So, after the Redfall news. Is starfield most definitely only 30fps at this point?

That's Bethesda for you, outside a few competent studios like ID and Tango their output is messy, it's unlikely that Microsoft would improve things further at this 1gen exclusive titles that are being produced way before the acquisition.
As for the 30fps point. I think it's fair to expect the games to have graphics and performance modes. Except for games that are CPU bound, in the GPU It's pretty straight forward to have the game running at 60fps at lower resolution and sometimes presets. In games where the CPU is the bottleneck, it's fair to expect better simulation, physics and A.I. something that Starfield and Redfall fail to provide. They look last gen in terms of visuals and feature set, therefore the complaints.

Did he really said that?
No, he said he prefer 60fps for certain games, like racing, while he think 30fps works great for their games and like the higher fidelity and being able to pick up and look at all objects etc.
He's not wrong if that last bit would need to be removed to get 60fps, the interactivity is a big deal in The Elder Scrolls at least, should be in Starfield too.

That was a mistake. Tom was seeking clarification and it was meant to be a DM and should not to be weaponised to catch Xbox Division out. Please ignore.

The socks are in the mail Tom 👍😉
No one put a gun to his head and forced him to write that, you dont have to defend a multi billion dollar corporation. No one is forcing you either but here you are

These next-gen consoles are already becoming 30fps potato boxes. I guess it's the natural evolution of consoles.

it's pretty bad. like, if they wanted to drop some utterly gorgeous, blow-my-mind graphical experience @ native 4K and say "30 fps only on this mode" i'd say you know what -- ok, this looks bonkers.

but that's not what we're getting. we're getting shit that I wouldn't accept running at 30 fps on a PS4 Pro, let alone PS5/XSX.

from a technical standpoint, this has been the most disappointing generation to me by FAR. 2-3 years in, a new console should be coming into it's own with exclusive, next-gen only titles that push technology and offer a really nice experience to the player at equal to or better than a mid-tier PC. instead we're still getting cross-gen titles that for the most part look mid at best and run sub-60 fps with half the graphical "features" (RT, VRR ,etc) still coming months after release.

plus the cost of storage has doubled. this gen sucks.

Pretty sure last year's Starfield reveal was pixel counted to be native 4k 30 fps. they should be able to get a 1440p 60 fps version or drop down to 1080p 60 fps on the xsx worst case scenario like Guardians of the galaxy.

It's a single player game so I dont see them skipping a 60 fps mode for it unless that footage was running on a more powerful PC.

Ridiculous to discuss about the FPS this game will have.

The most important thing will be, that the game is playable and no fucking Bugfest like the other games they released!

Yeah, the 40Fps modes on some PS5 games are the bare minimum.
Otherwise, I really can't play 30Fps games on my OLED.
40 fps is not a good way to play a game. That's an inconsistent frame rate, even though it's higher than 30. A 30fps lock would always be preferable unless you can hit 60 fps locked

I have little faith that Starfield won't ship without either another delay into 2024 OR ship as a buggy mess. Since it's on Gamepass who cares, right?

MS has not earned the benefit of the doubt here.

I admire your faith in MS. I have none, which is great because it makes being pleasantly surprised all that rewarding.

Would I like starfield in 60 fps, Sure but does it need to be, No. Starfield at 30 and a locked 30 will play perfectly fine

I think that Starfield's bigger problems will be running without crashes and having quests without major bugs preventing people from finishing them.

It really won't though. It's an FPS requiring a decent amount of precision. It's not going to feel good to play compared to anything else. They don't have Bungies level of expertise to get aiming to feel responsive at 30fps.

Sure, it'll be playable. That doesn't mean "perfectly fine" by most peopled standards. Go back and play Fallout 4 without VATS if you don't believe me.

Standards dude.

Disagree with that and so do most people who've played games on ps5 that have had a 40 fps mode. Not only does the higher framerate cut down on latency but on an Oled TV it helps mitigate the judder caused by Oleds instant response time.

it's my guess that redfall is 30fps because it's a multiplayer title, and they were unable to get 60fps working on both the series X and series S. starfield will not have this problem as it's single player only. I expect it to have the usual quality mode or performance mode on the series X, and probably some lesser modes on series S. it's a bethesda game, so I would be stunned if they have a 60fps mode on the series S. and I'd expect as others have mentioned the series X to drop to sub 20 on occasion.

I agree but I don't even think it's the fault of the consoles necessarily. I think the standards have fallen among publishers/devs and they increasingly treat the consoles as red headed step children.

They know most console gamers are sheep and fanboys and so they sat to themselves "we can get away with targeting 30 fps there but we can't do that with PC players". Ultimately it's a business decision and they figure they can deal with the little bit of backlash among the hardcore on reddit.

If the "games media" actually had a backbone than maybe this wouldn't happen as often.

It wasn't just this Aron Greenberg tweet though. All of the marketing from MS execs centered on the "speed" of the Series X.

If you think these guys dont constantly try to mislead and exaggerate you are sorely mistaken. It's been this way for years among all the big publishers. It's the default accepted state of things.

How many trailers wind up being fake footage and when the final game releases looking worse, does the games media even bother calling them our?

How many times has a dev tweeted out the settings for their game in the months leading up to launch as "4k/60", yet when the game releases what they ACTUALLY meant was 4k/30 and 1080p/60, for example.

How many times has all the preview footage for a game looked phenomenal but when the game releases we find out that ALL the previews were done on PC yet not a single Youtuber bothered to report that as such and the dev purposely hid the consoles from being previewed.

Dishonesty is RIFE when it comes to console gaming.

I like a lot of Bethesda's games, but no way on earth is it going to hit even 30FPS on consoles. Every cycle, everybody forgets how their open world RPGS perform at launch before extensive patching. Maybe for XBox Series X-2 (Xmen United) Pro² it will hit solid 30+ FPS. I expect 30 while standing still and ~20 during basic traversal, dipping into 15~ for battles with lots of effects.
