hes not that bad hes still a beast in group fights even without his heal his damage and his cc are still great even with fist of the gods nerf
Yeah I rented him a couple times yesterday and he has a nice stun and his ult does a crapload of damage... But every time I used my ult I would get focused and die really fast. His spells are all pretty close range so he is tough to play in Arena.

^ I played him a couple more times and I just wasn't really feeling it. He's definitely a strong god but not my style.

So I've gotten a lot of free Gems by doing surveys on the Hi-Rez website. I learned about it on reddit when I read this thread. I did one but it felt a little sketchy so I checked out the privacy policy on the main survey website (Bigbuck Surveys) and they straight up say that they sell your name, address, email, and phone number to third-party marketing companies. I'm not too cool with that, so here's the way I get around it:

Step 1 - Set up a junk email address or use an old one that you don't care about anymore.

Step 2 - Get a fake name and (U.S.) address on this website:

Step 3 - Write down some basic details about your fake identity: ethnicity, education level, income, etc. This is because you need to be consistent in the surveys or they will disqualify you for posting fake information. I hear it's best to make yourself sound as average as possible (e.g. white college student who plays Xbox and makes like 10 grand a year living in San Francisco).

The best surveys in my opinion are in the SponsorPay tab. Do the surveys that give you 60 gems, as they are pretty much the same formula so you can get into a flow and quickly grind through them. Obviously don't do any of the ones that make you download software or sign up for trials of stuff (the only exception was the Audible.com trial, which I signed up for, downloaded a free audiobook, and then cancelled my membership the next day).

Official Release Announced for March 25, 2014

Hi-Rez Studios, a leading developer of free-to-play online action games, today announced that the 3D MOBA game SMITE will officially launch in Europe and North America on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. In addition, a $100,000 LAN Tournament to celebrate the release will be held the following weekend.

The company also announced their mythology-themed 3D action MOBA game has accrued over 2,500,000 registered players to date through its extended Open Beta phase.

The $100,000 SMITE Launch Tournament will take place on Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30, 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia in front of a live audience. The tournament will include the top four teams in Europe and the top four in North America who will have qualified from the SMITE Weekly Tournament Series beginning on January 4, 2014. The event will also be live-streamed worldwide via twitch.tv/smitegame.

All player progress in SMITE's Open Beta will carry over to the game's general release.
 
Time for a dumb question: Some characters (all characters?) have a meter/bar over their picture at the bottom of the screen.

Sometimes it seems to fill up whenever you move, sometimes when you do damage, sometimes when you get kills, etc.

What the heck is it?

It's part of their passive skill. Not every character has one that needs a meter. Check the passive skill on that particular character to see what it's showing.

edit: could of used some defense on those mages and not just straight defense id go with like a sovereignty or if the enemy team is mostly magic a bulwark of hope also a cool build if you want defense and cdr off the bat is pen mage boots and a breastplate of valor specially for hebo pen boots, breastplate of valor, voidstone, polynomicon, sovereignty(or bulwark), rod of tahuti he dosnt really require high magic damage because of how fast he can get his spells off if you can stay and fight them youll be able to drop them no problem id use the same build for isis as well

Thanks. Since Arena/Domination are quicker, less serious game modes, I usually go full retard and just stack as much damage as I can because it's fun to blow people up. But in the last couple of days I've noticed myself getting matched up against much better players, so as you can see my lazy item builds are not exactly cutting it anymore. I'll follow your advice and build more tanky.

Check out his recent matches and look at his item builds. He's builds tank/attack speed. I really want to try that out.
 
for high end play should always build some sort of tank items mixed in your build other wise youll be nuked down hard 1 or 2 items helps a ton and to know who is doing the most damage on the enemy team and build counter to them
 
Yeah I adjusted my builds and I had a much better few games.

I tried out that Bakasura build I posted above and it worked really well. The HP from Ankh was really nice to have early on and it helped me last until the "late game" (in Arena, so about 15 mins in). After I had my Hastened Fatalis and Qin's Sais I was able to shred people down with Butcher Blades. The Magi's Blessing made me even scarier because that bubble was a big "fuck you" to whoever tried to CC me. I went with Void Blade last but I'm gonna try other items for my 6th slot. Frostbound Hammer might work well since the HP gives me extra power with Ankh. I went 12-1 that game.

Then I built tanky Isis and He Bo and did a lot of work with both of them. Isis is my latest purchase and I really like her. With Breastplate of Valor and Chronos Pendant her stun is on a 4 second cooldown.

I keep having teammates give me shit because I only have 1 mastery level. "GG matchmaking is broken giving us a lvl 1 mastery noob on our team." These whippersnappers. I probably hit level 30 before some of them even stated playing. Back in the good ol' days long before mastery was added into the game.

There is certainly no Meepo counterpart in SMITE. No god is that hard to play. But yeah the assassins are the most difficult, IMO.

Take Thanatos, for example: he does great damage but his spells cost HP and he is already extremely squishy, so if you miss his skillshot you are likely going to die.

I would also advise against:

Loki - Very squishy
Anhur - His stun and ult can be hard to land
Agni - One of the most difficult mages to play well
Aphrodite - She is SMITE's Io
Odin - Incorrect use of your ult can fuck you and your teammates over (kinda like Faceless Void)

*Edit: I should add some suggestions. Gods I think are easy to do OK with:

Ao Kuang - Max his 3 (tornadoes) and use it to easily clear creep waves. Use it in the middle of teamfights to apply a painful DoT to everyone in its radius. Use it to zone. Use it on top of yourself if you get ganked. His 3 is amazing. His other spells are good too, but seriously all you need to do is make good use of his tornadoes and you will make a positive contribution to your team.

Cupid - He was my first main ranged carry and I did very well with him as a beginner. He has a great kit: a nuke, a heal, and a dash. And his ult is a huge AoE mesmerize.

I'd write more but I'm typing this on my phone in bed and it's taking too damn long. I'll edit this post with more info tomorrow when I get on a computer.

For noobs I recommend Ra and Hades. Ra is easy to learn with his relatively straight forward powers, same with Hades. I've been in Jamaica for the last 10 days, had big time smite withdrawals lol

Hilariously, I've seen dudes bitch at people for buying defensive items in arena. They're always the morons that go like 11/12 and run past the minions going into our portal (presumably because they think they're playing Team Deathmatch Quake or something.)

nah man that was only the second one this year. I enjoyed it as I haven't done a beach resort since 2009 ... but overall wife and I think we are going to stick with cruising. I love chilling on the balcony watching the ocean roll by while drinking a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.

The only issue I have when away is not having access to my consoles and PC. The last resort was great though, it had wifi so I got my daily doses of GAF.

Now that I'm back I'm probably going to be splitting my time between Smite and my PS4... I barely got to play with it before going away.
 
^ A good cruise is great, but sadly I tend to get seasick very easily, so I'll probably avoid them in the future. A shame, because the cruise I took to Tahiti was absolutely amazing. I got seasick on steak and lobster night. :( I love a good beach resort though. Traditionally we'd go to Cabo San Lucas but we haven't gone in several years.

New God: Nu Wa - Guardian of Heaven

Elemental Crystals (Passive)
Nu Wa draws upon the power of the five-colored elemental crystals. When she uses an ability, it activates its corresponding crystal for 10s, granting her an additional bonus. When all crystals are active, Nu Wa transforms into her true snake form, refreshing the duration of all crystal bonuses for another 10s.
Earth Crystal Bonus (always active) - +10 HP5

Fog
Nu Wa condenses moisture into fog at her location which follows her at 95% of her movement speed for 8s. She and all allies are stealthed while inside the fog. Attacking breaks the stealth effect. Enemies caught inside the fog cloud are slowly choked for 10/20/30/40/50 (+10% of her magical power) magical damage every second. This ability also activates Nu Wa's Water Crystal, granting her an increased move speed aura.
Water Crystal Bonus - 10/15/20/25/30% Move Speed

Clay Soldiers
Nu Wa conjures clay minions from the earth. These minions have health equal to 200 plus 20% of Nu Wa's maximum health and will push lanes and attempt to attack nearby structures. Using this ability also activates Nu Wa's Earth Crystal, granting her a physical protection aura.

Flame Strike

The damage increases the closer Nu Wa is to the source when cast, up to 1.5x at point blank range. Pillars of Heaven
Nu Wa summons the pillars of heaven to imprison her enemies. Four metal pillars create a square with an electrical field. Enemies who pass through the field take 100/150/200/250/300 (+50% of her magical power) magical damage and are slowed by 35/40/45/50/55% for 3s. This ability also activates Nu Wa's Metal Crystal, granting her basic attacks increased damage.

The Friends list has undergone a major UI overhaul. It is now accessed through a new user interface on the bottom right side of the main menu screens. The Party menu is accessed from the PLAY Screen. Expect future improvements to the Party and Play systems in the future.

The new-user Tutorial has been revamped.

Preliminary support for DirectX 11 with Anti-Aliasing has been added to the SETTINGS menu under the VIDEO tab. Users may discover some visual oddities in this mode. Please report any discoveries. Improvements will be made in future versions.

The background on the God Screen and Home Screen has been modified.

Jump is now enabled on all gods. For this patch, the following jumps were added: Arachne, Artemis, Kali, Loki, Nu Wa, Sobek, Vamana, Vulcan, Xbalanque

Deployables like Ymir’s Wall should no longer collide with player cameras. Instead you will see red or blue overlay meshes for characters hidden behind them.

Fixed an issue with ‘Featured Videos’ not showing on the landing page widget when first loading in.

Changed the wording of store bought actives from ‘Abilities’ to properly say ‘Actives’ on the Scoreboard.

When in a party AND in queue, you will no longer be able to change your Loading Portrait. This is subject to change at a later date.

Added a zoom feature to assisted and directed mode, bound by default to Z for zooming in and C for zooming out.

Using this item makes you invulnerable to damage for 2s, preventing you from attacking but allowing you to move. Crowd control effects will still apply. After the invulnerability fades, you gain a 20% damage reduction buff for 4s. Cooldown - 120s.

only did one game with her she seems like she could be pretty cheap level your 3 all the way at the beginning gives you massive lane clear and as for build i went for

shoes of the magi, demonic grip, polynomicon, focused void stone didnt get to finish the game because we won but i most likely would of finished off with a telkhines ring and a sovereignty (or ethereal staff)
 
I had two games of Assault in a row with her on the enemy team last night, she didn't seem nearly as bad as I expected. Hilarious, actually, because the entire enemy team would go into her fog for "stealth", except when you have five people in a cloud that small it effectively gives you a nice obvious target for AoEs. The clay soldiers don't seem overly scary (and I found out you can eat them with Basakura! Can you eat the cats from Bastet's ult?)

Also, I'm loving the visual tweaks they've been doing lately. The new effect for Thor's Berserker Barrage is awesome. I'll have to try out Alienware Ra. Surprised there's talk of nobody having him though, didn't they give out 8 billion codes for him?

Lol. That's one of the first things I thought of about that ability in anything but Conquest (and maybe Domination). I think everyone's first instinct is to group up in it but it makes for a very good enemy target. The clay soldiers I think are effectively summoned minions so all minion rules should apply to them (in other words I don't think you can eat Bastet's cats lol).

They did give out alot of Alienware Ra codes (I think there was thousands of them maybe around 20k or so) however, that was almost a year ago which is an eternity in game time (players leaving the game). Smite has also grown alot in terms of the fanbase with many players coming into the game long after that contest ended. I rarely seen Alienware Ra anymore and often get comments from other players when I play Ra with that skin.

Alienware Ra is actually one of the rarer skins, with the only other skin rarer I think being the Artemis Convention one.

edit: With the new graphics on Alienware Ra however, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Alienware/Smite release new codes for the skin on a time limited basis.

Yeah, I don't have that Artemis, but I paid $4 on Ebay for this year's Tomato Kali.

My goal next year is to hit up a con where they actually show up, so I can just get the 2014 one myself. Hope it's a good one.

It never takes me more than 3 - 6 minutes or so to get into a match of 5 on 5... and that is at ANY time of the day, be it 3 in the afternoon, or 4 in the morning.

If I were to guess, I'd say the population is very high.

Also I voted for Soviet Athena. Athena is my go to god, and my absolute favorite to play. A shame she almost always gets banned from competitive ranked matches.

Oh man all those are awesome with the kind of exception of Apollo's. I like the direction but it needs a little more character to it. I think I was just expecting more than him in a suit with guns when they were teasing how bad ass it was.

I went ahead and voted for Sci Fi Anubis mostly because I'm not a huge fan of any of his current skins and also because of my nostalgia for Stargate lol. I'd probably buy any of them though.
 
Played a few matches last night. Nu Wa isn't that scary. Her ult is kind of underwhelming. She's fun to play with/against though. Had a really good one on my team.

What do you guys think about Hastened Fatalis on hunter gods like Artemis? I've been testing it out and the passive is awesome but it gives no power or penetration so it's a tough call between it and Executioner/Asi.

Are there any population numbers for smite? I'm having a tough time tracking some down, just wondering how active it is relative to other stuff.

I'm excited to see the Kali changes.

In regards to the Ao changes:

We are working on getting all the cast time at .5 seconds or lower, and testing it on Ao. This is mostly QoL so the gods don't feel laggy. (never feels good to press an ability after another and nothing happens because of a backend cast delay).

Apparently the way they are doing this stuff isn't going to impact stuff like the time between button press and first tick of damage, so these aren't going to be buffs. That's the gist I get, at least.
 
Im surprised the Game doesn't seem to get much love on GAF. Its been my go-to PC game for almost a year. Even sunk 110 dollars or so into it mostly for voice packs over the year as well as the core game god unlocks.

Full skill rework and model rework. Lots of changes to the Chinese Pantheon lately due to the contract with Tencent. They're also experimenting with lowering the delay after casts (nothing to do with cooldowns) on gods and using Ao Kuang as an initial test god for it. Vulcan is also getting a new ultimate.
 
I usually hate playing tanks in solo queue, but I had a lot of fun in a couple games as Odin yesterday. I built Vanguard, Tabi, Ankh of Golem, Frostbound Hammer, Shield of Regrowth, and Voidblade. This way I am quite tanky and capable of being the team's front line fighter, while having the auto attack slow utility of the Hammer, and doing ok damage. The Shield of Regrowth is awesome since he already has beastly HP regen, but I'm wondering if Bulwark of Hope might be better on him, especially since I have Ankh. I need some sort of magic protection because by the later half of the game I start getting burst down by the mages.

most importantly: will she get skankier?

If Hel and Nu Wa are any indication, yes. I'm guessing nipple tassels and a g string. 600 gem skin for topless stripper Kali.

God Re-make: Kali, The Goddess of Destruction

Marked for Death (PASSIVE)
A random enemy god is selected as Kali's Death Mark. Kali gains a physical penetration bonus against that god, and if she lands the killing blow, she heals for 80% of her maximum health and receives a +25% gold bonus. A new Death Mark is selected any time her current target dies, or if Kali dies, it is set to whoever last hit her.

Nimble Strike
Kali leaps forward, damaging enemies in the target area for 70/120/170/220/270 +80% of her physical power, and healing herself for 20% of the missing health from the most damaged target she hit. Cost - 70. Cooldown - 12s.

Lash
Kali throws 3 blades that converge upon the target location. Each blade deals 30/40/50/60/70 damage +20% of her physical power. A hit will apply a 3s bleed effect of 5/10/15/20/25 +5% of her physical power every 0.5s. This bleed does not stack. Kali gains 5/10/15/20/25 basic attack lifesteal against targets affected by this bleed. Cost - 60/65/70/75/80. Cooldown - 15/14/13/12/11s.

Incense
Kali hurls her incense at her feet, exploding it. Enemies hit are stunned, while Kali gains a 10/20/30/40/50 physical power bonus for 3/3.5/4/4.5/5s. Cost - 70. Cooldown - 18s.

Destruction
Kali becomes an unstoppable force of destruction, creating a damage aura around her of 20/25/30/35/40 +5% of her physical power every 0.5s. During this time, she can be reduced to 1 health, but cannot die. She is immune to knockup, slow effects and protected from root, but still vulnerable to stuns. Cost - 60/70/80/90/100. Cooldown - 90s.

General
The Play Screen has undergone a significant UI overhaul. This includes significant changes to how parties are formed. NOTE: These changes represent only the first phase of modifications to the PLAY screen. Further changes are expected in future releases. User feedback is appreciated.

The Friends list has undergone some improvements and bug fixes:

A “Recently Played” area has been added to the friends list. This shows people that you recently played with, making it easier to add them as a friend, etc.

Fixed a bug in which the friends list UI would reset if a friend came online while you were browsing your friend list.

Several other minor usability improvements.

A bug has been fixed in the profanity filter.

Fixed a crash condition on return to lobby.

Adjusted her proportions slightly on the default character card
Fixed a bug in which Nu Wa’s snake form would not display correctly.
Base Attack Speed gained per level increased from 0.95% to 1.7%.

Fog
Fixed an issue where Fog wouldn’t apply on-hit ability effects like Gem of Isolation and magical lifesteal

Ultimate
Limited the number of hits per second (sorry, shake and bake fans). The fastest rate new damage can occur with consecutive rapid touches is now 0.5s.

Sun Wukong
The Magic Cudgel
Mana cost now scales with level. Now costs 50/60/70/80/90 instead of 50 flat for all ranks.

Master’s Will
Reduced knock up strength slightly. Approx 1.25 > .75 seconds of knock up.
