Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

Those scratches would be on the unit if he didn't apply the screen protector. Shit is less than half a millimeter thick and the same hardness as the screen.

You can't say that for certain when they are manufactured completely differently. I don't know if I'm just lucky or what but I've gone screen protector free and its working out fine so far :)

Mohs scale is pretty damn accurate in determining the hardness of something.

Your lack of problems is not a sign that this isn't an issue.

You can't say that with certainty. I'm in the same boat asthe poster you were replying to myself. In and out of multiple docks over the past couple weeks and not a single scratch after cleaning the screen yesterday.

edit - three different docks, multiple people drunkenly swapping switches, etc. No scratches

I guess if my brother were just a little more careful he wouldn't have scratched his screen protector in the 4 times he's carefully docked his Switch. What a jackass. You guys are right, clearly this isn't a problem, especially because not everyone has this issue. Obviously this isn't a problem until 100% of users have experienced this.

Wow ok. We're saying that screen protectors tend to scratch easier than your device's screen, and without evidence, you can't just claim that your brother's scratched screen protector means your Switch screen itself would be scratched without the protector.

Can of compressed air and a micro fiber clothe has kept my switch from scratching. I have a bent dock as well but used a book to straighten it a little.I take my switch out of the dock constantly and my screen is in perfect condition. There is definitely an issue here with the design of the dock but i feel like every single person that gets a scratch is going to use the dock as an excuse to why it happened.

"Excuse" or legitimate reason?

The fact that you're taking such absurd levels of care with yours might indicate the latter.

I mean when a device is $300 I wouldn't call it absurd levels of care. I think it should be common knowledge to spray your dock and switch screen with compressed air to remove any dirt/sand that could scratch your screen. I'm not going to use a device this expensive in a careless manner.

I think your brother should sell it and its games asap

I'm still trying to send my switch back, I phoned 3 times but the centre shut before I could get through and have now made another 3 calls and been told, we will send you an email with the shipping labels.

Due to throw this thing in the street and be done with it.

I have scratches on my screen protector, but I have no idea if those would have scratched the screen. I'm not convinced that the crap Nintendo screen protector is the same hardness as that screen at all.
I'm replacing my crap Nintendo protector with a tempered glass this weekend.

There are people that DON'T put screen protectors on their screened devices?!

Everything from my phones, to my vita, to my laptop, to my kids' tablets have tempered glass protectors.

I have an old OG iphone 4 that doesn't have a single scratch on the screen/back (due to protectors) that my 4 year old plays with.

I've never used screen protectors because I've never had to. The Switch might be the first device that I use one on, this thread makes the screen sound fragile as fuck.

In 30+ years of using devices with screens, I have never once used a screen protector. And I have never damaged a screen either.

Yes, no protection on my phone or Switch, no scratches either. Some people are careful with their devices.

Got my replacement amFilm today. I actually dropped my first set and they cracked. They were replaced for free and came promptly, so I am happy about that. Installation went perfectly. Going to wait some hours and then FINALLY use my Pro Controller and dock my Switch! Excited!

Yes? I am one of them

I have the cheaper Hori plastic screen protector, but I am now starting to see 1 or 2 scratches on the left side of my switch bezel. Nothing on the right. Hopefully its just on the screen protector. When I was first installing it, I tried taking it off with some tape, but it wouldn't come off as was instructed. Not sure how you are supposed to remove them.

um yeah, Id say its the norm rather than the exception. This is the first device Ive ever put a screen protector on.

I don't get it. I wasn't having dock issues, but I still got a tempered glass, I do it with all of my products. Why take the risk?

After screwing up both screen protectors last week, I finally got it right this time.

I never have, and never had any issues. I'm considering it with switch but I have no desire to dock it and probably wont for a year, so I'm pretty OK with it.

I don't have kids though, I imagine that would make quite a difference. Otherwise I'm anal about, I donno, being careful

To be honest, since tempered glass protectors exist, there's no real reason to not use them. They are cristal clear because...they are made of cristal. It looks exactly the same as not having a screen protector, except, you know, it's protected. Just make sure to do a good application and that's it. My Nexus 5X has a tempered glass protector since day one.

I am 40, and have had probably two dozen devices with screens. Never used a screen protector, never had a scratch. My switch got small scratches from the dock on the first day. Thankfully my local Best Buy let me exchange it, and held a non-picked up preorder to use for the exchange.

It seems pretty high end care for something like that on each entry. It isn't designed to need that...

Jesus, this thread. I hope Nintendo releases a revision in the future with a glass screen, safer dock, or an Apple iPad-esque screen cover because this tablet/dock issue has been the sole thing keeping me from purchasing a Switch.

Well that's a shame because this thread is mainly just people worrying too much and taking the extra steps to ensure no scratches occur. I doubt it's the sole reason you didn't get a switch though. It's not as big of an issue as people here make it seem.

Has anyone on here actually had scratches they were unable to rub off? I'm pretty cavalier with how I shove mine in and out of the dock, and do it multiple times per day. At this point its probably gone in and out of the dock about 50 times and no scratches or marks or anything. And my dock is positioned pretty far into my tv cabinet, I need to reach in and often dont put it in straight, or it drops a bit etc. No scratches.

Yes. Me. Luckily less noticeable after applying a screen protector. Still, not OK situation. Nintendo has to fix

Got my amFilm protectors today. Did everything suggested and still had dust specks. Thankfully I was able to peel it back and get them off with the sticker and reapply.

99% perfect now so I think I'll take it. The only thing now is what looks like one speck of dust but no bubble at all, so it's almost like it's on the outside but it won't wipe away. Pretty minor, though.

My 5 year old has been docking and undocking it pretty much daily with no damage. /shrug

Never bothered with screen protectors on anything. If it gets scratched on the not even viewable part of the screen so what... people worry too much. I usually end up buying the 2nd revision of a good console/handheld anyway.

Man, I've zero scratches whatsoever and haven't done any kind of stretching to my dock. I pull it out and put it back in (heh) every single day because I bring my Switch to work, and have no scratches yet.

Bought some other brand of tempered glass screen from ebay since AmFilm was sold out on Amazon.

Did hinge method in steamy bathroom and it worked first time. It's ever so slightly not the perfect angle and has a tiny bubble in the upper right off the screen area, but I'll take it. If this one peels off, I've still got one more shot. Let the carefree undocking commence!

I usually do, but my fucking tempered glass that I ordered before the Switch launched still hasn't arrived. So I managed to have a little scratch on mine as well. :(

I ordered the amfilm tempered glass Switch screen protectors from Amazon last Thursday, March 9th, and they've already been delivered today, March 17th. Said I wouldn't get them until March 22-24 but they arrived early.

FWIW, they shipped from Warrendale, PA this past Wednesday the 15th and made it all the way to San Francisco, CA. During a big storm.

So maybe worth trying the amfilm instead? Assuming that's not what you ordered already.

I already ordered a Orzly tempered glass on March 2nd.

ETA is March 24th-April 10th. So the wait's far from being over for me. :lol
