SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

Can someone make a cool box art for Tetris Battle Gaiden?

I would also like a Breath of Fire II one that removes the ugly (but still charming) 90's comic box.

Really kinda frustrating that I lost all the original roms that were on this thing. No idea why that happened. Now Secret of Mana(the one I installed) isn't working and I don't know what to do. :(

How does Hakchi work with Retroarch? I installed Retro but I don't even see it after it went through the entire process. I am not sure how to add games.

Edit: I think I figured it out using the custom modules.

Ok, I have my snes mini pretty much ow I wanted it to be, with retroarch for the conflictive games. I'm only missing a few now and I won't bother until I finish some first.

Add --retroarch at the end of the command line of whatever game you want to run through it.

I just disabled the thumbnails so I could add some more games. I have a total of 47 now including the base 21. Seems like the system takes much longer to boot now. Used to take a few seconds and now it takes 10+ seconds. The background music will start playing before the screen shows an image. Is that normal?

Nice! My Classic now has The DKC trilogy, All-Stars, Mortal Kombat 2, TMNT, and loads more games. I found out the hard way that X-Men vs Street Fighter doesn't work on it though.

It's a side effect of removing the thumbnails. Hope that it's eventually improved. I ended up resizing all my thumbnails.

I suppose you could use the fba retroarch core for the arcade version.

Also, is it normal for some games to be louder than others? I tried Shin Megami Tensei, and the volume was so loud my speakers were crackling.

Is there a way to adjust that?

Can anyone help me out on this? Apparently Yoshi's Island and Star Fox 2 aren't working either. Just using the default kernel. Didn't install Retroarch.

Sweet! My wife is happy. I have the Genesis version of Lion King which is her favorite game. I had it running through steam link but this is much easier for her to utilize. She has no complaints of input lag. Seems fluid.

There's a volume bit in the command in hakchi, it's always set to 100, but some games need to be lower.

Can we get a collection of all the custom borders people have made so far?

And are they easy enough to apply to the Classic?

After you made the first preparations mentioned in the OP, adding further backgrounds is easy, although kinda tedious. You have to create 5 images with different resolutions and names (to save space). After that you just upload the folder to the ftp server. As for now, there is no click-and-forget method yet.

We probably should make a collection.

As someone who can't wait to hack this to put all the beat em ups on it, this has me terrified. Someone please help this poster, if only to make me feel good about the process. If there's a way to mess this up, then I certainly will.

Are those game-specific frames or do you have to manually change frames for each game?

You currently have to change for each game, but there's a command argument I have been trying to investigate that is supposed to change frame automatically on game load. Currently can't get it to work.

Dumb question but how can I tell what version of hitachi you have? Mine says 2.2 but I suspect there’s is more and I can’t seem to find it.

I just downloaded what I thought was the latest
Version a few minutes ago. It worked but felt warm while testing... of course I could be paranoid from having it hooked to my pc so long and stuff.?.!???

Flash the original kernel back, then start the process from from scratch again.

I actually meant a thread specifically for the piece of artwork you restored! I mean, people make threads for the silliest reasons (and that's fine), I think all the work you took on that is worthy of being seen by people without the Mini-SNES.

Ah! Uh... I'm not a frequent thread creator, but I'll keep it in mind since you mentioned it. I actually plan on giving the restoration a second pass, I really want to see if I can restore the bottom bit. I also want to do some more research, since I'm really not too sure if my colour saturation is right, it should be but it just looks different from his other work so perhaps some scans I dismissed weren't as faded as I thought. So I should do that first. And before that I plan on creating a whole lot more SNES box art for myself, I still haven't found a Shin Megami Tensei 1 or 2 box to my liking because I'm really picky, and I want to tackle Dragon Quest III and VI since I did the other numbered DQ releases. ^^'

Perhaps I could frame it as a Hiro Isono appreciation thread, since I feel like his work doesn't quite get the attention it deserves. Or I could make some standard "what's your favourite artwork from classic games" thread, that'd be fun too.

Do you have to reinstall drivers to install the retroarch mod?

After testing out the games I added before I decided I might as well install Retroarch so I could play some of the incompatible ones. However on dragging and dropping it's asking me to do the reset/power off thing and install a driver again (I have the SNES Mini plugged in already).

Edit: Nvm, ignore me. On doing the reset/power thing it went through without reinstalling drivers.

I haven't noticed it yet. I only have 35 or so games setup though.
I only added Chrono Trigger to test it. Went ahead and reverted so I could time it. It does take longer. Unmodded, it's about 7 seconds to the menu. With one extra game added, it takes 13. Not an eternity, certainly, but enough that it's noticeable.

I am working on something. Anyone who is a Breath of Fire fan will appreciate it. Look forward to it.

You currently have to change for each game, but there's a command argument I have been trying to investigate that is supposed to change frame automatically on game load. Currently can't get it to work.

The launch script overrides the frame selection the same way it overrides the filter selection. Since the script always sets a frame, any frame you select will be overridden by the selection made in the UI.

Oh but we can fix that right?

It's fixable, but I'm not very familiar with the script syntax and whatnot, so it would take me some time to work out how to do it. A simple way would be to just remove the part of the script that sets the frame, but then you'd get nothing for any game where you haven't manually set one.

I was literally just about to test that, heh. Removed:
Code:
  --decorative-frame-path) options="$options --use-decorative-frame $2 $(decorative_options $2)"; shift ;;

So let's see how it plays.

Trying this now. I really hope this works.

Edit: Yay! It's back to the normal original stuff! Now to try and add everything back and start all over from scratch.
Okay. I'm confused as hell, and this is really frustrating. When I flash the original kernel, it removes all the original games that were on here, and when I try and add them back using roms I downloaded, not all of them seem to work right. Is there a way to JUST add games and not have the entire set of roms on the system removed?

Edit: I think I'm an idiot and I didn't click the "Original Games" tab. *facepalm*
