Updated the OP with some more links.
I'll also have to update the price list picture since they lowered the 2 big gem packs from 5000 to 3500 and from 2000 to 1500.

[V V G N] Nice job!

So I'm level 24 now and I basically have every god I want. Now I'm trying to figure out who to main. I have played Cupid much more than any other god, but that's because I usually play with my friend and he mains Sobek/Guan Yu, so I couldn't pass up on that combo. I've been trying Anhur out, and he's great — easily the most powerful ranged AD in the right hands. I also really like Agni and Hel. The common denominator between those 3 is that they can either go mid or to a side lane, which is nice to have in solo queue where sometimes you get stuck with a team and nobody wants to mid.

Hel is much more of a mid than a sidelaner.
You might wanna look into Freya - she's an odd god, but the majority of the competitive community seems to see her as a hybrid AP/AD carry.

Yeah she looks pretty fun. Though I am worried by her lack of a dash or jump. My friend bought her yesterday and was getting ganked really hard because he had no escape.

WTF, she has no escape? Uhm... Banish puts people into the air for a few seconds and then there's her really strong ult. Also, her 2 slows and the slows stack on top of that. I don't see how anyone should have trouble getting away with her at all.

Granted, my friend was playing terribly, and he tends to overextend because he's used to playing tanks. By escapes, I meant having the ability to retreat from several enemies who are trying to gank you. Her banish is good, but it requires you to turn around (if you're running away) and aim the shot, which is very risky if you're being chased by the enemy team. I will concede that her ult is a great escape from many other ults (like Odin's), but once it ends you are in big trouble if there's still several enemies around.

Even with her banish, slow, and ult, I have had no problem chasing down low-HP enemy Freyas as Cupid and Agni.

But if you were talking about 1v1 escapes, then yeah, she has plenty of tools there.

Well you shouldn't overextend as Freya, you always gotta be keeping back. She's far too squishy and yeah, she is easy to take out if you play against someone who doesn't know what they're doing.

You guys should really try vamana. My favorite god by far. The dash ability is a get out of jail free card and has saved me more times than I can count. The boomerang ability is equivillant to ra's abilities and vamanas util is like a free uber health potion with the bonus if mega AoD melee hits.

They have very extensive player stats online now.

I have never been one for multiplayer online gaming, never played a MOBA before, but SMITE has me by the balls. By far the best game i have played this year and it is still in beta. Over 300 matches and it is still as fascinating and entertaining as if i just started. The 6 weeks break i took during summer was helping keeping the game fresh too.

My favourite gods are Ao Kuang, Sobek, Ares, Freya, Ra and Arachne. Quite a balanced selection, i have to say. 2 tanks, 2 mages, 2 physicals. I tried Freya with a physical build yesterday and it is nice.

The learning curve is steep, especially if you have never played a MOBA before. My first 50 games i was using auto items and auto skills, because there was so much to keep track while playing.

Oh, and please add SteveSchwindt to the links. He is my favourite live commentator.

+1 for SteveSchwindt. Aside from Drybear, who is my personal favorite, he is the other caster that I regularly watch. His videos feel really authentic because he gets mad all the time, lol. For competitive SMITE, dmbrandon is a good player to watch. He's on one of the top teams and has great knowledge of the game. The downside is that he's a complete prick a lot of the time. He posts on Reddit's r/smite board and can usually be seen putting others down and tooting his own horn. Bleh.

I'm only at 168 games played. :( Damn work and school getting in the way of my SMITE.

And Bamelin I've been wanting to try him out for some time, but there's always been other gods higher on my to-do list. One of my friends mains Vamana and usually goes mid with him and does very well. His ult is awesome for tanking towers, phoenixes, and FG late game.

That's exactly why I will not link his stream in the OP.
croninlol is on his team as well (Jerbie), and he's a cool guy, so I have no problem linking him, but dmbrandon's attitude is something I do not want to support in the slightest, so he will never be in the OP.

That said, I'll look into SteveSchwindt.

I was midlaning yesterday against him with me playing Ao Kuang. Jesus, Vamana is a beast mid. I basically couldnt hurt him enough and he killed my 2 towers, while all i could do is watch. My team didn't respond quick enough to my help calls :(

He would ult and attack the tower, after 3 ults the first mid tower was down and the game went downhill quickly after that.

PSA: One thing that is really important to remember is that you can play as any god in solo practice mode. I always forget about that, and most of the time I've spent Favor on a god I haven't even played them once.

Gunpriest and Bamelin convinced me to buy Vamana, even though I had been saving up Favor to buy Bakasura. I went and tried them both out in solo practice, and I was underwhelmed by Bakasura and pleasantly surprised by Vamana. So far I've been building him full tank, with my core items being Reinforcd Boots, Stone of Gaia, Hide of the Nemean Lion, Magi's Blessing, and Silverfox Girdle. My last item is usually Ankh of the Golem for some lifesteal, or more physical protection with Voidblade or Midgardian Mail. By the late game I am nearly unkillable, because even if they manage to get me low I just pop my 1 and gtfo.

I'd like to experiment with some bruiser builds, but since his ult is all about taking damage I've been sticking to a tank role.

if you build him AD and HP hes a wrecking ball

^ I'll try it out.

So I just went 12-0 with Sun Wukong, and my Ares lane-mate went 10-1. We dominated left lane and killed every ganker who dropped in on us. The catch? Our teammates in right lane bitched at us the entire game, calling us trash and telling us we needed to learn how to play. One of them was 2-6. I was seriously dumbfounded. They couldn't have been joking either, unless they were very dedicated trolls. They even tried to surrender when our team was up 20-8. And even after we won they were raging at us in the post-game lobby. The people on the other team were even more confused than we were when they saw that. I don't usually let ragers and shit talkers get to me, but that was just so weird and uncalled for it still has my head spinning.

Here's the match details: http://account.hirezstudios.com/smitegame/stats.aspx?match=5061853

Kelol and Kellendross were the offenders. Shout out to HERR0 for being a great Ares and a cool guy.

Yup that sounds about right. His ult on towers is deadly

Argh, the absolute worst thing about this game is how much of a commitment it is. I was 5 minutes into a game tonight and my gf called and wanted to video chat. My relationship is more important than a game so of course I left, but it sucks because I lost all my goodwill and I probably got reported by my team. I wish they had a way to replace leavers.

they would come in and be under leveled and no items they would be worked although hirez put out a survey and asked if you'd be interested in a casual mode I'm sure that would be more leaver friendly

Is there a Neogaf lift of in-game names?

BL Gaming has a picture of the new game mode map
qIFcr.jpg

The new mode, called Arena, is a very action-oriented, team death match and takes place on a brand new map with a Colosseum setting.
New Arena Mode

Arena is played 5 versus 5 with minions and side-objectives including buff camps and Gryphon Guardians. But rather than a single end objective, in Arena your team earns points for killing enemy players and minions with the first team to deduct 500 points from their opponents being crowned the winner.
http://www.blgaming.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=315

Looks interesting, should be fun to see which Gods shine in this new mode.

Here's a video of the people at Hi-Rez playing an Arena match.

It looks really fun, but the best thing is that this is the answer to my above complaint, since it's a more casual mode where games only take about 15 minutes. This is great for me. I might end up playing Arena as my primary game mode.

Also, here's the rough preliminary patch notes:

New Gamemode: ARENA

The gladiators have called for help, and the gods have answered. The Arena game mode is a brawling deathmatch where your goal is to defeat enemy players and their minions by reducing their team ticket count to 0. Average game time is around 15 minutes.

New God: LOKI

BEHIND YOU! (PASSIVE)
Loki deals 20% more damage from his basic attacks when hitting enemies from behind.

VANISH
Loki disappears in a puff of smoke for 3s. While invisible, he is immune to slows and moves 50% faster than normal. His next basic attack from invisibility (or for 2s after) applies a bleed to his target, dealing 30/45/60/75/90 (+25% of your physical power) physical damage every .5s for 2s and reveals Loki. Cost - 70/75/80/85/90 mana. Cooldown - 15s.

DECOY
Loki spawns a decoy version of himself that taunts all nearby enemy minions. After 3s, the decoy explodes dealing 90/155/220/285/350 (+80% of your physical power) physical damage to all enemies in the radius. Cost - 60/65/70/75/80 mana. Cooldown - 14s.

AIMED STRIKE
Upon activation, Loki’s next basic attack does an additional 60/100/140/180/220 (+80% of your physical power) physical damage within 5 seconds. The enemy hit is also slowed by 25% for 3 seconds. Cost - 50 mana. Cooldown - 12/11/10/9/8s.

ASSASSINATE
Upon activation, Loki teleports to his ground target location. If an enemy god is within the radius, Loki will backstab that target doing 250/325/400/475/550 (140% of your physical power) physical damage and be stunned for 1s. Cost - 100 mana. Cooldown - 90s.

New Skins:

Loki - Ssslither
Agni - Volcanic

General Features:

The “Normal” gamemode (featuring a three-lane map surrounded by a jungle area with bases on each end) has been renamed “Conquest”.

You now have 10 seconds to sell back the last purchased item at full cost.

All queues now have an informative panel describing the game mode. The general UI for joining matches is planned to get a major overhaul in future patches.

The minotaur now breaks down deployables instead of just passing through them.

Minions now have an upper body hit reaction when they get damaged. Minion hit reactions are being tweaked in general and will likely undergo additional changes in future patches.

Hud

Loki has a special scrolling combat text graphic for a successful backstab.

Gods:

Freya
Valkyrie’s Discretion
This ability now properly removes roots from Freya.

Sobek
Charge Prey
This ability no longer goes through enemy minions.

Ares
Blessed Presence
Is not affected by active item auras (Store Abilities).

Bug Fixes:

Bastet jump back cooldown issue on interrupt is fixed.

Freya - Valkyries's Discretion - Arachne needs to be knocked off when Freya ascends

He Bo and Sobek no longer ignore deployables / obstructions during their ultimates

Happy to see Sobek's charge got a nerf. He is one of the most OP gods in the game.

NOT happy about the changes to Abilities. Giving them passive buffs sounds way overkill.

I'm OK with the changes to the abilities but they are bit too good for the low cost. I would have preferred to see the ability cost 700 and do what it used to, and then have a second rank of that ability that adds the passive for say another 1000-1500g. I will wait until the patch is out to see how they play out.

Ares didn't get buffed he got nerfed. Before, using beads meant you'd take the damage, while using Aegis meant you'd be pulled but not take damage. So whatever they used, one aspect of your ult would be applied.

Now you just have to use Aegis to avoid both damage AND getting pulled, while beads do nothing at all, so it's quite obvious what to use when you hear Ares' ult yell.

Very interested to see how the new abilities affect early game, I am thinking HOTG + Girdle to start with no items will make jungling a different beast. Loki should be fun tomorrow.

So how's everyone liking Arena?

I love it. I've only played one Conquest match in the past 3 days; the rest have been Arena. They last for the perfect amount of time, and everything is so fast paced I love it. Been playing mostly as Odin and Ymir. Ares, Hades, Zeus, and Hel are all monsters in Arena too.

Also:
BUY AEGIS AMULET

Finally got enough Favor to buy Loki. As I mentioned before, I liked playing as a rogue in WoW so I knew I'd like how he plays. He is great at taking down mages and cleaning up low-hp opponents. His burst is just insane; I two-shotted a He Bo earlier today (Aimed Strike and huge auto attack crit from behind). People are calling him OP but I disagree — the balance is that he's really fragile. My friends and I would wait for the enemy Loki to ambush one of us and we'd just turn around and blow him away. He's similar to Bakasura in that he harshly punishes uncoordinated teams.

Here's the build I use for him (and the other AD carries) most of the time:
- Warrior Tabi
- Executioner
- Qin's Blades
- Deathbringer
- Void Blade OR Titan's Bane
- Brawler's Beat Stick

Abilities vary but I usually buy Creeping Curse and Beads/Aegis Amulet/Sprint, depending on the enemy team's makeup.

Yea I like where Loki is at right now. I build him similar except I go:
- Warrior Tabi
- Heartseeker
- Executioner
- Qin's Blades
- Deathbringer
- Void Blade/jotunn's wrath(sp?) or Golden Bow if I want the extra crit/power.

I didn't expect to use his ult as much as I do to escape when he was first revealed but his damage is so bursty without the ult I tend to rarely need it. One cool thing I found out is that you can track an invisible loki with your ult, it will show your the blue dagger icon over his head if you hover on him with your ult.

^ Yeah it's scary when you lose track of him. But as long as you have a teammate near you, don't run away when he attacks. That's exactly what he wants. When I played as Ymir I'd just wait for Loki to ambush my Cupid teammate and I'd freeze him + Heart Bomb + auto attacks = he died. As Ao Kuang I'd wait for him to ambush me and I'd place a tornado on myself and use my 1, and my teammates would finish him off. I build an early Breastplate of Valor on AK so I can usually survive a Loki assault if my teammates respond quickly enough. When I play Loki, I like to counter-assassinate by waiting for the enemy Loki to attack and then attack him right back. He is so squishy I can usually drop him before he drops my teammate.

Are you playing Conquest or Arena? I've found stack items to be much less effective in Arena, hence my build. I haven't played Loki in Conquest yet, but I like the high risk, high reward nature of Heartseeker so I'll probably try your build out.

What blue dagger? The only time I see a dagger is when I attack someone from behind.

Yea I meant in arena. I tend to play it pretty safe with Loki in arena so I'll rush heartseeker and do a lot of hit and run. Once the stacks start rolling, especially early on its really easy to pick off a few kills, and I found that even If I die getting back to 20 stacks is pretty quick with the camps and creep waves so plentiful. If I am doing poorly or getting outplayed I will sell it off and go for something else in its place.

The blue dagger/icon is the one that shows up when you hover your ult circle over someone.
I took a quick screencap from a youtube video.

Hmm, maybe it's because I play on low graphic settings, but I do not get that icon.

If you have high defense opponents, Titan's Bane is one of the absolutely BEST choices for Loki.
Yeah, I was actually using that in place of Void Blade in several games today. Great item.

So Loki got nerfed fixed. Apparently his 2 and 3 were doing true damage. I've definitely noticed the damage reduction; he still hits squishies just as hard, but he can no longer take down tanks like he used to. Oh well.
