Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

Between my brother and I we have two docks in good shape. Anecdotal evidence =y

I'm just saying compared to the joycon syncing I don't really see it as widespread on the internet. Thread title implies that ALL/great amount of switches will get scratched by docks. But eh =y
And maybe they will. That's the beauty (horror?) of the design of the dock.

Add my brother to the scratched screen (protector) club.

Cool I just tried to put on my tempered glass screen protectors (that's right, I tried both in my two pack). The first one had multiple bubbles under the screen that wouldn't come out. The second one has like fuzz underneath the screen protector that was noticeable. Took them both off. Fuck man.

You did the wipe downs I assume?

I feel you, it sucks when these things go badly. Specially as its not easy to get a replacement and thats money down the drain. Though if you contact these folks on amazon they seem really great bout getting you another item to try again.

So how bent is bent? Mine isn't 100% straight but it's not by much.

So Orzly uploaded a video of their tempered glass protectors to YouTube, they run it through a few tests and demonstrate the hinge method of installing it.

https://youtu.be/1U3byIjQ5tQ

Ozrly advertise 94% light penetration though. That's 5.99% less percentage units than amFilm! :P (I'll get whatever one is cheapest of amFilm, ozrly and Anker).

Next time, bubbles you can't run away most likely means you have a dust / dirt particle trapped underneath. Use a piece of tape, lift the protector up by the closest corner and slid another piece of tape underneath to stick / remove the particle. Continue to doing that for other particles until you see no more bubbles.

I already ordered another set and I will try again in a different location with hopefully less dust/particles in the air. If it doesn't work this time I'm done though.

Run your shower and get your bathroom steamy. Kill the water, bring in your Switch and then wipe the screen with the wet alcohol wipe then the dry. Apply either with the hinge or the tabs, quickly remove bubbles with included thick cardboard square. Boom. Got mine on perfectly first go, and I usually suck at screen guards.

Goes for when the next set comes. I actually tried this bug the bathroom wouldn't get steamy for whatever reason. Next time I'll make sure it does.

Sorry mate. :(

Since I work in an environment where we have a electronic service center, I'll make sure to go in the 'white room' and install mine on the desk with a huge vacuum on top. Should be dust proof enough. :lol

Thanks! I will try my best to make sure make things as dust free as possible when I get the new ones. I have 2 more shots to get it right lol

One thing that helped me, was cleaning it super good before starting anything. Then you take it into the steamy room, do the hinge, then clean it good, then go with the wet wipe, then the dry wipe and make super sure nothing is there and then take of the film and slam that hinge before anything can sneak in.

I finally opened my dock and holy shit it's terrible. I have a bonus Switch that is going back to Walmart. I'll peek in there to see if the dock isn't all bent.

Just wanted to say my dock is ever so slightly angled inwards but I put electrical tape on it on day one. I've been putting the Switch in and out of the dock at least once a day with no screen protector and there aren't any scratches. The electrical tape seems to work great and it looks as if nothing extra is on the dock.

I think this is a solid plan. I'll use it next time.

Can' get it right on a picture with my phone and now the Switch is in the box, I only have this pic

You constantly see this blue mark with dark areas of games but actually it's bigger when you turn on the screen brightness all the way up (not really visible though).

It's really annoying in games even though you could get used ot it. I shouldn't have played for 15 minutes in the subway, I may have put it too quickly in my bag or Something like this, but so much for the "play everywhere"...

Man, that's no good. What the hell.

Mine has a scratch top left :/

Can anyone recommend a screen protector that I can get in the UK reasonably quickly? I have prime and what not.

I got an email from the seller of the Orzly glass screen protectors saying my order should have arrived, so i have an option to either get a refund or another sent out..

Not really feeling optimistic about getting a replacement either.

It's a soft plastic screen, it's gonna get scratched as some point.

So in the end was the scratching issue exaggerated or not?

For the people it happened to it wasn't exaggerated. It's impossible to tell how prevelant it is. It might even be something that, for some, could happen months or years from now.

It did not appear to be a problem for my Switch, but I for a screen protector anyway.

By the way, currently no scratches on the back of the Switch.

So in the end was the scratching issue exaggerated or not?

Difficult to say how 'inevitable' scratches are. However, they seem 'likely,' what with the screen being plastic and having to dock the Switch (and some docks not being straight).

To me, it looks like most scratches are caused by the rails in the dock either having some errant dust on them or by sidewards movement while docking.

I also wonder what's going on with the guy who got blue spots on his display. That would suck badly if the screen's pixels were easy to damage.

No, not in my opinion. The plastic screen is very scratch prone; if not from the dock then it'll likely get scratched during a screen wipe down at some point. You always have to make sure that the cloth you're wiping the screen down with is absolutely dust and dirt free and there aren't any hard particles on the screen itself. Even a tiny, almost invisible to the naked eye, grain of sand or rock is enough to scratch the screen pretty badly during a wipe down. I get why Nintendo used a plastic screen; likely to prevent shattering during a fall and to save money - but it's still such a same that it scratches so easy.

This is one of the first consoles that I felt was designed very well and very poorly at the same time.

Well no.

Their only issue is that they did not include the screen protector in the box.

A solution that cheap to their problem is not "bad design" per say, you have the solidity of plastic with protection of glass.

That they did not include it despite it not costing them a dime is troubling, clearly.

I have scratches on the right side of my screen bezels from sliding in and out :(((((

I stopped using the dock out right now, only play in portable mode.

I think thats useful to emphasise. With a phone you often put a protector on immediately and the screen is protected by the plastic wrap before that. But the switch ships with no plastic covering (juts in a bag) and waiting a long time for a protector means it's likely to have a dirty/dusty screen

Lint free microfiber is your friend. Clean the screen once, then clean it again. After you clean it the second time do it once more to make sure. Look for any obvious specks, then quickly apply the screen protector. I've never had an issue with a tempered glass screen protector.

These puppies are a godsend.

I just put the amfilm and while not perfect, because there still a micro dust with no bubble, I'm happy and it was very easy.
With the film on, I can't see my scratch from before so I'm happy.
The dust trapped under is no more distracting than all the dust who always sit on the screen.

Watching the bubbles fade away slowly is so stressful. The most difficult part will be to wait tomorrow before playing Zelda again.

I somehow got one teeny, teeny hair under my AmFilm screen protector at the very top. ARGH. Wondering if I should even bother trying to fix it because it's bubble free, but that hair is annoying. :(

Sod it, ordered from an eBay seller now instead. Can't be bothered to muck around with the Amazon seller.

It's probably the same seller as the Amazon person just using a different name. Also, was it the eBay seller with no feedback but over 200 of the Orzly sold?

P.S. Mine didn't turn up today either.

I installed mine yesterday. Looks perfect. Doesn't rub against the front rails which was my worry. It does contact the rubber pads at the bottom resulting in minor smudges but they wipe off.

Edit - This is the amFilm tempered glass protector.

White joy cons?

So I have a very slight bend in my dock. I have stuck 2 DVD cases in there which seems to have helped a bit but it is still slightly bent.

I got a shipping label from Nintendo to send it in and they will repair/replace, but I feel like that could take weeks.

I feel like they should really ship a replacement first and then I'll send them the bent one.

I also feel like there isn't really a guarantee the one they send me won't also be slightly bent.

Mine isn't bent enough to make it to tight or scratch the screen, but aesthetically it bothers me lol.

I think I'm going to wait until the very end of when I can send my dock back in (3 weeks) and hopefully they will have plenty of supply by then.
