SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

Recommended FTP client? Was using FileZilla but didn’t see a method to copy files one by one so doing the game folders was a pain as wouldn’t copy all the files over as one would typically fail and not knowing what is what assume needed everything every time.

Any suggestions?

Enter filezilla options, set to transfer only 1 file. Success.

After you transfer everything, it's good to copy everything again and tell it to 'overwrite if file is a different size', that will redownload the file if by any chance the file copied incorrectly.

Download another copy of hakchi2 and use that to hack the NES Classic. I don't think you can do two consoles with one hakchi installation.
I hacked the SNES mini and went back and played with my original NES Mini, to update and change games with the same Hakchi version. Haven’t noticed any errors yet after hours of playing.

So .. I know that the Hex edit / IPS patch for Terranigma etc makes them work on the snes mini where previously they wouldn't .. but my question is, does anyone know what the hex edit actually does? Why does changing this one byte enable the game to work...?
I tried looking on the reddit and the original French forum where the patch was originally mentioned but nobody says what it actually patches?

I wondered the same thing. I appreciate that it works, but I'd love to know what it's doing.

Here's some US artwork for Nightmare Busters. FYI, just apply the LoROM to NTSC patch and the game will run centered on screen.

Playing Genesis games with an SNES controller just feels wrong. Aside from the Hori controller, does anyone know of a wireless pad I can use to bring back that old 6 button Genesis feeling?

I'd like you hear more of people hands on exp with the hori pad, it seems so mixed everywhere i turn...anyone here have a good hands on with it?

Anyone got a good guide for RetroArch? I got it installed and it will load with games that don't run well with the default emulator but I can't get the App itself to find roms for other consoles.

You've got a couple of options. Both require an adapter to be bought. Mayflash is the brand I'm most familiar with.

MD to PC USB, plugged into Switch dock.
MD to Wii Classic Controller, plugged into Wii remote.

Check out youtube/ebay/amazon.

I'd be inclined to go with the wired approach so I could also use it on a PC.

I already have a Mayflash adapter for Saturn controllers. Looks like I'll be giving this a shot when I get home tonight.

Did you also install the emulators for the other consoles?

I decided to uninstall everything and reflash because of a shader slowdown problem in retroarch not going away, so now everything works again except the extra space mod not giving me the extra space again, I use to get around 260 MB total with the mod, it’s giving me only 226 MB total. Anyone have an idea what I should try or what going on ?

Extra space doesn't really give you extra space. It just limits the save states to 50 megs.

If you are "losing" space, it's because of save states. Open the save state manager in hakchi and delete rogue save states. Also, boxes/frames occupy some of that space you lost. Use PNGauntlet to reduce the size of all the images. Just drag and drop the hakchi folder in PNGauntlet and the process will be done automatically. Depending on how many images you have, you could reduce the lost space from 2 to 10 megs.

Gotta say thanks again for the write up, and for the custom backgrounds. Added a bunch to pre-load with games. It's great!

How to get Chrono Trigger, Romancing Saga 3, Secret of Evermore and Robotrek to work? Did the patch (if applicable) and 3rd party emulator install already.

Chrono Trigger and Secret of Evermore work fine in the stock emulator, so if they aren't working then you either have a problem with your ROM or have applied a patch that stops them working.

Hi all!
Just thought I'd send a shout-out to anyone who would like some high-quality box-art of the PAL Super Nintendo games, which I edited in Photoshop and put up on my blog. If there are any others that I don't have that you'd like, let me know and I can probably whip one up.

These are excellent, thanks for sharing.

I couldn’t get my patched Smash Tennis working well enough.

You're most welcome! I put Smash Tennis on, then removed it. I could mostly deal with the messed-up menus, but the game just runs way too fast and I found it almost unplayable. I wonder if that's the speed the Japanese original ran at?

Read the OP.

Very helpful, thanks. I figured it out on my own earlier. What the OP doesn't explain is that the ips file needs to be patched to the regular rom, which needs to be header-less (another step). This might be common knowledge among people who are familiar with roms, but it isn't for people who aren't.

Headered ROMs really are obnoxious.

OK, plopped some more games on there, two issues:

1) I've heard people saying Secret of Evermore does and does not work. The ROM I made just off my own cart works in as much as it gets to the flamey Squaresoft startup screen, but then it locks on a black screen after. Any help?

2) This isn't SNES Classic related exactly, but I want to apply the translation patch to BSSM Another Story and the tools for the patch are all bundled together and they all date back to the stone age. Couldn't get anything to take. Does anyone know of a 21st-century IPS file I can use to patch my ROM?

It definitely works, I've played a large portion of it via Canoe at this point. Is yours a US cart?

I just use ZSNES and ZNES for my super and normal
mame for my Sega and over 9678 Classic arcade games from Pac-man to Capcom vs SNK 2, SNK arcade games, soo many different games we played back in the day.
