit will scratch my Switch one day. I'm not happy about this shit, but hopefully I'll just call Nintendo and have it replaced.

i thought this was kind of overblown, my dick looked straight and i had no trouble taking it in and out of the thing.. but there's two hairline scratches on the lower left side of the bezel. i put a screen protector on it, so i guess that's ok.

i wouldn't notice it unless i knew to look for it, but if it's there already it's only going to get worse.

His channel is quite good for lots of random videos to be fair. He's good with telephone wiring - that's how I found him originally.

He's also got videos on removing stuck joycons easily and he tests an Ethernet adaptor on the Switch too.
 
At this point with screen printing, we just need someone to design a new printable dock.

So we can just take out the electronics and put it inside the new version and move on with our lives.

I received the Skimoni antiglare matte screen protector that came in after the original one got trashed through shipping.

Is this okay to use for this docking issue?

Yeah it's taking ages for some reason, i ordered it last week as soon as i read about this issue. All this because poor Ninty couldn't be bothered with gorilla glass lol

yo dude... i had the same problem with cat hair and i just took the protector off and used the provided sticker on the adhesive side of the protector and it fished out the cathair perfectly... i was so happy about it

Welp, there's a little micro-scratch, only visible by have a big light on it, like 2mm that got on the bottom of the bezel, right side. :(

My Orzly tempered glass comes in in like 3 weeks, that's a big downer as I did a lot to keep it perfect this week.

I think I'll be selling it, they seems to go out for crazy prices around here so if I sell mine it'll go out in an instant and I won't lose a cent of my investment. I'll buy another one in like a month or two when there will be restocks and when I'll finally have my fucking tempered glass and case. Who knows, the dock will maybe be less bad of an issue by then.

I had to cancel my fabric PDP case as well because it still wasn't shipped and has a lot of bad reviews on Amazon. So I'll have to check for a carrying case as well.

I don't think this is a good idea. Who knows if restocks will mean it's suddenly widely available or not, you could be waiting months after getting your protector.

Plus you know there's no cloud saves, right? You know it doesn't save to the cartridge either? You'll lose anything you've done on the system so far.
 
Just want to report that I have no screen protector, a very slightly bent dock and no scratches yet.

Also want to note that I am careful each and every time I insert or remove the system. A few grounds rules I have are:

-Never attach or remove joy-cons while system is docked

-Always push the system a bit into the back of the dock when inserting and removing

-Never leave my system docked when my son (toddler aged) is unattended in the living room

I can't see how I would get a scratch at this point, as long as I remain careful.

Yeah, I'm aware that I'll lose my Zelda save, but I also have it on Wii U so I could just start a new game on this version.

I bought Snipperclips and played quite a bit with my GF, but I'll be able to have it back once I buy a new one.

I don't think it'll be sold out for months though, I could be wrong though.

You might be able to lift up the screen protector by one of the corners and put one of the stickers they included under there to get it out with. Just be careful with the corner and don't put too much pressure. And try not to use your fingernail because mine actually ended up cutting me a tiny bit.

... On second thought, maybe just wait for the new ones to show up.

But yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. At least we know how to put them on now...

Just put on my orzly protector. Used the hinge method and I think it went flawlessly. As someone suggested in here I did it in my kitchen under the cooker extractor fan set on full blast and did a quick wipe before "shutting the door" created by the hinges of the protector. No bubbles or dirt / hair that I can see so far. Going to leave it over night and play with it tomorrow but so far I'm happy.
 
Somehow my Switch now has a fucking chip in the top black part of the screen. I almost never take it out of the dock. What the fuck?

Yeah... they really should pack in 3, so you get that first one or two as a trial run.

Its a simple process, but so easy to fuck up and when you do.... welp 10 bucks and a week to try again... sigh.
 
I'll get a shot of the screen in a little bit. This is kinda ridiculous. Not like I can take it back... for like a ton of reasons.

Can't even back up my saves. Lovely. So now I have a bum joycon and a apparently weak screen.

EDIT: Got a picture. This is on the upper frame. I know exactly how it happened. Pulled it out from the right side, once. Like on an angle so it kinda slid into the dock.

This thing has not fucking left my desk outside of today, and I've probably taken it out of the dock less than ten times.

Thanks! seems I lucked out then with no joycon issues (*edit* tried the penny test and yup its warped). Still I'm being extra careful. Got my AMFilm glass protectors in the mail finally.

The Adhesive get less effective the more its pealed off that said you can get dust/hairs/fuzz off the adhesive side with shipping tape. put the sticky side of the protector down on the adhesive side of the protector and the pull the two apart, it will take the particles but not the other adhesive.
